  1. Sucks he has to miss that game, I'm sure he was really looking forward to it. At least it's not going to be a long recovery. Hopefully he gets back on his feet soon, and it doesn't hamper him going forward.
  2. I hope he isn't afraid of competition. I hope none of our guys are afraid of competition. But if you were referencing Knevel, they'll be competing beside each other, not against each other. I think he meant for playing time. But, there are two tackle spots to fill, so it's not as big of an issue as it would be for a QB/RB IMO. I know. That's what I meant. Samuelson will be a guard. Knevel will be a tackle. Thus, "competing beside each other." I see. Was not aware that Samuelson would be moved inside.
  3. There is a rumble about him on another site's forum. (nothing I can substantiate though) It would make sense, given that we obviously aren't loading up on JUCO DTs like we wanted to, that we accept the commit from a HS DT that is interested.
  4. I want to see a long string of new threads here that have "DT" at the start of them. This guy is a good start.
  5. JUCO kids can sign from now until 1/15. So if he is signing as he commits IIRC, then he's locked in. If he commits without signing right away, then I wholeheartedly agree with your statement.
  6. You don't know that one way or the other. You think an extra three hours is actually going to make a difference in the decision? It's possible, but not known. What if a parent/coach/family couldn't make it on time? What if the school he's at had him do it? They were using the area and he was unaware when he told the scouting service? What if he couldn't get a hold of one of the college coaches to inform them in time? There are several reasons to delay his decision, and some of them may not be his fault. I'll withhold judgement, until he pulls something like that kid last year who just didn't show up to the announcement at his elementary school with all of the kids assembled. At least he's keeping people updated, and not technically wasting anyone's time yet.

  8. I'm not going to defend oversigning, but things to consider...there is attrition and they have a number of people that will go to the NFL after their junior year, not just graduating seniors. They took 19 last year as you stated, they could easily add 5 players to last year's list. Plus, I don't know where this 25 number is coming from. I'm not going to look it up, but there are probably 40 teams that sign over 25 kids per year. Including NU this year. We will take up to 27 or 28 commits this year, are we oversigning??? I'm not a Georgia or Richt fan, but he has long been against oversigning and been very outspoken against it. In the SEC, you can sign 25 players per year (whether the qualify or not). If you take 19 this year (2013), in 2014 you can take 31, provided that 6 of them are early enrollees so that they count against last years class. If you sign 25 per year, then you have 100 every four years, with an 85 scholarship limit. Add in a few redshirts, and the number rises that need to leave to keep signing full classes. Doing the math, let's say we have 85 scholarship players. I'll use Nebraska as the example. Out of our 85, we have 22 SRs that are graduating on scholarship (as far as I could tell). Some of them are walkons (Maher who got his as a JR, Choi, and Jackson) that are getting the scholarship because we weren't using it and had space, so we'll take them out, leaving 19. That means 6 kids need to leave early for the draft, or leave to stay under the limit. Now, still using us as an example, we are expecting to take somewhere around 25 this year, meaning that around 3 guys are leaving. We took 17 last year, so if we found enough early enrollees, we could take 33 guys this year by the rules, but we'd have to expect another 7 guys to "leave", meaning 10 total players leave for the draft or other reasons this year. When you start factoring in RS players being here an extra year, then you raise the number of guys who have to leave to be able to keep pulling in full classes of 25. Granted UGA is sending more guys to the NFL early than we are, but still, planning on almost 10 guys a year out of the system is a little high IMO. We seem to have had an exodus this year, and it's not close to that, much less an average. The only reason I'm singling out UGA here is because it looks like that's where Johnson's going. The whole SEC does this, and a lot of other schools do too (USC to avoid their penalty limits). We don't seem to be as cut-throat in making kids leave if they don't play, which is why I feel as a Husker fan, we still have a (small) soap box to stand on in regards to this issue. Richt is the Big-Boy School SEC coach I'd want if we had to pick one, so it's not an indictment on him, it's just the nature of the SEC beast.
  9. And yet they've got 30 on their commit list and are still trying to add. 30 in itself isn't too high with attrition, but you're only allowed to add 25 each season. Even with only haven taken 19 last year and being able to use early enrollees on last year's total, their next commit is their last by that rule, and I highly doubt Toby is the last guy they are after. So he is against "oversigning", but they sure aren't against making sure they get all 25 each year (which means that 15 kids from each class are either leaving to go Pro, or leaving the team by the time they should graduate. And that's not factoring in any redshirting.)
  10. Ouch, that's severely going to hamper Mark Richt's oversigning this year.
  11. Get that [Nebraska Commit] tag back up there. Welcome David! Glad to have you.
  12. Everything I have seen said he is completely good to go, and will be enrolled 2nd semester and participate in spring practice.
  13. Charles Jackson/Braylon Heard type of situation?
  14. I would guess he has to be a 2 for 2 guy. JCs can play right away if they graduate (as I understand), and that's where the 3 years to play 2 seasons comes from. He's a RS SO this year since he already sat out a year, so he'd be a RS JR wherever he ends up next season, leaving him 2 years to play 2 seasons.
  15. Search Love and McWilson's thread for "Marrow" on a post dated before yesterday..... There are none. They are defenders who are sold on playing defense for Bo at Nebraska. Marrow recruited them, but clearly, they were buying into the program, and not just the recruiting coach, as he's not even a defensive coach.
  16. Reports are saying Marrow to Kentucky as TE coach with good friend Stoops. Source is FootballScoop. Horrible timing if this is true.
  17. He must be committing somewhere besides Nebraska soon and they found out Good for him though. He deserves it. Would love to have him.
  18. Kid definitely has a nasty streak to him that is a great starting point for a DL. Would love to get him and see what he can turn into. If VV is all he's cracked up to be by the coaches, he'll require a double team, leaving this guy 1v1 with someone if they line up next to each other. Could be fun to watch.
  19. Knevel is my guess. May decide this weekend after his last visit (only taking the last couple because he promised them he would come). Made return trip to Lincoln to bring his dad on their dime from Canadialand. All signs point to NU IMO, but Wisconsin is still in the mix. Hopefully we can pick him up, he's a big guy and we need a few more of those.
  20. If he thinks 60 is cold, wait til January when wind chills are below 0. I have yet to start wearing a coat this year, I think its great weather so far! SHHHHHHH! Let's use the unseasonable weather to our advantage This is as cold as it will ever get in Lincoln, right guys?
  21. Must be, i know alot of people, myself included, saw him moving to saftey. He has the size for it. CJ would be a little undersized for saftey, but wow would that give us some athletes out there. Now that I think about it, it wouldn't shock me to see Rose at a safety spot. If you think about it, he's been at the school for a season now. He can see Green/Mitchell/Jackson/Seisay/Jean-Baptiste/etc all fighting for those two spots (Since Evans has the nickel locked down). If Joseph comes to him and says "You'd make a great safety. We don't have much of a depth chart there right now, so you could play/start next year" That has to make some sense to the kid, even if his heart is set on CB as opposed to waiting 1-2 years to work into a rotation. (Of course this is all being said without any knowledge of how good he looks at CB. He may be the next Prince A. for all I know) Joseph has said that Rose is a great talent and if he was available this season he would be starting. Yuppp! Joseph said Rose is a bigger, faster Ciante....and Ciante is arguably our best defender! Can't be disappointed with that. Hopefully it translates well to the field. Back to Toby, hope he recovers fully, and I think it's a great idea for him to plan on RSing. Would love to have him ready to go for 2014 in red.
