  1. I hope he is getting tired of it because really he has no need to wait till signing day. Once he knows he should sign, wherever that is. Hopefully he is N, but if not he needs to do whats right for him. I think with him tiring of it all that really puts us in a good position because we have a reputation of not being pushy and telling kids to take their time and do what's right.
  2. Kid is fast. Has great football speed. I don't really care about 40 times, I look at on the field speed. He reads quickly and has great burst.
  3. I would think that we might be able to pick up maye 3 or 4 before the season with all of the camps/summer visits going on. I'm really not sure after that because I dono't know how many the coaches are looking to take in this class. Before some attrition, wasn't the number pretty low (15 or 16)? If 17 is the magic number, I'd say 9 or 10 when the season starts, maybe 2 or 3 mid-level guys during the season and then between 4-6 "high profile, wait until signing day" types of guys to round the class out, again though, it all depends on how many the coaches are looking to take. This class is supposed to be bigger than last year. We have at least 21 scholarship seniors and we have that left over scholarship from this year (we are at 84 instead of the 85 limit). So that makes 22 right there, plus we may lose a couple. I would say we are taking 23. They have already said they want 5 OL, 4 DL, 2 RB, 2 QB, and 3 WR. Add in our high need at DB (probably 4) and 1-2 LB. That puts us at 22. Expect an athlete somewhere and of course numbers change if the right guys want N we will let them be N. By the season I think we are at 10. I think Davie is a good guess for us to get and Fisher if he is offered (I bet they look at his knee when he camps). I see us getting A. Green whenever he decides since he may not wait to signing day now. I think another 2 DL, the OL, 2 wr, 1 rb, and the other QB are N during the season. DB's are hard to project at this point, lots of guys like us, but they keep changing commitment times. I would say one more DB before season, 1 during, and 1 after. Edit: Changed the A. Green from signing day to whenever he decides due to new updates.
  4. So the La Mirada game you went to you didn't see one D1 prospect, but they had 1 guy sign D-1 last year and 5 guys with offers this year? But you are saying they had no D1 talent. Obviously they lost the game you were at, but won 13 others and were the champs of their league. Now I know it is not the top conference in California, but the offers they have and the wins they have must mean something. I'm sorry, but once again I am glad you are not scouting for us.
  5. It's really nice to see us getting the respect we deserve on the recruiting trail!
  6. There must be NCAA sanctions against this!
  7. Sigh. We're not only taking players that fit through certain shaped cookie cutters. That's a bit crazy. We need our QBs to be able to execute the offense. The dual threat guys bring that extra dimension, and IF the passing part clicks, then it will work out well with them. Nonetheless, their speed is a secondary quality. We're looking for quarterbacks who have the potential in their arm. Some are fast, but some are not. People just have no faith at all in Watson...which is fair, but this particular argument IMO is ridiculous, and it's been repeated far too many times. Look at Texas with McCoy and Gilbert. Or OSU going from Boeckman to Pryor. Are they having an offensive identity crisis? Are they transitioning to a fast-QBs only system? No - it's just they got this kid that happens to be big and strong and fast, and they're going to make him a QB for them. If speed is a secondary quality, and we are pass-first offense...why aren't we concentrating more heavily on pro-style QB's? We don't have a good track record of improving questionable passers. If that's how it's going to be we need to start out with a more polished product than what we've recruited the last 3 years. I look for us to get to a point where we have 20-25 pass attempts a game max. Not exactly the type of environment a pro-style QB is going to thrive in. Even the AZ game, Lee was all over the field. I'd argue OSU is having an offensive identity crisis when it comes to the QB position. Pryor comes out throwing the first part of the season, then has a bad game against Purdue and doesn't throw over 17 passes in a game until the bowl game where he has a breakout performance with 37 pass attempts. They aren't sure what they want to do w/ him. And Texas is Texas. There is so much tallent around Gilbert that it doesn't matter what he does. I think we take the players we think are best at any given position. We don't say we only want dual-threat QBS, speedy running backs, and big physical recievers. Instead we offer the best of the best who we think we can use and then tweak our play calling to fit the personnel. That is what most programs do. We can't afford to put ourselves in a box and say we are not going to vary from it. Even Osborne worked with what he had and altered his play calling according to his players. Obviously you stay in your philosophy and scheme, but you can always make changes.

