  1. Three things: 1. Our pitchers arms seemingly have came alive and I find myself wondering what Anderson's weekend rotation will be. Will Yost be our Friday starter or do we use last weekends. My thoughts are that we should keep last weekends rotation. Lets give it time to see if it works. 2. The bats; They were given a pass last weekend as they were facing a tremendous pitching staff. This weekend however isn't much different. The staff is nearly as capable as last weekends and... they are on a winning streak. Add in this weekends weather should be much warmer and suddenly we have the same magnitude of competition facing us. Hopefully our players accept the challenge much the same way the pitching staff did last week. Come on boys, the time to hit has arrived. 3. The home stand. This home stand makes (or breaks) the team. This is "our" home and nobody should walk into this ballpark and "expect" to win a series. Teams hated to visit Lincoln in the Van Horn era. Time for teams to loath Lincoln trips again. It begins with the boys having that "it" factor and ends with the presence of a fan base that weighs heavily on the opposing team. I for one will try to do my part while attending Friday's and Saturday's games. Hope 3500 others join me. Prediction: Friday - Huskers win Saturday - Fresno State win Sunday - Fresno State win (until the skers show we can hit its nearly impossible to project a series win against a top 20 caliber team)
  2. Huskers Win!!! HUGE momentum builder... Fresno State in next weekend..... HUGE chance to enter Big 12 play on a hot streak 3 things I like: Focus... the players had it. Outside of Farmer's error in Friday's game (one many players would make so not casting stones here) our boys never faltered. Rather, they stayed focused, trusted the pitching staff and took the series. Boys are making me proud! Pitching... the one element of the team I have been critical of. Nothing like eating crow. These boys arms woke up big time and surprised everyone and... they did it in near freezing temps where injury can happen. I hope these boys continue to make me eat crow all year. Still have concerns but will admit I was pleasantly surprised this weekend. Guts... Sundays game started off horrible. Walks, errors, 3 runs scored against us and then... 3 and out for the good guys. Enter our future stars and suddenly our players start gradually fighting back. Lucky catch here, double play there.. etc. and finally, we chase the starter. Who will admit that a 3 run 9th was even a possibility against the rank 5 team? Our boys focused and they believed and through guts and determination, they give us reason to believe. Time for this ballpark and those who bleed red to begin believing in a group of boys that show a type of courage that so many of us wish we had. Game won, Series Win, celebration begins. Now lets hope the celebrations continue. Lastly, I again want to say welcome home Erstad, welcome home!
  3. I'll admit the husker pitching staff is surprising me. Where was this last weekend? I still have my doubts about our pitching coach and... earlier I commented that Anderson' only smart move was asking Erstad to return. After Friday and Saturday games, even though we aren't scoring, I stand firm in my belief that Erstad is the guy. The batters are facing next level talent this weekend and we've shown patience. The small ball may be missing some though. Seems we've managed to get every bunt down that was needed so I find myself asking why we aren't trying to pressure the opponents with some of Van Horn's favorite "small ball" gaming? Maybe we don't have the speed in the lineup to do it?
  4. Pitching staff performed well enough to win. Husker bats are beginning to appear as though they are picking up exactly where they left off last year. Mediocre at best. Huskers lose in 11 How much longer will we have to endure Anderson's weak coaching and managing skills? Childress, where are you?
  5. Husker Nation will see today what type of team our beloved Skers can put on the baseball field. We are receiving every possible advantage. Colder weather will be discouraging and if the skers can get out to a decent lead early, maybe Newman can find a way of holding on. UCLA has the pitchers and depth but.. can they get motivated to play in mid 30's weather? Keller getting the start so our freshman stud will be tested. We're behind you Keller!! GBR!
  6. After seeing the atrocious pitching this past weekend (getting swept by Sam Houston State is NOT ACCEPTABLE) how can one get excited about this season. Mike Anderson has made "only" one respectable move in his coaching decision and that was to ask Erstad to return. Hopefully Anderson will allow Erstad to coach and not interfere with what he's teaching. (Its obviously working.) IMO, this should be the do or die season for Anderson.. Get us to the post season or expect to get the pink slip.
  7. Until Mike Anderson makes a move to get a pitching coach. One that, like Childress, can both teach and maximize the athletes potential, our beloved Huskers will remain average. Anderson made a great move when asking Erstad to return (hopefully D.E. is given a full coaching position) and now he needs to make a move to bring in a proven "young" pitching coach. The hitting is improved while the pitching again is mediocre at best.
  8. no news isn't always good news. Just tell us would you!
  9. +1 Husker Fans have always avoided the temptations of lowering our standards and becoming just another crazed fan base of idiots. We've been to the top of the pinnacle and near the bottom in the Callahan years. We rise to the occasions of "Big Games" and win or lose we stand proud. This game isn't any different then our last "big game". We are Husker Nation and by that we are above being rude to our adversary. Be Loud Be Proud and win or lose, Remain Dignified! GBR!!!
