All it's gonna take is TexasTech not to play ball and the Big 12 is doomed. Plus Texas only option will be the SEC since the Pac-10 and Big 10 won't want them after what they have done to the Pac-10. I guess Texas Tech and Okie Lite bowed according to their boards, from what I've read. More nom-nom-nom, I love you Texas!

So, now UT has potentially alienated themselves from the Pac-10. I suppose they will always be attractive, but they are tarnished for now. When these other conferences expand, and they will, where will Texas go? If you're not in one of the conferences, a BCS conference at some point, you will not get into a bowl. Harvey Perlman's role in the BCS and I think that was attractive to the Big 10 as well. What kind of influence will Harvey Perlman have on the BCS as far as locking out independents at some point? It is an unfair situation and would be more so if UT were allowed to get away with it too. UT to: Pac-10: All of this ugliness could have an impact there. Stanford might not be so willing the next time around, nor the other schools because the next TV contract is coming up. Big-10: Ditto, plus the little brothers. SEC: Significantly lowers their academics; regardless of SEC spin. MWC: Will it be around in the same capacity? Utah is already gone it sounds like. So they swapped Boise St. for Utah. They've gotta be a little miffed. Pac-10 might raid them now to save some face.

In the end, I am happy for them. There was absolutely nothing else the former Big 12 north schools could do. Non-conference scheduling is potentially a key to all of this in that these schools cannot schedule patsies near as easily as they could before due to the slightly diminished SOS in the Big 12/-2 now. I think OU might have that covered pretty well, but I haven't looked at the other teams.

The whole Pac-10 "leak" by Texas and Dodds' comment is exactly what he says: "We didn't start it.." so if they can politically maneuver themselves into the Big 10, they can say it was Nebraska's fault that the Big 12 died and they HAD to do what was best for UT. I won't pretend that I know what UT is thinking or Texas state politics or how their boosters tie into it, but this IS NOT the same UT that it was when the SWC died. I think that this might be something that is missing in the conversations, regardless of the "Tech problem" emails. They are (I'd think) much more powerful these days and the crown jewel in the state obviously. Is UT powerful enough now, on it's own, to get around the politics and do what it wants without the worry of TAMU and TTech? If they are, they might tell the Big 10 that they only come if NU isn't invited. I just don't underestimate the ability of UT to screw with NU. We all know that ND and UT would be huge for the Big 10. Then they can add a Mizzou or eastern team and be done. I've heard that NU will have a soft landing spot regardless. I assume that is the Pac-10, if we are shut out of the Big 10. I thought we were dissing the whole travel part of the Pac-10 and the fact that U$C runs that show, just like UT does the Big 12!!!! I just don't think that NU is in as pretty a spot as some of you are gloating about. I'd love it if that was the case. Call me a pessimist. I hope others are right. I do wonder what kinda stroke Harvey has though.....

They have a good idea of who they want and more importantly who would accept and apparently ND still isn't willing. They will bide their time and see if the Big East makes any moves that will change ND's mind while knowing they can more than likely have any of the schools mentioned in the various "leaks". That is probably part of the reason Beebe is cranky, too. He might have thought he'd get a little more notice or an inkling of that the thoughts were due to the fact that Beebe "implicitly" trusts Delany. He probably found out that friendship is just that and business is business. The Big East as a football conference is pretty much dead anyway. From the articles I've read anyway. This is just the beginning of the pressure ratcheting up...

But it seems that UT/OU/TAM and Okie Lite are tied at the hip due to politics, etc. If Okie Lite and OU aren't AAU, where can they go? I don't know that the Pac-10 would take them....and Stanford would absolutely have to be forced or bought off to allow it. If the ACC and Pac-10 form the alliance, which Scott has mentioned, then what? UT has to "suck it up" and go to the SEC and take at minimum TAM and break the ties with OU, unless OU can get out of having to take Okie Lite with them. I believe I read where that is a legal requirement or something. Of course if I'm the SEC, I try to preemptively raid the ACC to make it less attractive to the Pac-10. That would reduce the payouts per team unless they can renegotiate their current deals that are pretty fresh. Maybe a conference line up change could force that deal to be reworked...depending on if the teams you add will deliver the goods. From reading the deal with the Big East mess between it's football and hoops, they seem likely to be raided by more than the Big 10 for football. KU/KSU are bound by the same deal that OU and Okie Lite are, I believe I saw a Jayhawk fan post on this site or HI's free board. KSU isn't AAU either that I saw. Interesting times, indeed...