We don't need top passers... Go back to the I running the Option with full back trap! I better add
  9. Just for clarification, these are our offers in the Big Ten region, Big East region, etc?? Yes No way. You're saying that we've made 33 offers in the ACC/SEC area, and only 10 in OK, MO, IA, KS and NEBRASKA?? And we've made over 100 offers for 2011? Or does "our" offers means something other the Nebraska Huskers? These have got to be the number of offers that all schools in these conferences have made, with no bearing on where the kids are from. Very little relevance to the conversation except that we can see that Texas cherry picks some very good talent early, though the leave those who want to go elsewhere, are good enough to make a difference, or that Texas has misjudged. These are the offers for all the kids we are going after. We being Nebraska. How is it hard to believe we have offered more players from the very fertile ACC/SEC area than from the not very fertile Non-Texas Big XII area? As has been stated multiple times we recruit nationally.
  10. The kid is used as an athlete by a school who focuses largely on running, so they give the ball to the #1 running back most plays. He is used as a weapon to surprise people. Also his d stats are not amazing because teams steer away from him. Oh and the guy who tackled him at the end of the long run (#81 for Ralston) was Dwight Smith. He is a state qualifying track athlete 3 years in a row and a three sport star. He has a full ride scholarship for basketball at Colorado state and he is 6'-4" which helps with his top end speed, thus catching davies at the last second. Know your facts before calling out a kid you don't have any knowledge on. One last thing, you claim Crick was an example of great stats in a lesser division. He was C-1 (a division under Davies) and his stats as a senior were: 11 games 9 rushes 66 yds 7.3 ypc 15 receptions 284 yds 18.9 ypc 4 TDs 31 solo tackles 37 assisted 68 total By your standards we should never have taken him because he did not dominate against lesser quality opponents. Man I wish you were the coach of our football team!
  11. Very quick DE. Gets up field and on a lot of plays runs down the qb. Would like to see some of his strength, but he has the speed and moves. Get him here, RS for a year to bulk up and he will contribute.
  12. Rivals has something up saying he will graduate this August??? What is going on? Are we still on him?
  13. Hopefully that is a good thing for us then.
  14. Ok thats enough debate on religion, if you want to debate it pm me or we can put a topic elsewhere. The kid looks like he will be a stud. Quick step and pretty strong for his age.
  15. It's wrong because Brown does not have "faith in religion" Also the church of Latter Day Saints and christianity are very different religions. However Ron Brown doesn't consider himself "religious" or "spiritual" or whatever you want to call it. He has a relationship with Jesus Christ. If he uses that to recruit I think that is great. You always want to connect with recruits (like Sanders with Cooper), but this is not a case of that at all. He is head recruiter because he is the head recruiter for Utah.
  16. There is so much wrong with that last statement I'm not even going to start, but I guarantee Brown wouldn't really like it either. What's so wrong about that last statement. Ron Brown is a very religious person and I'm sure that'll give the two (Brown and Hinds) something to talk about. Maybe because Mormons and Christians don't exactly see eye to eye . . . Brown does not have faith in religion. He has faith in God. He has a relationship with God. I am merely stating that the bolded part only is incorrect and in many ways. Saying he has faith in religion is not at all what he has. If this kid is a LDS kid he and Brown won't really have much in common (in the belief aspect) because their beliefs are very different. Maybe the fact Brown has a strong faith in something is why they sent him because they have that in common, but Brown would not go because their faiths are similar, because they aren't. Of course it could be because Brown is head recruiter for the state of Utah. That always makes it easy to decide who recruits where. LINK
  17. There is so much wrong with that last statement I'm not even going to start, but I guarantee Brown wouldn't really like it either.
