  1. With all due respect. There's a lot of ppl on this board who never made it past high school football or never saw the field in college who think they know "issues" with scheme or philosophy in coaching. I think when we look at our coaches we need to look at the experts and their thoughts. I hear guys like Keyshawn Johnson say Mike Riley was one of the best coaches he ever had. He says out problem right now is we were running an offense designed for a dual threat QB based on a lot of zone read and QB run. We fired that staff and hired a staff that runs a pro style west coast offense designed for a drop back passer and multiple TE/WR sets. The philosophy is almost a 180 to what most of our upperclassmen players were taught and were recruited to play. For many of our players they had 2-3 years of terminology/technique/philosophy taught and now they are being told to do it in all ways they were taught against in the previous system. I met a couple of former NFL DB's at an event last fall. They had played on Nebraska's championship teams in the 90's Booker and Groce. They both said Nebraska would have a rough year defensively their first year with Banker. They explained to me that going from Pelini's D to Banker's D was so opposite, it would take a lot of time and repetition for those players to make the switch. They also spoke to the difference in skill sets recruited for the two different defenses, many times the recruits are built differently and the same types of players aren't even recruited. They talked about how the NFL has teams in each philosophy but how you will see NFL teams look to draft guys that "fit their system" and how college is the same. Keyshawn spoke in a recent interview about how Mike Riley needs some recruiting cycles to find and bring in his guys. It's not fair to judge these coaches on how they do with these kids they didn't even bring in, and for the ones they do bring in, you can't expect 18yr olds to immediately contribute on the field. Very few do. Give them a couple of years to develop. I listen to the professionals out there talk about Mike... Les Miles thinks he would be a good coach for his son. Keyshawn wants his son playing for Mike and the D coaches. Evidently the NFL thought guys like Langs were good enough to hire him for a coveted NFL position with an MVP and Super Bowl winning QB and they were pretty upset when he left. Everyone has all these opinions about we can only have success "if"... But let's not put these conditional statements on coaches who have barely had one recruiting class they recruited and signed to work with. Let's not say Langs philosophy is bad when he inherited a running QB with bad footwork and decision making. Let's not say he is a bad coach because he doesn't create a Tommy designed system. It's not fair. Nor is it realistic. And you can't judge their abilities as coaches based on what they did with a bad NFL team or their years at Oregon State. I guarantee you if Nick Saban were dropped into Iowa State he couldn't win more than 6-7 games a year. They don't have the resources/facilities/population/talent for him to do better. A coach is often times as good as his surroundings are. So let's stop trying to diagnose coaching issues. I'm really tired of all these people thinking they know what we need to do to fix everything.
  2. I have just seen too many kids take their biggest high level offer and commit as a placeholder but then the hometown school they grew up a fan of that is high level comes in when their plan a's and b's fall through or a higher level program comes in last minute and sweeps that kid that had been committed for a year away. There's always a lot of movement and sometimes the "I should take a look at these schools" peeps in and the kid ends up getting sold on some crazy thing and flips. I hate that stuff. The reason I don't worry about McQuitty is because he is from Missouri and already has major offers he turned down to come here. He wanted to stay close to home and already had all the big offers close to home and visited those programs before choosing us. Same with Keyshawn and Gebbia. They visited tons of schools and had the bama and top SEC/PAC 12 offers before they committed to us. They saw all the big schools and then made their choice. Allen grew up a Huskers fan and it was his dream to play for Nebraska so I'm not worried about him. It's mainly the Florida LB Hampton.
  3. So how is this different than any other year? Because we never have this many long distance commits this far out from signing day to hold on to.
  4. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/small-wide-receivers-making-big-impact-across-nfl-090051591--nfl.html
  5. Miami wasn't one of his top schools. It seems like he's using visits to get out and see places for free more than he is to seriously consider going to some of these schools. In all reality it's down to Ohio State, Nebraska, UCLA, and Stanford. That's it.
