  1. Nice point, didn't realize that. All the more reason to celebrate and feel great as a fan. I did notice that Wats was up in the press box for the game. Wasn't he on the field quite a bit for awhile there this season? I was thinking he was...could be just high from the win though.
  2. Amen, I am so psyched after reading about the injuries and seeing what they are capable of on top of the excitement I already had toward next year with the D. We are going to be TOUGH to reckon with....not that we weren't already.
  3. Because CG is just a freshman and to saddle him with the burden of the season would probably ruin him. Way too much pressure. Plus, I think that would make CG a bigger target...and if word got out about Zac, he'd be getting his arm yanked on in every dogpile.
  4. Wow, you talk about my feelings toward that young man (and the O as a whole) taking a complete 180. Man, what a gutsy kid. Wow. Considering that Keith Williams had a significant injury (I think I read that) and that Helu and Rex had them and these guys still did what they did....and didn't complain or point fingers-man, I was so wrong about so many things on that side of the ball. Now, I see why Watson said what he did about throwing it all on the table. Holy smokes. Did they ever. I feel horrible for being so down on the Offense this season....I will gladly eat crow and take back every dang thing I have said about Zac, the offense and the staff on that side of the ball.
  5. ...the first game I saw on TV that I really sat down and paid attention to was TO's first win against OU. I remember looking at Big 8 magazine with my dad for several years before that and I'd listen to some of the games on the radio with him but that was the first one I remember sitting down and watching. I know I had favorite players based on their picture in the magazines...lol. I liked Andy Means I know and I.M. Hipp. I'll never forget that game. The stress...the excitement and my dad being so happy for TO. Ahhh, the memories. GO BIG RED!
  6. I think I was supposed to go to that game...if that was 52-7. We took off around midnight and hoped to get into town and get a few hours of sleep. My folks were already there in Nebraska and I had to wait for a buddy who was going with to get off work at 11pm because he wanted to go. We blew a head gasket in his car on the way, spent the night trying to figure it out and get a tow and were at my folks' house instead of Nebraska catching Zzzzzz's at 5am. We woke up in time to catch the game and ate the food we had in the cooler for the trip to make it more of a stadium experience.
  7. I believe it was in 87ish...I live outta state. I know we were playing South Carolina and I think they had Sterling Sharpe at the time. I remember walking through the parking lots with the stupid rooster crow sounds going off for the Gamecocks and thinking "WTH is that"....it was crazy! I had also never sat in any stands in the end of a stadium (south) and thought it was impossible to tell if a gain went for 7 yards or minus 3. I'm pretty sure we had Scott Baldwin then, too. I'm just too lazy to look up the date and rosters right now. I liked the SC fans though. It was pretty cool to see how they tailgated. i thought they had a decent following and showing.
  8. From what I've read, I don't think anyone here is confused. Do you think that Husker fans wouldn't want to have their school earning more revenue? I don't know that anyone is saying that the TV contract situation is where it should be as far as what the other conferences have. I don't think many here advocate MU leaving either. I do think schools need to EARN their share. Yes, MU has some earning power- POTENTIALLY- in the sheer number of potential viewers. I agree with the posters who say that those sets are likely to not be turned on when MU is playing and MU certainly doesn't have the prestige or following of many other Big 12 schools. Much like the televisions in Colorado aren't typically on for Buffs games. Why do you think CU isn't being aggressively pursued? You've got the Denver market for televisions supposedly but they aren't tuned into the Buffs. CU fans aren't die hard. If a school like CU were to earn the same TV money as NU, they had sure as heck be pumping money into their facilities and their athletic departments and staffs so that they can be relevant in the conference because some of these schools aren't relevant....regardless of sport. I'm sure UT feels somewhat the same about NU. Texans for Colorado, Texans for Missouri...how many people do those groups have as members and what do they actually do? Do they exist? Do they get their teams' games broadcast locally on the radio? Do they go to watch parties in their respective state and bring money to the local economy with those watch parties? I agree, the potential of the MU TV market is a nice piece of pie. Potentially. I'd really have to see it proven though. I also agree that I'd rather have MU in the conference 10 times over CU, Baylor, Iowa State, KSU, Okie St. and maybe Texas Tech. KU might be a tossup.
  9. Merry Christmas to all. May you all have a prosperous NU Year too....lol! Seriously though, may you all have a prosperous new year. Everyone in this dang country deserves it regardless of religious or football affiliation. Here's to all of you
  10. I don't know about the whole revenue sharing thing. I wonder what the Big10's various schools "really" think about it? If you're a successful sports school and you're sharing revenue with one that sucks wind every single year, why in the hell do you want to give them a share of the pot, equally, when they have done nothing to earn it??? Seriously. You have schools that are pouring money into stadium expansions and facilities to attract "better" athletes and schools that quite frankly, don't have the resources or the fan base to even warrant it and shouldn't be in the conferences. The argument about academics is such a friggin crock. It is all about money in the end. What theme or mantra was the most prevalent in that interview?? TV REVENUE. Not the research part. This is all about the money and the other parts are gravy to satisfy the rest of the administration. If the Big12 DOES go to revenue sharing, then they seriously need to consider punting the weak sports schools. OR, force them to invest said shared revenue into their facilities to start attracting better recruits so they can be relevant nationally....especially in FOOTBALL where the money IS. I think that the Big12 probably does have it right, or closer to right than we'd like to admit and if these AD's were at all able to speak openly, they'd probably say the same thing from the sounds of Beebe's statements. Should they revisit things? Sure....along with expansion and subtraction. Fact is, NU has earned what it should and UT, like it or not, has also, I'd say. We are becoming relevant again, but we haven't been and nobody knew if we would due to SPAD and company. I could be waaaay off, I admit, since I don't know how these institutions are set up/funded and make their money. This is just an outsiders monkey view of it all! Equal revenue sharing sounds to me a little like Socialism.....
