  1. No offense, but if you think that I don't know where we can even begin our conversation. Both of what people refer to those defenses as can be run in so many alignments that they become almost indistinguishable, which is why I always refer to fronts, alignments, and coverages instead. Defensive football has advanced well beyond such generic terms. If you want to say a guy is good as a 5 tech, but not as a 7 or wide 9, I'll buy that. But that's not specific to either of those generic descriptors. Diaco has used a lot of 5 tech so far....but so did Bo.
  2. It's almost like we forgot we play them this week.
  3. Do I want Nebraska to play like they are supposed to? Yes Do I think Mike Riley is the guy to do it? No Have I ever thought he was the guy to do it? No Do I care if I'm wrong? No. My perfect record was spoiled a long, long time ago.
  4. History doesn't correlate with this at all. Ties to a program get your name on the radar, they shouldn't be any more important than that. You want people that fit, but you're casting too small of a net if you think that means they must have come from the program.
  5. Thats the thing for me, too. I don't mind gambling, because that's what coaching searches are. There is no rhyme or reason sometimes for the results we see, based on the information available at the time of hire. Bill Walsh is a wierd example of this. The guy is arguably the greatest NFL coach of all time, comes back to Stanford, where he had success before, has a great first season then the wheels fall off. Eventually he goes back to the 49ers to help draft a QB. This is the guy that drafted Montana, surely he has the resume for this. Drafts 2 QBs in the class of Brady. Now, you're saying "everyone missed on Brady". True, but no one else drafted Giovanni Carmazzi.
  6. Experience is a strange thing, though. It's the only thing I know of that you can't get without already having it. It's also why I posted that vid in another thread. How does a head coach handle such a unique event? I think that's very telling when trying to answer this question when you don't have a big resume to lend trust.
  7. Not unless you're looking at a different game tape than I am.
  8. This gets overstated. The position group that has the most change is the defensive line, and they've easily been the best group on the defense, and one of the more consistent position groups on the entire team. Coverage is coverage. Maintaining your gap discipline, playing contain....these are universal concepts. Nebraska didn't reinvent what it means to play defense.
  9. I think the video is worth watching, especially to the folks that want more context on why this guy might be a candidate despite his lack of experience. This is certainly an unique experience UCF is going through, and to see how a head coach handles his schedule being turned upside down is enlightening. We don't get to see this side of coaches very often.
  10. I honestly don't care about record. Execute and wins take care of themselves. Nebraska is is no where near executing properly right now. That's what really matters.
  11. Shouldn't we let Diaco get throttled by the rest of our schedule before extending him?
  12. You're trying to jumpstart the search over other teams. Not only that, but the recruiting periods and bowls make the end of the season messy and hectic.
  13. https://ucf.rivals.com/news/scott-frost-press-conference-maryland-week Watch this press conference prior to the Maryland game. Even at Oregon he spoke like this, not just like a coach, but like a head coach. Great demeanor, understands the media's role. Honest, humble, and forthright. These are things that are common to other press conferences he's had over the years, but this one is of course different because of Irma's tremendous impact on that program. Notice his priorities in life, even in the already stressful life of a college coach. If you want a guy that represents Nebraska and all of those intangibles we like to say collegiate athletics are about...
  14. If he loses to Rutgers, he may as well retire to his place of choice. You can't lose to a team as horrible as Rutgers following the start of this season and survive.
  15. Someone has at least strong opinions on his fate, because any AD is going to be very quick to ask if he's hiring a new football coach, and someone has to give that answer.
  16. I'm more interested in the fact it's a Thursday, rather than it being September. Because if this were Monday, every question to Riley is about whether he's next. Thursday, however, means he doesn't really face that until after a game against a weak opponent.....and an impressive performance would defray a lot of those questions.
  17. He may not make it much longer as OC. I'm cheering for the guy, but this job is very stressful. Long hours, little sleep. Under normal people conditions he's managed his condition, but these aren't normal conditions.
  18. This is all supposed to be in spoilers. I promised the poor guy.
  19. If you've ever met anyone from Florida, ever, you didn't need to read this article.
  20. I wouldnt really say that. They just don't have the talent to really get to the QB. But they are scrappy, rally to the ball well, fight hard to get off blocks, and they're not afraid to roll their safeties down. They have a lot of admirable qualities I wish Nebraska had right now.
