  1. Thank goodness hes doing well for my lions (been a fan of the lions since 1991, we did go to the nfc championship that yea only to get throttled by the soon to be supe bowl champions, the Washington Redskins). Suh and vanden bosch have been beasts. I honestly think corey williams and suh are the best DT tandem IN THE LEAGUE. Williams is just as big of a beast as Suh! We got burleson back from injury a few games ago and the lions should end up with about 5 wins. Our lb cop is TERRIBLE and ou secondary is horrible, besides Delmas. Raiola, even though he is a fellow husker, has been horrible for us. He calls the wrong line audibles when he sees a defense blitzing. I know other lions fans are really happy with Suh, he could easily get 12 sacks this year.
  2. I dont think the Missouri fans are understanding what we are exactly complaining about. We are complaining about the AMOUNT of bad calls that have gone against us in Big XII play, not just the missouri game. If you look at all the calls that has happened against Nebraska it is blatantly obvious that the officials are going to call horrible calls on Nebraska the whole year. I dont like conspiracty theories but its obvious beebe nor the big xii exactly like us at this moment in time. I think everyone knows that the big xii or "texas plus 9" will go down the draiin in 5 more years anyway, leaving beebe without a job and the officials probably wont be officiating any other games. If someone messed up your whole world, you are going to feel some resentment towards them and will want to bring them down in any way you can. Missouri fans, look at some of the calls we have endured throughout the big xii thus far. YOu will definately be singing a different tune after knowing all the facts.
  3. Not impossible by nay means. Alabama will beat Auburn, but will lose to eithe mississippi state or lsu. So that will make both of those teams fall unde us. TCU plays Utah next weekend so one of them will drop below us. We need utah to beat tcu(tcus remaining schedule is weak and wont lose another game) then we need notre dame or byu to beat utah. I still feel that nevada or idaho will upset boise state. Oregon still has to play washington, cal, arizona and oregon state. That is a tough schedule folks and i feel that arizona state or oregon state will beat them. Wisconsin will probably stay ahead of us though because they only play michigan, norhwestern, purdue and indiana. Ohio state still plays penn state and iowa so they might lose one of those. We need ou to keep winning so they can be ranked decently when we play them in the big xii championship. But we NEED utah to beat tcu and NEED one of those teams to upset wisconsin and we will be fine.
  4. this is a very AGGRESSIVE defense. That being said, counters work against aggressive defense and misdirections. I would like us to run plenty of them and maybe take away missouri's aggressiveness. I also feel that we need to throw a lot of short patterns this game, i.e. screens, 5 yard curls and slant patterns. This will make them think twice about consistently blitzing.
  5. In my opinion, the most imporant matchup will be nebraska's dline vs missouris oline. I feel like this will show us who wins the game. If the Dline holds their own and gets pressure on gabbert consistently, then nebraska will have about 4 ints. If the dline plays like they have the whole year, then missouri will win by 14.
  6. Hmmm. Exactly opposite of my feelings. I am quietly confident about this game . . . I don't know why. I felt terrible about the UT game . . . and it went BADLY. Maybe me feeling confident about this game (which is rare for me by the way) portends good things? Maybe, maybe im overreacting because i want to beat missouri into the ground. I had 5 reasons last year why we would lose to ttech (on the espn board) and they all ended up happening. Hopefully your confidence and my lackof ccnfidence could equal out and it will be a close nebraska victory!
  7. 1. I have a feeling martinez is going to make A LOT of freshman mistakes this game. MU brings a lot of different blitzes and i have a feeling he will force some throws that will get intercepted and be rattled by the pressure. Texas didnt blitz all that often while missouri does. I dont think he has seen a defense that has blitzed as much as mizou 2. I do not feel that our dline will get enough pressure on gabbert and he will have all day to throw. They do run a lot of 4wr rand 5wrr sets, that being said, I feel like gabbert will break down our d if we have to blitz to create pressure. 3. They are underdogs and most people expect them to lose which eases a lot of pressure off of them to us. I feel like we do not do as well when we are the favorites against a team. 4. Our oline isnt the greatest and i think their dline/blitzing will cause a lot of mental mistakes and missed blocking assignments. Their D has looked pretty fast. 5. We are at home. In conclusion, I hope we beat the living tar out of missouri but i have a bad feeling folks (much like the ttech game last year and the texas game this year). I also feel the most critical aspect to this game will be the play of our dline. If they cant creat pressure by themselves then we are in for a longggg game. GBR!
