  1. If you look at that list, there are certainly some crossovers between our targets and their JD invitees. Metoyer, Onyegbule, Westerman, Wallace, Green, Reed, etc. Last year Texas picked up 16 committments in the month of February during the junior days. Since there's only about 40-50 on that list, expect a chunk of those...including a few of our targets to disapear in the next 3 weeks.
  2. He mentioned going to Texas's JD a few weeks ago here Texas has 2 JD's, the 13th and the 27th. He's on their list here but hasn't designated which date. Since the 13th is this weekend I'm guessing he would have already designated by now, so he'll probably go there the 27th instead of us. He was also just recently at Baylors JD. EDIT: updated link
  3. Interesting that Sarkisian mentions USC at the end of the article, yet it's very rare to see USC recruit more than 18-20 players. In addition to their low numbers, over the last 5-10 years USC has put as many, if not more juniors into the NFL than any other team out there. I never understood how USC managed to keep 85 on scholarship. Do they have zero attrition or a spectacular walk-on program with players recieving scholarships later? Neither seems likely but I don't follow USC at all. According to Rivals they have 98 on their roster, NU has 99. Where are all the rest of USC's players coming from? Even if they redshirted that entire 2005 class, had zero attrition, and no one left for the NFL, their 2005-2009 numbers total only 3 more than their current roster. Over that same period NU signed 129 players. We have very few juniors leaving early for NFL, and award 1-3 walkons a scholarships per year. Does NU really have that much more attrition than USC? USC/NU 2010: 20/21 2009: 19/20 2008: 19/28 2007: 18/27 2006: 25/22 2005: 20/32 2004: 20/20 2003: 28/19 2002: 22/18
  4. That's about the farthest thing from being scientific or realistic I've read in a while. Did he consider that the wins/losses in 2004 & 2005 didn't include the classes from 2004 & 2005 that he was comparing against? How about the fact that Ole Miss plays in the SEC? Their classes where in the bottom quarter of the conference from 2002-2005 which is the classes that were winning & losing games 2004-2008. That and the fact that they had to play 8 games a year against competition better than 90% of the teams Cincinatti played isn't really considered. Funny how the ordained USC comes out perfect though.
  5. haha - what have I done...???... Sorry EZ, my bad for calling you out. In related news however - that Turner kid is big time.
  6. I thought the same thing about this years class until I began to hear recruits explain why they picked a school after signing day. Almost everyone mentions their relationship with the coaches almost imediately. That relationship is something built over an entire year. By the time our last 7 games came around, and Suh was getting all the hype we were only a few months away from signing day. It provided a huge boost, and kept us in on Owa...probably landed Cooper but didn't have much of an affect outside of the few recruits that were undecided due to a coaching changes or turmoil at their original schools. If we aren't in on the recruit early and often, we have a limited chance of gaining the commit IMHO. I'd say 3 out of 4 of our recruits will come from kids we've offered or showed interest in prior to April 1st. Outside of coaching changes at a recruit's top choice or a National Championship, success on the field this year won't have nearly as big of an affect on this year's class as the success on the field last year. (see florida) Like you, I think this will be the season where we really see last years success on the field, translate into success recruiting.
  7. I'd hope so, kind of hard to convince college professors to lecture out of your living room...
  8. You going to post every few weeks that "this kid is big time" EZ? At least your consistent...
  9. There's also 7 (MO) & 4 (IL) recruits on that list. (NE)=0 Unfortunately, Missouri is becoming a fairly solid state for talent. Throw in East St. Louis and Pinkly has half a class of 4 & 5 stars within a 15-25 minute helicopter ride. Missouri has always been a solid state for talent. That's why TO has always said that Mizzou was a sleeping giant. If they ever are able to close the borders in recruiting, then they will be very good. For all his warts, Pinkel has done an excellent job in that regard. And that hurts Nebraska doubly because it also drains them of a region that used to be ripe for Nebraska's picking. We still get guys from Missouri (like Rome, Compton, McNeill, Brooks, etc.), but it's now a battle to get them out of Mizzou's paws. Sleeping giant is a bit of a stretch, I'd go more w/ stoned midget. Generally high and inebriated (< 2003), a stoned midget often wakes up hungry. This leads to short outburts of ankle biting and a general pain in the a$$ stretch of livelyhood (2003-2008) - fortunately it's quickly followed by another mellow stretch of emptyness (2009-*) (MO) Recruits in top 250 2010 - 3 2009 - 3 2008 - 1 (b. gabbert) 2007 - 4 2006 - 2 (j. freeman)

  11. Staples mentioned him in an article this afternoon. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/andy_staples/02/08/2011-class/index.html Looks like he went to KU Junior Day (Rivals teaser). I didn't think KU Junior days were until later in the month but I guess not. Gill being a 2 sport QB should help w/ their recruitment of him. I still see him going MLB route, but we'll see.
  12. I'm sure before it's all over with, he'll have about ($)500,000 reasons why. I think Reggie had about 350,000 reasons when he went there, so I'm guessing 500k would be about right.
  13. I think Kiffin's a snake like most, but I did respect his approach to being the head coach at Tennessee, and that's surrounding himself with quality assistants and solid recruiters. He's a CEO, he manages the team as a whole. Player development and scheme is mostly left to his assistants. Because of that his assistants are also paid accordingly. I hate it when someone like Mack Brown is making 5 million a year and then his assistants pull in 200k each. Bo is doing a good job of spreading that wealth as well, which I respect but he could do more. The gap is just growing too large between the head coach and the assistants. Eventually that will cause issues. When TO was around making like 200k, I highly doubt his assistants were pulling down 10% of his salary at the time. That's what it's come to. It's too bad.
  14. USC now has 8 more scholarships next year to give 5* players... I can see your point and I'm sure your correct, but at the same time if there were 25 in EVERY class, and we had redshirts you'd end up with 100+ kids on scholarship...so if it's not possible in reality, why pretend it is w/ your recruiting rankings. 20 is a good number, I see why the do it. Gotta be even across the board. That formula was develope by someone a lot smarter than all of us, I'm going to go w/ it until someone suggests better.
  15. Because a 5* player has a 1 in 15 chance of being an All-American vs. a 1 in 145 chance across the board. I'd say his chance is even slightly better than the 1 in 15 at NU, so if he's good enough to earn that 5th star, I'm going to be a very happy camper because since he's never put on a uniform - odds are all we have to go by.
  16. You can fill a class with 3-stars and win, no one disputes that. But you are going against the odds. Everyone argues stars by pointing out lower ranked classes that won, or a 3 star that became an All-American. There are plenty of examples out there, but there should be...between 2005 and 2009 there were over 4400 3 star players, but only 178 5 stars. Do you expect rivals to be exact all 4400 times? Be realistic. Of course out of 4400 players some will shine. But I'd play the odds and be chasing 5 stars if my $2.5million/year job was on the line.
  17. what started out as a spectacular day turned into just a pretty good one. unfortunately the bad news followed the great news so i'm depressed and heading the bar shortly. if anyone in the KC area wants to drink away the news with me I'll be at O'Dowd's on the Plaza for happy hour - the nerd w/ the laptop.
  18. are you kidding jlie? i just got here! drive the knife in further why don't....maybe twist it around a little.
  19. I'm packing my things and heading over the Simek's board. Good bye to the Owa thread.
  20. haha - someone shoudl tell that kid he's being heard by thousands of people because he'd talking crap on Mexicans and soccer players
  21. I love how he has to warn people not to fight in his status update. Some good comments in there as well...