He can chirp all he wants (and he is chirping cuz he's scared) but he and his minions in the South are just trying to control the damage and do spin control. Everyone sees it. UT will likely be fine in all of this as well as they're little brother in Oklahoma. Beebe will probably be okay once he is punted from his spot (after the fact) because he is really just an extended staff member of UT anyway. What would be funny is if NU/MU/CU bolt AND the ACC/Pac-10 alliance happens instead of the Big 12/Pac-10. The ACC alliance could me more attractive if the Big 12 is without those 3 schools because Arkansas is not foolish and won't leave. U$C is as arrogant or worse than Texas. The Pac-10/ACC deal would deliver both coasts and CU would deliver what it can capture of the Denver market, which historically isn't much. I wonder if Stanford would be "persuaded" to let UT join this time. If that happens, there goes the alliance with OU because I can't see Stanford, let alone the rest of the Pac-10 wanting a non AAU school. There is too much cronyism and politics to have UT/OU/ATM/Okie Lite and the like "switch". I think they're all one school. UT could go it alone if it wanted to money-wise but let's not forget the politics. The KU/KSU political part might be too much to tackle also.

What gets lost in all this expansion frenzy is that NU isn't just considering the Big Ten for athletics alone. The bigger picture in all of this is improving NU's overall status as an academic institution. I've read from many Big 10 fans that when Penn St. first joined the Big 10, they were at the bottom of the totem pole academically, but because they joined the Big 10, their academic profile shot up the ranks and now they're better off than they've ever been thanks in large part to the CIC. The CIC is a goldmine and Chancellor Perlman knows this. Perlman is a scholar, so his interest in the Big Ten is about academic prestige. Research is where the $ is at and the Big Ten gets large chunks of those research-related contracts in both public and private sectors. This is the REAL reason why NU is considering the Big Ten. In the end, Perlman will have the final say whether we go or not. I'd be shocked if he turned down the offer. The athletic side of the Big Ten opportunity is just icing on the cake for NU. Being a member of the CIC would be the grand slam for the university as a whole. Yep...I think we've covered everything over and over. I think we all just keep posting it because it is all so interesting to see these heavyweights do their thing to get what they want and not be exposed legally somehow. I know every little tidbit I see is shedding new light on the whole buddy system and how these guys work and have been working. I know I'm not adding anything new. You bet that NU is licking their chops on all fronts at this and NU makes sense for the Big 10. I'm sure Delany knows that Rutgers or Syracuse won't really deliver the NY market but he has to diminish the Big East to force his prize, Notre Dame, to comply and he has to get the Big East to try to force Notre Dame's hand if they can't see the writing on the wall. Like I said and others have as well...Delany will get ND, MU and NU out of this at minimum, I'd think. It is too bad he can't get KU, too. I wonder if Perkins could get KU around the whole tie to KSU? ....imagine how it is in congress then and the government and big business. Well, I don't have to and neither does anyone else. But the complexities and chess moves. Wow!

That's in this article about Mizzo. I knew the Big 12/ Pac-10 thing had been discussed, but not the Pac-10/ACC thing. So much going on. So, any move by UT would likely have to include ATM, OU and OSU minimum based on what Boren and Pickens have said and Texas politics. That's a lot to move. No wonder they're firm on staying with what they have.

I guess I was naive in thinking that OU was anything but a shill for UT. Boren sounds like Beebe. Delany is playing this perfectly, like people have said. He knows he will blow up the Big East by taking some teams from them and the Big 12. CU will jump as soon as Pac-10 calls and they will based on the mutual butt kissing in the papers between the two groups. ND will have their hand forced in the end. Paul Tagliabue was hired to keep that from happening-defection, that is. If he senses losing schools, he would almost have to force Notre Dame's hand then. He wasn't brought in to just sit. I don't know that the Big East can offer anything to make those schools mentioned as leaving stay or to get Notre Dame to join in football or get out. As people have said, this is getting down to "cutting" time. I don't know that I can see U$C and UT playing nice over money. That is two huuuuuge egos. They might be able to come up with something, but that something might come at the expense of OU, ATM, UCLA. It will certainly cause some more animosity. I'd still bet against the whole alliance if it is being used for contract leverage. The SEC doesn't need UT and UT doesn't like the SEC from what's been said. The SEC might not be able to do much with it's current contract statuses but they'd likely raid the ACC anyway. OU/OSU, KU/KSU and UT/ATM are all linked at the hip at minimum, so they're a package deal at minimum. You might have to add Baylor and TTech to any impending UT move, depending on how politics play out down there. That makes the remainder of the Big 12 tough to take on. You've had Boren and OU say they're staying and Pickens say he wants OSU to stay, so that is pretty much it. As the rhetoric ratchets up, it continues to strengthen Delany's position. He will end up with that he wants.

...then what was your point? Don't pretend you weren't implying that we're lucky we don't have to face TP. We've seen plenty of QB's like Pryor, whether it be recent or a ways in the past. My reading comprehension is fine and my BS detector works wonderfully! We even have a similar QB on our team in Cody Green. He's another "if he puts it together" type of player who hasn't gotten the chance TP has. His only chance was to get thrown into the fire mid season with a very banged up offense. The jury is out on Cody Green.