  8. Why wouldnt gameday come to the nebraska-missouri game this weekend? I looked at the schedule and we are the highest ranked teams that are playing each other this week. Are they not allowed to go to this game since they went to missouri last week or what? I know some of you guys hate gameday, but found it enjoyable a few years ago for the USC game.
  9. Of course, I give Watson credit for calling a good game. Can he continue mixing this up? Granted, OSU'S defense is ranked 92nd in the nation, which is worse than k state. Maybe he should call this gameplan against ALL teams. You didnt see taylor being different in any area than he was last week? Did you see his footwork? Didnt you seem him making better reads? He had a better pocket presence than he did last week. He improved from last week to this week in the fundamentals of the game. He still has some mental lapses and his accuracy is still but that comes with the territory of having a freshman qb. Also, if we called this gameplan against texas, we win by 3 scores. Watson was too afraid to be "multiple" and open up the playbook last week but i think he realized that is what youre going to have to end up doing against good teams whether you have a freshman qb or not.
  10. He was truely "multiple" today. He sometimes passed on first down, gave the defense a lot of different looks, ran from shotgun AND center and mixed it up very well. If we had this gameplan against texas, we would have won that game. Hopefully we keep the Watson we saw today and not the watson from last week.
  11. this is a true multipe offense and mixing it up. Our dline is horrible and we need to learn to wrap up when we tackle. OSU only has 100 yards pasing if you exclude that flea flicker and one of their other big passes.
  12. He mixing up his gameplan and keeping the defense offguard. He is running it under center AND shotgun, he is sometimes throwing in a pass on first down, running different types of runs. i.e. stretch, draws, isos, off tackles. If he called this gameplan last week, we would have beat txas.
  13. last week, we would have won. YOu see, hes running under center AND shotgun and mixing it up well. I like how some people on this board said "we couldnt run a multiple offense like this cuz it takes too long to practice everything" yet watson comes out and does exactly the mixing up that i wanted him to1 Good job Watson, you are calling a good gamplan. A good mix of iso;s, strech plays, rollouts, sometimes passing it on first down and a great job of mixing it up. Hes not just running zone read. Hopefully Watson calls a gamplan like this for the rest of the year!
  14. I think that's a gross simplification of the many different styles different teams might be suited for, depending on their strengths and weaknesses. I wonder, by the way, how good Taylor is from under the center. The fault of a lot of spread college QBs when they project to the next level is, people wonder how they fare under the center, which is much more prevalent in the pro's. Not sure what Taylor's HS offense looked like, but I remember it was a concern with Cody Green when he came in, as his HS offense was very simple and he was just in the shotgun all the time. Execution on the field put us in 3rd and long numerous times. Yes, because it was decided that we were not going to build off of that success in the Holiday Bowl, and instead going to go in a new direction with a running quarterback in Taylor Martinez. This stuff we're seeing now? It's that offense that "Bo wanted", that direction he's been supposedly wanting to go to since he got here. Enjoy it - most of us couldn't wait for those days to return, but I guess they weren't anticipating that it would come with drawbacks. Interesting that suddenly people are saying that an offense where we run the ball 70% of the time, isn't a good thing and that our receivers should be getting more action. You can't put the drops on Watson, but I agree our WRs all could be getting more chances than they have been getting. Take that up with Bo/Tom's vision for this offense. And Gilmore, who is really the guy responsible for WRs. Im starting to wonder if you watched the defensive assignments that texas put on doing the game. The zone read could NOT be executed against the defense they were not running, you CAN NOT pint that on the players..The DE just kept their eyes on the martinze while they had a lb spy the running back. In that case, both options WERE COVERED. But if you put it as "poor execution" im guessing there are no bad coaches in ncaa because you might as well point the blame on the players and never the coaching. If the defense youre playing against is built up to stop your gameplan and you still dont adjust the first half or beginning of the third, then i guess thats the players fault and not the coaches fault for adjusting. I think gilmore should be gone too, but with watson's philosophy he is expected to work with the wr's on blocking. The WR coach cant just do whatever he wants with the wr's, he gets instructions from upstairs i.e., the offensive coordinator or whoever is in charge of the offense at that school. WATSON'S scheme wants the wrs to work on blocking more instead of working on their hands, which could be PART of the problem for the drops. You cant just blame the wrs, you have to blame the wrs, but also gimore and watson for not getting them prepared to catch the dang ball! But i guess Callahan was a good OC, but his players "didnt execute?" Callahan never adjusted signficantly neither yet everyone blamed him for not adjusting and blamed him for calling the style that didnt work against that specific D and not changing it up AT ALL. Why does watson get a pass when he can not adjust to good defenses very well? As this post has summed up, you can use the "poor execution" excuse to any coach and never blame bad coaching....Pretty sad when Iowa state can put up 28 points on texas..yet we couldnt do that, but they also knew how to stop our offense and we didnt exactly adjust.