  6. This guy seems to look the part as well. He seems pretty underrated to me. A lot of the 300lb guys at the high school level carry a lot of bad weight and succeed because they are bigger than everyone else and can push ppl around. They don't necessarily do that well at the next level and are hard to project. I like is going after a kid like this who is 260/270 and who shows a lot of strength, quick fire off the line, and a high motor. He seems to have good pad level and a relentless pursuit to the whistle which are what will help him at that next level. If he misses, he doesn't lay on the ground, he quickly gets up and goes and gets his guy down. I love the hustle here. I bet his weight is right about 260 or 270. His HS tape reminds me a bit of ol' Maliek Collins. In how explosive he is, and how well he can use great leverage to knock blockers off their path. Only difference in film is Thomas is playing much better competition, so he isnt quite as dominant as Maliek was in his film. I thought the same thing. He can already bench 350 and squat 530 and he's a JR in high school. Looking at the pic he posted with him and Parella on the field together, he looks very firm and fit, not any bad weight on him. I really like the potential this kid has.
  7. I've been thinking the same thing. I believe we do have 1 open scholarship as we sit at 84 going into the fall. Traditionally they have liked to award 1 or 2 to walkons, but we could also go after a transfer C or a transfer/Juco DT. If you look at Kevin Maurice, Carlos Davis, Khalil Davis, Mick Stoltenberg, and Peyton Newell... We have the bodies and the talent on paper to have depth and aren't necessarily unbalanced scholarship wise at this position. In the past we just had a lot of injuries at DT and a lot of recruiting momentum with Suh so we took bunches of them. We had too many allocated at DT when Banker got here, partially because he moved Stoltenberg over and partially because Pelini had injury proneness at that position and would have 2-3 out injured. But we have guys on the team who have the size and ability to be great, they just need good coaching, experience and development (which we have now). Look at the rankings of our guys coming out of high school. I particularly remember Newell being one we beat a lot of huge name programs out for. He is the one I'm waiting to have a monster season. I think under pelini the 2 deep got practice and the rest just didn't get the coaching or the reps. That left guys like Newell being underdeveloped. Stoltenberg needed the time to gain the weight and learn the defense. I loved seeing how Parella had him on the field participating in some capacity despite his injury. He was taking mental reps and could be insanely good in a couple of years. All this to say, I don't think we are as thin as we feel we are here. We've got 5 guys. Ideally you'd like to have 6-7 because chances are 2-3 will be injured at some point, but we can play with 5 if we lose 1 or 2 to injury. The other thing is we have 4 returning next year who are underclassmen so I think the reason the staff is saying take 2 in 2017 is because that would give us 6 guys with none graduating in the next couple of years. Khalil Davis ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (Offers: Arizona St, Arkansas, Indiana, Kansas, Kansas St, Missouri, NC St, Oregon, TCU) Carlos Davis ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5.7 (Offers: Arizona St, Arkansas, Indiana, Kansas, Kansas St, Missouri, NC St, Oregon, TCU) Peyton Newell ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5.7 (Offers: Arizona, Arizona St, Arkansas, Baylor, BYU, Cal, Clemson, Colorado, Duke, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Iowa St, Kansas, Kansas State, Michigan St, Missouri, NC St, Northwestern, Oklahoma, Oklahoma St, Penn St, Purdue, South Carolina, Syracuse, TCU, Tulsa, UCLA, USC, Vanderbilt, West Virginia, Wisconsin) Kevin Maurice ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5.7 (Offers: Boston College, Memphis, Navy, NC St) Mick Stoltenberg ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5.6 (Offers: Army, Tulsa, Penn)
  8. I love that we are getting all these commitments from some top guys on our board and that we are getting them early. What terrifies me though, is that there is so much time between now and signing day... A lot can happen. This peer recruiting movement is strong right now, but can it sustain itself for 10mo after the newness and excitement wears off? What happens when big schools they never thought they would get offers from come in in November? I'm not worried about KJJ or Gebbia or Mcquitty. They have made their visits and had the biggest offers and already checked out enough schools to know..., but the LB Hampton... Let's say Miami or Florida or Georgia or Florida state offer... There's a good chance he's going to visit and there's a good chance we lose him. Or what about A&M offering our OT commit and getting in his ear about playing in the SEC and staying close to home? I fear a few of these guys have been using us as place holders because we are the best offer at this time and they like us.

