  1. In light of those comments and in looking at those remaining from Bo Pelini's previous staff, I can't imagine how Ron Brown is not retained under Mike Riley. I think Coach Brown would continue to be an excellent assistant for Nebraska as he has been for the past 20 plus years. He would also be a perfect bridge between the old staff & new staff. So who all do you want to see on the next Cornhusker football staff? Garrison--OL Warren--DB Brown--RB Fairly sure he's bringing in his WR from OSU. Torn on Ed, he's a bit gruff, but he's an excellent coach and recruiter. Not sure about the 'treats people the right way' part. He wants a full time ST coach, Baron Miles lobbied to come back when the DB coaching position opened up, he would be a candidate for that role, IMO. Frost--QB So that would leave LB and DL (if Ed isn't coming) I'm not versed enough in position coaches to state any other person. With my list, we do have a nice blend of former 'Huskers to help instill the meaning of being a Husker, some outstanding recruiters and coaches, and really some outstanding men that will help mold these boys into great men. Now we're demoting Frost to QB coach? He must really love Nebraska
  2. Let me say that I agree about Warren and Brown...and maybe even Orgeron. However this insistence with Frost at OC has got to end. Yes, he was a great player for us. Yes he is from Nebraska. But let's give the guy a few years with players he has developed himself before we decide he's an excellent coordinator. Let's not forget that Oregon's former offensive coordinator is now the head coach...so how much does Frost really have to do with the offense or the play calling? I'm not sure. I do know that it was clear that Solich wasn't primarily responsible for the Husker offense, and this was evident once Osborne left. And by the way....there is nothing to indicate Frost would leave to make a lateral move just because he's from Nebraska.
  3. I think a lot of the same people that are livid over this hire are the ones that thought Tressel with an OC of Scott Frost and DC of Will Muschamp was a foregone conclusion. I had the same WTF moment that everyone else did when the hire was announced, but I've warmed to it. The guy is very well respected across the board, it sounds like the AD is going to shell out some serious dough for assistants ...and early returns on recruiting seem to indicate we won't have much attrition. So what really happened here? 1). Wanted an attitude change with our head coach. Check. 2). Wanted all of Bo's coordinators fired. Check. 3). Wanted to keep the recruiting class intact. Looks to be a check here so far. Whether we kept Bo or not...everyone I see wanted these things to happen, and now they have. I for one want to see what this guy can do. What is everyone worried about? That we might get our $hit pushed in by good teams? We might not win a conference title? Keeping pelini here was a much firmer guarantee that both those realities would continue.
  4. Bo got us about that far as well, it was that next hump that he couldn't get us over. I have no opinion on McElwain one way or the other - but the only thing he's proven is that he can turn a "loser" football team into a competitive one. For the most part, we've already got one of those. Maybe he gets us 1 more win a year? Or can he get us 2-3? I don't think there's any proof that he can get us 2-3. I don't know what you're expecting....Saban or Urban? But neither is coming here. If we're a 9-10 win team now...an extra win or two makes us conference champions and title contenders. There are no guarantees, but McElwain is in our wheelhouse and is a proven head coach with an ability to win at a school with atrocious facilities and fan support. He may not be your first choice, but he is a qualified candidate.
  5. I think most that are honest would say that the sideline antics would've been a colorful detail in Bo Pelini's coaching style had we won a couple conference titles to date. Watching the team melt down in big games like clockwork....undisciplined play and poor fundamentals....things we could all see with our own eyes...is really the only factor in this decision.
  6. I vote none of them transfer due to the coaching change. Agreed. This is always the fear and it seems there are usually very few players that leave after a coaching change. Obviously the buzzards have circled our 'commits' and are about to have their pick of our 2015 class...which is always the case.
  7. Yeah, like what has Bell ever done for this team more than we t-shirt fans have accomplished? Has Kenny even SEEN our post counts? Some of these rants came while many of us were typing injured, yet we manned up. The nerve! It is interesting how much flak KB takes for being a bit more candid than maybe some would care for. 4 year starter did nothing but make big time catches, blocked like a beast, played through injury, and never had a single off the field issue.....and the way people talk about him here you'd think he was the cancer of all cancers in the program.
  8. The players are upset. I wouldn't read too much into what they're saying right now. These are young emotional guys.
  9. Wow. Patterson is 54. You think he'd leave a program where he already has a chance to win a title, to come to a place where recruiting is more difficult and he has to start over with a new staff, with a 'head coach in waiting' offensive coordinator looking over his shoulder? And muschamp as DC? Good idea. We could also think about raising Knute Rockne's corpse, with 50 yr old tom Osborne as offensive coordinator and give Bill Belichek a look as DC. wow, if your going to fire a coach that averages 9 wins a year at least set your goals high for a good hire. Patterson could recruit Texas yet. Yes he might consider it. You think OU and Texas are going to be lame ducks for long in the Big 12. TCU will never exceed what they end up with this year. That conference is built for OU and Texas to control, not TCU. Yeah, I think Patterson would leave if its the right fit. Nebraska could be that fit. I don't care if Frost comes back here, just liked the way it sounded! Might as well bring back Turner Gill with Frost......hows that......any better!!! While it's ok to put together your fantasy coaching staff, I just think it's a worthy exercise to ask what motivation a coach would have to come here, and likewise coordinators. There are 3 reasons a coach would take a new position: 1) more $$$$$ 2) higher profile..either the program itself or his role 3) roots with the program.
  10. Wow. Patterson is 54. 11. Frost is already an OC, at a school known for having a top notch offense. Why would he take a lateral (at best) position.
  12. McElwain is our guy, I think. No way we get Mora, Patterson, or Shaw
  13. Jesus....almost over threw wide open Ameer. But good drive TA. Gotta give credit.
  14. Oh be careful with pressuring Armstrong. He can take it to that house according to Millen
  15. Man. Kalu fell down. That was our only chance of scoring. Only hope now is that Armstrong's next pick comes with no time for Iowa to score.
  16. Good thing we got Armstrong back in there. Fyfe couldn't have thrown such a beautiful interception.