DO you know why you won't find anyone in the Big 10 (or in most conferences) with a passing attack like TT? It may win you a lot of games but it doesn't win you championships. Pryor isn't like most QB's. If he plays like he did in the Rose Bowl, he is a very hard QB to stop. He won't kill you with the pass but his all around game can/should be something special. Saying that, there is a good chance you won't see him vs NEB so it really doesn't matter. Nebraska's style of play should work well in the Big 10. I would like to think that Bo understands the conference. LOL!!!! I'm trying to show some respect and there ya go, saying we haven't seen a QB like TP, even though we've played many dual-threat QB's. Have we gotten torched or beat by some of them? Yep. Did Bo adjust and learn and work on better schemes and start getting his athletes vs. Callahan's in the mix? Yep. Is TP anything special? The jury's still out. Not gonna judge. He could be. He has the tools. The reason why TTech hasn't won any titles is because they didn't have the D to go with it. Give me a break...a passing attack can win the title like any other attack. It takes a D and special teams, too. Does it pay to be multiple? You bet! I'm not debating that. I think you can win with any type of attack as long as you can play D and control the clock when you need to. Let's not be silly.

Either way, we'll have to prove it on the field. That's going to be the fun part. Let's line 'em up and hit each other in the mouth and see. This is part of why we're excited right? This isn't a bad thing....the potential looking down the noses at NU/MU. It is part of what we're signing up for and we all know it. What's the big deal? I agree, the speed thing is over used. Be it schemes or whatever. Scheme will probably trump athleticism if the scheme is played soundly. We had some decent speed at some places with Cosgrove. A step here and there makes a huge difference and so does the intelligence and reading the keys, ala the CU game that I need not mention. I think Bo can play any offensive scheme and we'll have the athletes and packages to match up. The rest is what makes it fun. Our offense will have plenty of speed. We're getting "our guys" into place on the OL, too. I don't think anyone in the Big 10 has a passing attack like TTech has/had. I think we've seen QB's like tOSU et al have. I think Bo can scheme against power running....lol and we've got some bigger 'backers if need be. Let's do this! It will be fun!

Like people are saying, he has no leverage and he has nothing to offer. If I were in his role, I would honestly do the same thing. As in, I'd want to find out intentions so you could work on your next steps as far as what to do. That is just business. The tough talk is just him trying to cover his arse and look tough and like he tried to do something to appease UT and everyone else and maybe vilify the defecting schools. Like we've (you've) been saying...too little, too late. The Pac-10 thing isn't even going to be a factor, no matter what is dangled in front of NU. Reason being is that there is nothing academically that would be added that I can see. Yes, this is about money and sports but as we've said, there is the academic aspect that can't be overlooked and that won't be there with the Pac-10 stuff we've heard. The remaining Big 12 will be just fine because they'll do that Pac-10 thing to get more money for UT....um, I mean the Big 12. It will be a new version of what happened to the Big 12 with UT, USC and maybe UCLA/OU/ATM being the ones people whine about as far as their part of the pie. I don't know though...I don't know what UT wants to battle USC because those are two biiiiig egos. I wonder how much it would cost the Big 10 for the naming rights for the Big 16? Obviously there won't be a need for the current Big 12 to have those names anyway.

...eventually the BCS or whomever is in charge will require a team to have played a conference championship. These super conferences that appear to be looming are going to be "it" and the "it" will be driven by money. I doubt it will be feasible to be an independent in the very near future. It will be sickening to watch in some ways but we've all been clamoring for it lately.... CFB playoffs and true national champs. I guess we all knew what the path would probably have to look like to get there. You'll have the other conferences create their own championship potentially and that might be worth some money, like the NIT. We're on the cusp of major changes....

I'd have no problem with almost any of the other Big 12 schools coming if we do go. I'd rather it be OU and UT if we were any of the southern teams (understand that OU isn't qualified IIRC) and I'd like KU from the north also. I don't find Texas fans to be any more obnoxious than CU fans and at least Texas has a few things of importance to brag about. Most Texas fans I run into are just prideful in their state and couldn't name more than maybe a player or 2 off of their team at any point in time. If the administrative playing field were leveled, I wouldn't care if we left the conference if we had the Pac-10 alliance deal. At least not nearly as much. I just don't trust anything involving Texas any more. Maybe we'd feel that way in the Big 11ty16. I hate CU, U$C, and Miami much more than Texas. I actually really only hate the Texas administration and the Big 12's. I still find the Whorns rather pathetic in most ways. At least U$C was buying championships and had some solid coaching and did something with the talent that falls into their laps. Texas really hasn't. Texas would be at home in the SEC as part of the good ole boys network down south. CU can go to the Pac-10 because this state (Colorado) is becoming like Kalifornia and that coast more and more each year anyway. I am surprised that we haven't heard much out of OU.......