  18. whoa.... that wasnt a very rosey picture you just painted..... i dont think that USC is this mythical beast that once you enter through the door you are theirs..... they have a lot of flaws and if family is soo important to the grimbles maybe they will be able to see the flakes of gold making all the rusty shiet being thrown at them....... still feel positive though I'm hoping for it!! I hope i'm wrong... A little pessimistic aren't you?? He and his dad have gushed about Nebraska. Plus he has stated he is tired of being so and so's cousin or family. If he goes to USC he will be Xavier Grimbles cousin playing there where if he is here he is the only Grimble. He loves Suh. He loves the family style of Bo and our team. He loves the competition. If this weekend goes amazing there I will be less hopeful, but even a good weekend and I think we are still ahead.
  19. I'm going to guess he got tired of waiting. He is a good back and didn't want to wait since it looks like both Green and Brown will wait for a while.
  20. Jalen and his dad both said that he's going to make his decision on his birthday on Aug 10th post #31 from th rivals teaser says he will make a decision in about two weeks after visiting USC. Hopefully he will not wait until August I dont think that bodes well for NU. Just gives Rick Neuweasel and Lame Kiffin more time to use their used car salesman approach on Jalen. I had heard numerous times he would be deciding a week or two after USC visit as well. I heard originally it would be august, but then it changed. Has it changed back?
  21. Kid looks impressive. The first to runs on the vid are a great way to start. He is a little tall (not too bad), but that actually gives him long strides so his top end speed is higher. If he's in a foot race he will win 9/10 times. Really needs to work on lowering his running height. Since he is tall that will hurt him in D-1, but if he can lower his pad level until he is in the open and can put on full throttle he will have more success.
  22. My thinking is if we lose him, we lose him. There are plenty of 'big time' schools that take in players that are not good enough for us. Should we match every offer that KU or CU throws out? The only reason for that kind of sentiment is he's an in-state kid, which is great, and I can see the need for good ties with in-state schools, but I don't think we can lower the talent standards for guys just because they are in-state and we want to secure a certain number of in-state guys on the roster. I would have to agree. We want to keep the quality in state talent, but we have room for one more OT in this class and that is probably the last OL so we need to get a great kid. That may mean we don't offer this kid. If we don't have anyone by mid-end of the season maybe he gets an offer then. Or if he comes in and just does phenomenal at camp, but really I would rather have Trai Turner than this kid.
  23. These are non-written verbal offers. Basically the coaches say hey we have a scholarship ready for you and will offer you in September.
  24. We are recruiting John Lynch... Is that legal?
  25. I still disagree with you 100%. Your original question was "Is Texas recruiting overrated?" And the answer is NO, absolutely not. In 2008 and 2009, we got 8 kids from Texas each year. That means this fall the 2008 class will be redshirt sophomores. All kids take time to develop. You will eat your words year after year as long as we keep recruiting the state. Like I said before, we haven't had many Texas stars lately b/c Coach BC didn't recruit the state. Bo's first class almost entirely redshirted and are now just getting ready to even break the depth chart. Texas recruiting is not overrated at all....not even a little, not in the most minuscule way possible. I hear a lot of hyperbole, a bunch of excuses, and still not a starter on the team from Texas. Maybe someday? Really... I should hope so... We have 22 scholarship athletes from Texas. We only have 85 scholarships (thats 25% of our scholarships). No other state has a worse record when it comes to scholarship athletes on roster vs. starters. I'm just stating the facts. Just the shear numbers seem to demand that somebody could crack the starting line-up from Texas. We have more Nebraska walk-ons starting than Texas athletes. I'll take 22 extra scholarship athletes from the Mid-West any day; of course, I'm hardly a Texas apologist. So we have 22 scholarship athletes from Texas, but 16 were recruited in 2008 and 2009 which means as Sker has already said, they are redshirt Sophomores or younger. So if you take them out that is only 6 Juniors/Seniors from Texas. Next year you will see more Texas kids playing, but the year after and beyond you will see those Texas kids really contributing a lot and starting at many positions.