  15. OSU's defense is NOT good, we should be able to move the ball on them fairly easily. We will give up some big runs on defense but not very many big passing plays. I expect us to give some safety help against blackmon Nebraska wins 34-17
  16. Beginning of game it was pretty much all zone reads with t-mart. The play calling did change a bit when lee came into the game, but if i remember correctly, the first two plays were zone read then it dramatically changed. I think one of the plays was like a counter from shotgun it seemed. The defense also played differently when lee came into the game, they werent pressing up for the run so much. Im pretty sure Lee is the most accurate passer on the team, so Watson just wanted to air it out at that time. That was a good idea, but itwas a little too late to change things up. I dont understand why we didnt try to soften the d up in the first half or beginning of third quarter.
  17. Watson had a good gameplan against arizona last year, in fact, it was an amazing gameplan and well balanced. I havent seen that this year at all. Sure, the zone read can work to perfection, but you have to have the athletes to run it well against great defenses. TExas has a great defense which as more speed and athleticism. We are not even in the same ballpark when it comes to comparing out athleticism to their athleticism. The zone read takes two seconds to develop and it depends on the decision making of the qb. People fail to understand that no matter what read taylor made, it was still going to be blown up in the backfield or for a minimal gain. If you payed attention to all the details, you could see that they cleary had the rb and qb contained. Even if T=mart handed it off, they still would have a defender their. When a defense is cheating up to play the run, you throw in a pass, thats common sense 101. I saw maybe ONE pass on first down in the whole first half. Also, we ran I form last year so its not like "learning something new." Of course, he could run is zone read but you could also add in a few runs from i-formation and run counters, iso's and off tackles. Also, watson's playcalling put us in third and long numerous times. If you have heard any nfl coaches, the goal is to get it at 3rd and 4 or less, not 3rd and long. The coach is also in charge of everyone doing their assignments and being mentally focused so they can catch balls. Yes, you have to blame the players, but to a certain extent you have to also blame the coaches. We have had this problem for two years now and hopefully things will get fixed. Also, "any offense" can be a well oiled machine, but if you watch most great coordinators they do watch film and adjust accordingly. They may look at the weakness of the defense and put in some new wrinkles that week in practice. Also, how many teams run NUMEROUS offensive sets? We have mainly been running shotgun but not many sets from under center, but you see alabama, ohio state, oregon, etc not onlyrun NUMEROUS sets to keep the defense offguard. You guys are acting like its impossible to run a few plays from iform or any formation under center for that matter and that we have to "stick with the zone read because thats the watson's bread and butter." Also, watson is keying on the wrs BLOCKING in practice. Since they dont get as many reps, he is PART of the problem they are dropping so much considering they dont focus as much on catching, which can cause drops in actual game situations. Our offense seems to fall apart in big games, when is it time that the offensive coaches take blame for the consisten lackadaisicalness by the offensive players?