  10. Measured at 6'1.5" at Nike OpenStanley Is about 6'1" but he is very physical. He doesn't have the height but he has the bulky build that can play physical... I think that's what ppl mean when they say Lewis is a "big physical" guy. Right, and I 100%. But what I hear when people say that is that we want the true 6'3-6'4 height we are missing. Well we have a few on the board who fit that bill, and I do agree we need 1-2 big boys. They may be trying to land one of these 6'3"- 6'4" dudes. Jhamon Ausbon - From IMG in Florida. Tarik Black - From Connecticut Tyler Johnson - from Arizona Bryce Gilbert - from Arizona but is already 6'3" 230 so could project to a TE.
  11. what films were you watching? Hahaha! That's what I get for trying to post from my phone and missing letters.
  12. I don't know if this has been posted yet, but my gosh look at the lose hips, quick feet, hand eye coordination, and speed and athleticism of this guy. I've never seen a guy move his feet so quick and precisely as Darnay. Watch how the receiver breaks on him and gets a little separation and he comes back and makes plays on the ball. He's a fast thinker and his body reacts very quickly. He could be an immediate starter for us and a lock down corner from day one. I'm also super impressed with his ability as a punt/kick returner and his wide receiver ability.

  14. So, we'll just ignore the whole concept of recruiting players that fit our scheme? And why does recruiting a great athlete (again we are assuming that as it appears you think this is a great recruit) not fit into our 'scheme' whatever that means. The scheme is to recruit great football players to Nebraska and make them better and win lots of games and we all are happy, correct? Gee whiz folks. If he can't play QB, then he might be a good player elsewhere. He is a great athlete. He apparently wants to come to Lincoln, atleast to visit. Why would you not want him?Do you not remember the Joe daily: Callahan experiment. You don't just recruit great athletes and force it. If he doesn't fit our scheme.... Don't try to force a square peg in a round hole. Just recruiting great athletes doesn't work. Has to fit what you want to do as a team..... This isnt a video game Exactly! And this kid has a Johnny Manziel personality. He's a PR nightmare waiting to happen. He's not the high character kid you want as the face of your team.
  15. This kid is not someone I'd want as the leader and public figurehead of my program. He may be a good football player but I already see signs of some character issues and immaturity. At a school like Nebraska we need a good kid and a good football player.
  16. My concern with these guys is the hype is there right now. Commitments like KJJ are fresh and recruiting like crazy. But are they going to be able to stay that fresh in ppl's minds over the next 10mo. Most these recruits may only make it back one more time before signing day. They will probably go take OV's to major schools and may come away with some of those major programs too. I just hope we can sustain this, it's a long period of time and kids tend to swing around based on fresh visits to major places.
  17. We would take Lindsey, Calvin, and Lewis. Bell and Hawkins are plan B guys based on what I've seen.
  18. Can you imagine a backfield with Lamar Jackson, Demmodore Lenoir, Darnay Holmes, and Marquel Dismuke? The you have JoJo Domann, Antonio Reed, Aaron Williams, Greg Simmons, Mohammed Barry, Pernell Jefferson, Quayshon Alexander. The davis twins in the middle. We just need some D-Linemen!
  19. Checked the flight logs? #dedication #borderline stocker You gonna go to Eppley and stand outside the terminal with calibraska signs all day??
  20. I saw some buzz about these 2 on Twitter. Scout hinted they were gonna make the game tomorrow but I never saw for sure. Do you know?
  21. Is Tanner Lee not going to make the game? He was here Thursday night for practice.
  22. I know I'm a little bias, but how does any WR prospect say no to this guy? My favorite part is he actually put on a lab coat and a stethoscope lol
  23. Rivals has confirmed DT from Mustang, OK Deontre Thomas will be at the spring game. He is a 3* player with a Nebraska offer.
  24. What if he waits and doesn't get a bump in ratings? Then we settle with the "he had offers from.... Big schools and he chose us" talk. And we are happy we got a good one.