  11. Yes kept getting beat by the number 1, 2 and sometimes 3rd ranked team those years was a disgrace. The problem was when we didn't even look like we belonged on the same field with Miami or Florida State (or even Georgia Tech) in the late 80s/early 90s bowl games. Suddenly the power and option football we'd been ramming down the throats of the 7 dwarfs was meaningless when those teams would stack the line and we had no passer to keep them honest. I agree that we looked bad in those bowl games, but we weren't used to the speed of those defenses. I think everyone loaded the box when we played them but we had a few match ups that we could usually exploit. Our D was the plodding 5-2 also, and that put us in the position to where we had to play from behind which was never our strong suit. Of course, our timing was always hosed because of the long layoff between the regular season and the bowl. TO and Charlie figured it out though and we went on the run that most people agree was the best in history. I agree with those who say there will be a few super conferences in a few years and I think the SEC will be the first. They'll grab teams like Miami, FSU, GaTech and someone else just to get the televisons....maybe even North Carolina. That would be a murderous conference though, so maybe they'd add some "weaker" teams than FSU/Miami....even though they are down right now. The ACC/Big East will eventually align and try to pull in whatever they are forced to, IMO. So which will be the super conference we are in? Big 12+ or Big11+, that's what it comes down to. I don't think the Big 12 has the stroke to raid the Big 11 for any teams worth going after unless the Big 12 really goes after an upgrade across the board on TV, facilities, etc. Even then, who would you get? Iowa, Minnesota? So that leaves the Utahs, BYUs, TCUs and Boise States of the world. No way is Arkansas leaving the SEC. Either way, we're looking at extending travel whether the Big 12 expands or we leave the conference. One of those things will happen though. There's way too much rumbling for things not to get crazy soon. The PAC10 could grab those Utah schools pretty quickly as they are rattling their sabers now. BYU would be tough due to the whole not playing on Sundays thing, I guess. Boise State makes too much sense for the PAC10. Either way, expansion will probably have to include 1-2 more schools from Texas. Who else do you get? CSU? Wyoming? Utah State? If you bring in the "weaker" schools, does that make it a super conference? Super conferences will probably end the idea of any team going undefeated.
  12. Cripes, I can't believe I forgot to put Brook Berringer on my list. What a great kid, with a career cut short. Speaking of careers cut short, except at the college level. How about: Doug DuBose Scotty Baldwin Terry Rodgers DeAngelo Evans
  13. Ohhh boy...the list is endless but I'll put in my 1,000 cents. I apologize ahead of time for slaughtering any name spellings: Favorite Announcers: Kent Pavelka and Gary Sadlemyer!! Thank you for the wonderful memories fellas! I'd pay to have these two in the booth again. Nothing against anyone current or prior. Kenny Walker-agree with the sentiment that he was amazing as a player, then add his deafness and the whole Mimi Mann(?) part and it is just a great story. I believe the crowd and Kenny signed "I love you" back and forth or something like that for his last home game. Broderick "Sandman" Thomas-cocky but he was kinda a first of the newer generation of Rush Ends. Baron Miles-might be one of the best corners ever as far as shutdown types and his size makes it all that more impressive. Corey Dixon-so much heart, like Baron, for his size. Cory Schlesinger- demolition derby on 2 legs. I will never forget those 2 scoring runs to put the dagger in the heart of the 'canes-watching with misty eyes and profound, deep Husker pride as TO finally wins his first title after coming sooo close so many times. Dan "Danimal" Alexander: What a beast with a big heart. I loved watching his lowly 4.55ish speed leave Ben Kelly's 4.2 in the dust. Both Double Nickel Peter Brothers--Peterbilt. Loved their intensity, their sense of humor and everything about them. Growling, snarling and infectious. Just as proud to be a fan of theirs today as I was when they played. Grant Wistrom- he did have the physical tools and the motor just pushed it over the top. Jared Tomich- you've got to include him in the same breath as the Peter Brothers, Grant, Terry Connealy and Dwayne Harris/Donta Jones. Kevin Ramaekers comes to mind here as well. Johnny Mitchell-just a great all around athlete. It's too bad we didn't get to see his full career. Derek Brown- what a tough, gutsy runner and my favorite of the "we-backs" because he was a tough runner who always collapsed the tackler and gained YAC. He was so shy but such a pounding runner. I think Rex is very similar in style. Keithen McCant-proud as hell of the way this guy stepped up his senior year. Mike Anderson- prototypical MIKE Zach Weigert- when he came around the end of the line with those arms "cocked", look the heck out. I loved watching him sending guys pinwheeling across the turf. I remember Derek Brooks saying that Zach hit him harder than anyone had and I believe this was after he was in the pros. Will Shields- great guy, great player, great athlete. Dave Rimington- our center was always "false starting"...lol. A man among boys in his day. Aaron Taylor-too bad he was "too short" to play elsewhere in college. Our gain! Very versatile and a beast in his own right. Aaron Graham- the quiet, cerebral player and absolutely one of the best. Jim Scott- I remember him being called something like a pickup in the middle of the big rigs when they referred to our OLine with him in it. Heart! Clint Finley-what a hitter. Remember him knocking a KSU lineman on his rear on a pick by Joe Walker, I believe. Stoned him. Joe Walker was great as was Eric Johnson and Eric Warfield. Mike Brown- possibly our greatest safety ever. Sure tackling. He and Tyrone Byrd are in my Top 5 I'd say. IM Hipp- my first fave player. Roger Craig- loved his running style. I'm leaving off some of the more obvious ones because we know who they are, even though some of the above are obvious too.