My thought is that regardless on people's thoughts on BRM or the site, people need to stand up to friggin corporate America and take a stand with the only thing they understand. That is money...be it real, or website hits or whatever angle you to care to choose. Well, if he's doing like Bo says and making sure he's 100%, then that's what he needs to do. This is exactly what we want...kids that WANT to be N without any doubts. If it doesn't work out, then it doesn't work out. It is fun to get caught up in the hype of recruiting but this is about these kids' life and it is just entertainment for us.

Makes me laugh that Oregon fans think they're this national powerhouse and always have been and that NU is nothing and hasn't been. At least that's what the post quoted above sounds like. I realize it is a what have you done for me lately world but....Bo has us on course! C'mon Owa!!! You know what the staff and school can do for you in academics AND football! Well, I know I've called out Watson many a time this season. I wanted him tossed out on his ear and I woulda gladly picked up the fare to the airport. With that said, everyone has mentioned and made a deal nationally about how much OU lost to injury. Did we lose AS much as they did? No. Consider: -We lost Q before the season. -We lost Spano -We lost Helu (who was considered as a potential longshot Heisman candidate and certainly All Big 12 hopeful) -We lost Rex who was just starting to come into his own -We lost Burkes, even though I'm sure it was somewhat expected -We lost Qvale, who I believe was thought to be pushing for starting time by the end of non conference play at latest. -We had Hickman hurt pretty much all season -I believe I read that Keith Williams has a torn tendon somewhere in his upper body early on -We had our starting QB playing with an injured finger, then wrist which caused a tendon tear in his throwing arm. Have you ever had tendinitis in your elbow? That hurts and aches like a mother and that isn't a tear. What do they do? They tell you to ice it and then heat it and not throw. Not an option for Zac. Did he lack some progression reads? We lost our 1-2 punch at IB, and even our "sucker punch" in Rex. We basically lost our starting QB after Arkansas St. in which Zac made "all the throws" according to the commentators. I believe that Keith Williams was considered to be the best lineman next to, who was it, Hickman? Remember Suh and Williams battling in fall camp and the players saying how much fun it was to watch those 2 go at it? Now add in receivers who might be great athletes, but must not be able to grasp the complexities of the position, at least not yet. Hell, NP was suspect as hell and really had to step it up to give the offense any deep threat and luckily Kinnie finally came along and caught on. Is that Gilmore's fault or Watson's? Where in the hell was Zac supposed to throw if he could manage to keep his arm from flying off? Mike McNeil still had a ways to go in the blocking realm early and I don't know if he has it yet, but it seemed as if when he came in, it was obvious where the ball was going because nobody else could catch the ball consistently. I hated the play calling at times...a lot of times. I now totally see why they had to throw it all on the table and start over. What they threw on the table wasn't much in terms of known quantities. I think that if Zac/Roy hadn't gotten hurt so early, you might have seen the RS come off of some other guys on offense. I haven't heard how the injury situation with Sirles is (or Qvale for that matter) so I might be wrong. The timing just sucked. To head into Blacksburg with Zac hurt really cost us. I think that was the end of any confidence he had because the receivers couldn't catch crap when Zac managed to get it to them. I think they were still antsy about Rex enough to where they did ride Roy too much and he was gassed at the end. He didn't have any moves whatsoever and plowed headlong into the backs of the linemen, IIRC. I am pretty confident that next season, we will see: 1. A much deeper, powerful and MEAN OLINE 2. As powerful a punch at IB as we've had since the we-backs and depth behind them like we had during some of TO's finest years. Maybe some thunder and lightning again... 3. Improved WR play...whether by coaching change, talent influx, reps, new players or all of the above. What the hell happened to Will Henry and Antonio Bell? Injuries? I think Bell was.... 4. Monster TE play. We have too many talented bodies there to not have someone be a really dangerous receiving threat AND blocker. 5. Zac Lee to have a Scott Frost -esque senior season. OR, another QB might have to step up, but we have a long time to get CG, KS, LW and maybe TM some meaningful reps. 6. A mean Wildcat/Joker/Schmoker/RedHotPoker scheme at times. Zac(?), CG, Rex, Roy, TM, LaTravis....yeah! 7. I think and hope (man, do I hope) that the offensive staff uses what they've learned here at the end, combine it with the offseason and perhaps some picking of Tom's brain, to be a beast at BOTH throwing and running and be truly 2 dimensional on offense. Couple that with a DEFENSE that will be a BEAST and some great special teams weapons and we will blow threw the schedule like we did in the mid 90's.
