  1. Actually, a conspiracy theory I had is this was a ploy/smokescreen to get Nebraska out of the Big 12. I think Texas realized Nebraska would never agree to the things UT wanted for the betterment of their university and not the conference. Have Nebraska leave, makes life a little easier for UT. But this is just a conspiracy theory I have running thru my head. Either way, it was time for NU to move on to bigger and better things. I would like to think people are somewhat competent and that this was a series of calcuated risks. This drill was to get more TV money. But the arm twisting needed to be believable. And unless at least one team left the needle wouldn't move. Texas (Big XII) knew Colorado would jump if given half a chance. Missouri was unhappy and Nebraska was a risk, but acceptable. What were the vote for Jerryworld and the ulitmatum but a negotiating tactics. Intended to PO MU and NU. Then flirt with PAC-10, Big 10 and SEC but without a good fit in any of them. The Texas League gets a new TV contract and can add to grateful programs. TCU? Houston? UT was always going to win - never a doubt. They are just reforming the SWC. But did Nebraska win as well? You bet yer ass.
  2. I'm shocked. Not Texas. They are our buddies - our pals. Loyal to the end. They just gave us an ultimatum because they were already on board. "So are they all, all honorable men."
  3. Was this the whole point of all recent garbage? To get Fox to renegotiate?
  4. Wait a tick. Memorial Stadium seats 81K - Lambeau has 73K. Does it have to be in an NFL stadium? Also, would love to see the game played on an 'as needed' basis. If a team has a 12-0 record and the next best team has a 10-2 record. Skip it. 12-0 team wins the Big Ten.
  5. Agreed there is no obvious answer. And the dishwasher thing - not good. Better to start firebeebe.com - then have a beer.
  6. so did everyone blaming NU for the big 12's demise. Who knew? Twelve minus two does not equal zero. Weird. I'm sure there will be a wave of apologies forthcoming...no? Oh well.
  7. Well guys, I really appreciate your words in this regard. Honestly, I don't think folks down this way had any more regard for the Big 12 than did a lot of folks up your way. Many of us (like me) are still mad about the breakup of the old SWC. And I've got to tell you it was because there wasn't really any respect or love for the Big 12 that Texas took the attitude that it was simply going to get all it could out of it and to heck with everyone and everything else. Frankly, I really enjoyed playing you guys for a hundred reasons, but anyone else outside of OU, well, I couldn't give a hoot about. Don't get me wrong, I think Kansas, Missouri, etc., are all fine institutions in their own right but we had no history with them...no tradition...no nuthin'. The apparent probability that A&M will bolt for the SEC has everyone down here more than a bit dumbfounded. As far as we can tell, they're really cutting off their nose to spite their face. And it's all because of Gene Stallings. Unlike the tenuous associations we had with many Big 12 schools, there is 100 years of blood, both good and bad, between Texas and Texas A&M. We've fought together, laughed together and mourned together for more than a century. If they're willing to toss that away to go bet beat up in the SEC, then let 'em. But God....this hurts. Mike, do you think the Big 12-lite has a shot? http://texas.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1093803 From what your are saying about the possible loss of A&M - it is a real wake up call for the remaining teams. The hail mary just might work.
  8. Per Tank http://twitter.com/frankthetank111/status/16080847121 and Chip http://texas.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1093803 Big 12 (now 10) may, may survive. By dropping the title game, creating tv networks and some form of revenue sharing. Oh and all future games will now be 59:59 instead of 60 minutes (that's a joke). A couple comments the form of questions: So who broke up the conference? Well at this point - nobody. In the end - the ultimatum, the finger pointing, etc. was just the usual bluster and intimidation. Apologies are in order but I know how things work. So has learned to play nice Texas? Or did KU, KSU, MU and ISU all grovel enough?
  9. Yeah I got the impression he just wanted Suh to start badmouthing the Big 10. Suh told him like 4 times that he was loyal to NU and not a conference. Four and half minutes of the same questions - repeated - over and over. Annoying. Suh did handle it well.
  10. Barry Alvarez was instrumental (an educated guess) in the move for Nebraska. Both as an example and with his influence. IMHO, Wisconsin is in the running to be The Rival. Like a long lost brother? Same style, same colors, etc. I am hoping for an NU-OU type of rivaly. Think it could happen? Plus Madison is a great town.
  11. Great point - didn't see that until you pointed it out. I'm sure they won't all pan out - but 2011 will be great. What will it be a "Hello Tour"?
  12. Indeed... It will be.... GLORIOUS! ...and I'll buy the first round....of Lone Star Beer! How about Shiner?
  13. Watching live on the BigTenNetwork.com - first time of many to be sure. Very cool and thanks for the link.
  14. Woo hooo! June 11, 2010 Park Ridge, Ill.-- The Big Ten Council of Presidents/Chancellors (COP/C) announced unanimous approval today for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) to join the Big Ten Conference effective July 1, 2011, with competition to begin in all sports for the 2011-12 academic year. UNL will also seek admission into the Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC), which can occur on or before July 1, 2011. http://www.bigten.org/genrel/061110aab.html A great day!
  15. Love to see you guys in the Big 10. Won't happen, but it would be great.
  16. Per Frank - ND cancels 2013 game w/Army. http://twitter.com/frankthetank111/status/15953437897 Interesting.
  17. He's always been able to do that...we've just never been in a huddle with Dr. Tom.
  18. This is a great press conference - they are addressing a huge number of concerns in detail. A great day.
  19. Transferring juniors, seniors can play - w/o penalty... http://sports.espn.go.com/los-angeles/ncf/news/story?id=5275644 How about a WR or even a QB? Ronald Johnson? Jr. from MI...
  20. Also WI thinks it is the Big Red team...this is gonna be fun.
  21. What if the remaining Bix XII teams keep the conference alive - to preserve the BCS bid? The BCS bid could be very powerful. They could add from the Big East and MWC plus Boise State. East ISU MU KSU KU Baylor TCU Cinci Louisville West CSU AF Boise BYU SDSU NM WY UT You could mix and match with - WVa, UConn, Pitt and South Florida.
  22. On a political level (as well as football) wouldn't it make more sense to break up the Texas schools? They could each dominate their own conference and meet in title games. TT to PAC-10 w/OSU and CU. - Seems like the Tech offense would fit well there. Baylor stays in in the Mountain West/Big XII (they aren't going to the PAC-10, right?) - Sort of 'saves' the Big XII. The MWC could joint the remaining 5 Big XII teams, keeping the BCS invite. A&M (w/OU) to the SEC Texas to Big 10 Diversification would work better than what they had in the Big XII. Kind of a 'take over the world' approach.