  18. not a chance, although I do feel we will win the rest of our games (besides the big 12 championship)
  19. Did anyone watch the ul monroe or ul lafyette gaem (they played one of those team, cant remember which one, i thik i was ULL). Their defense isnt that great by any means, I think we come away with a W in this game, 31-17
  20. Tell me about it, i was jumping around and yelling in joy when CJ caught that catch...then got very angry after they said it was incomplete. Talk about a 360 of emotions
  21. I dont care that hes from the Callahan era. I have no bad feeligns for Callahan, sometimes nfl coaches just dont have "it" at the college level. I just dont like how watson never seems to adjust to what has worked int he past against that team. I did not see one counter, off tackle from under center and that is how ucla and ou ran all over texas. Maybe he can prove me wrong but he hasnt done anything yet to make me think any differently. If im wrong, im wrong, but can you PLEASE tell me what watson has done lately thats been imprssive? The offense seems poorly coached all around and have been for the past two years, in fact 3 years ago our offense got shut down when the defense got adjusted to it. Im waiting to see reasons or examples on how he is such a good offense coordinator..All i see is people saying "you hate watson because hes from the callahan era" I dont see any stats or reasons or how he has adjusted or how he mixes it up..or how hes so unpredictable. I'm not sure what else I could post that I didn't already say above with regard to Watson mixing it up and the various fan reactions I've seen. I don't think that changing up the offense every week is a very good idea, especially when we seem to have trouble executing the offense we've had all season. Sure it seems like a good idea on paper to just add and change things every week to target defensive weaknesses, but it just doesn't work all that well in real life. I haven't watched a ton of game film on Oklahoma or UCLA this year, but my assumption would be that they run those plays already and they didn't just put them in against Texas, although maybe they did. As for examples that he's a "good" offensive coordinator, what would you like to see? Every game that's posted as evidence of how bad he is is a loss (with the exception of OK last year), so I suppose to prove he is "good" one would post games we've won - but that just results in "well, those were bad defenses, so that doesn't prove anything." Didnt we run dives, counters, tackles last year? Why were we so effective against Arizona? We were effective because he mixed it up and ran from both shotgun and under center formations. He mixed it up well so I had hope our offense would do the same this year. But i rarely see runs from under center and i see way too much zone read going on. Why cant you implement some runs under center like we did last year? It seemed like he reverted away from that because his own ego wont allow him to go away from the zone read. He didnt do well in any games except VT last year and the year before and the arizon game. I would like to see him pass it on first down, he didnt do that against texas. I would like to us to run some singleback, i form. Do runs from under center AND shotgun, not just shotgun. We arent balanced, passing 7 times a game (or passing when we are down when we are a lot) and running 50 times a game isnt balance by any means. Balance also means showing different formations from under center to shotgun. We always have mental mistakes on offense and our wrs always drop passes because they focus on blocking more in practice. Shouldnt the poor play of the wr's, oline, and rbs in big games be pegged on the coaching? You also cant just run "zone read" against a defense that is prepared for that one play and all variations of the zone readand you cant execute the zone read when the defense is faster than your offense. Where was the passing on first or second down when they were cheating up? It was blatantly obvious they were playing the run yet we never took a chance on first or second down until we were down by a lot. Also, if people payed attention, martinez didnt make the wrong reads on zone read, no matter what he did the defense would have stopped it. I dont think Watson is a good OC, hopefully he will change but our offens hasnt shown any improvement in the mental aspect, dropping passes, fumbles, etc.
  22. To be fair they got boned hard in week one with the Calvin Johnson call. Week 2 we also got screwed. We were down by 5 points to the packers with like 1:30 remaining, charles woodson P.I.ed calvin johnson twice, but it wasnt called.
  23. 24. Have to say it changes my outlook a little on the direction of the offense we are going in with Taylor. Doesn't sound like we were outschemed by Muschamp; to the contrary, it sounds like we had 'em, we had 'em, and we just couldn't do the job. Against a DC like Muschamp, that is damn impressive. Where are the 35 points coming from? that was one good playcall when burkhead ran a wheel route, ill give him that. Our wrs always drop passes, thats not anything new. A DC like muschamp..oh yes, because UCLA and OU didnt move the ball on them lol. Texas D isnt that good this year, how is that impressive? Oh wait, UCLA has a high powered offense. Did you even watch the defense on the zone read? No matter what decisison taylor would have made, it would still be stuffed in the backfield yet he still ran the damn read play 20 teams when it WASNT working. Did you watch any of the ucla/ou film against them? If thats the case, why not adjust and put in some iform and ace to put in a new "wrinkle", did you see how texas couldnt defend counters or dives? Oh wait....he had to use those "wrinkles" because we were in 3rd and long situations. thats obviously a sign of a good gameplan, being in 3rd and longs all the time.
