E-Mart is a very bad man

In spring you always hear about how players are developing/making strides who makes a statement during the season?

So Hagg will basically be a rover/monster back now? Havnt seen that for awhile, always liked it though.

I think the main reason for so many offers is because we dont have the luxury of recruiting like Texas, Florida, Ohio State, or USC they offer who they really want and usually get that kid. We do have over 20 DL offers out but all of the kids we have offered are highly recruited kids with impressive offer sheets, and most if not all of them are very interested in what Nebraska has to offer. Atleast thats the way it comes off to me.

I hate Mike Sherman, I hate the aggies......stupid 12th man. Even though I dont think they have as good as shot as us, it still bugs me.

B-Jax is the better "runningback", but Helu is pretty good in his own right.

I think I wasn't very clear in what I was trying to say. I wasn't saying that Alabama was way above average at o-line last season, because they were. They have a very good o-line program there and probably always will because that's an important cog in their offense. What I was saying is that in any RB's case, the o-line has to be at least average to slightly above average in order for the RB to showcase their skill. If defenders are just allowed to blast through the o-line, the RB can dice, slice, and run as fast as he wants, he's probably going to get dropped in the backfield or for a short gain. Sure Ingram isn't the flashiest of runners, but he's great at making quick decisions and blasting through the hole. He's a tough runner and had a solid year. Should he have won the Heisman? Probably not, but the award is a joke anyway, so I'm not sure why everyone made such a big deal about him winning it. Everyone knows it goes to a player on the best team receiving the most hype at that given time. That's what the award is about now, and that's what it has been about since 1995. End of story. Good point about the Heisman. Very true. I think we disagree on Ingram's body of work though. When I watch film of Ingram, I don't see a skill set that is overly impressive. I mean, if you watch film of him, he will run straight up the middle of the defense untouched for 10-15 yards. Or, the play fake is developed so well that he just goes untouched on the perimeter. He isn't the type of back that's going to juke a couple of guys or impress you with speed, because his offensive line is good enough to the point of where the doesn't have to do that. I think he's a good player, don't get me wrong. And we agree that he more than likely should not have gotten the Heisman, and that's more or less my point. I believe he is extremely overrated because his athleticism just does not impress me. Trent Richardson will be a better runningback when it is all said and done.

The defense was amazing . . . one of the best I have ever seen play college football. The offense was atrocious . . . one of the worst I have ever seen at Nebraska. (granted, Bo did shut down the offense and go into bunker mode.) The 1994 and 1995 Nebraska teams were relatively balanced in that both the offense and the defense were well above average. In my opinion, the offense in 1995 was dominant enough that it took some of the pressure off of the defense. Can the 2010 Nebraska offense improve and take some pressure off the defense? Certainly. I hope that's the case. Anyways, here is my breakdown. 2010 cornerbacks > 2009 cornerbacks. Same players back but with more depth and experience. (+1) 2010 safeties < or = 2009 safeties. Have to replace both starting safeties. There is talent on the roster but it hasn't proven anything yet. I'd venture a guess that by the end of the season the 2010 safeties will be roughly as good as the 2009 safeties . . . but it will take some time to develop that consistency. (wash) 2010 linebackers < 2009 linebackers. I'm basing this entirely on the loss of Dillard because he was often the only linebacker on the field. Dillard was absolutely clutch. He made sideline to sideline plays against the run and even broke up some deep balls to receivers. Dillard was the best linebacker on the roster and it wasn't particularly close. Compton, Fisher, and May showed flashes of potential over the last few seasons but have not been overly impressive. Throw in the unproven wildcards of David and Martin who look the part but haven't played the position yet. There is potential to be good here . . . but it's unproven. (-1) 2010 defensive ends = 2009 defensive ends. We lose Barry Turner but Pierre Allen is back along with a host of other contributors. I think between some combination of Meredith (if he stays at DE) and Ankrah there won't be any dropoff here. (wash) 2010 defensive tackles << 2009 defensive tackles. Don't crucify me for this and keep in mind that I'd love to be wrong. HOWEVER . . . Suh was probably the best defensive linemen I have ever seen play college football. He was consistently double teamed and STILL led the team in tackles. That's incredible. Teams literally formed their gameplans to neutralize Suh and he was still absolutely dominant. I think Crick has the potential to be good, but it would be absolutely incredible if he was "Suh good." Crick will probably be double teamed on most plays and I'm not sure he can absorb the double teams and STILL make the plays like Suh did. Yes . . . Crick will occupy two blockers and therefore open things up for the other DT . . . but Suh could occupy two blockers and STILL make the tackle. That's unbelievable. We have a lot of depth at the position with Crick, Steinkuhler, Moore, Randle, etc. but there will only be two on the field at a time. I don't see any combination of the above (Crick & Moore, Crick & Steinkuhler, Crick & Randle) that will exceed the production of Crick & Suh. Just my opinion. (-2, at least) So to tie it all together I expect an equal or slightly improved secondary and defensive ends . . . and a slight dropoff at linebacker and a big dropoff at defensive tackle. Therefore with my rudimentary point system (that I just invented) I'd put it at about a -2 overall. Note that I totally just pulled this out of my nether region and it has no statistical basis . . . or basis in fact at all. Just my opinion. +1, I would agree with all of that, I'm hoping with a little more time in the weight room, agility training and anoth year with ekeler that compton, martin, fisher, may, david (big wildcard) can do exactly what we should expect from a Pelini style linebacker ie: Ali Highsmith, Demarrio Williams, TJ Holowell, Barrett Ruud.

so far nebraska is his only visit set in stone (coming with his parents for the spring game) and I hope his birthday is the same day as the spring game!

It almost looks like a pitcher throwing a slider, but the kid can throw it any way he wants as long as it is accurate and on time to the reciever.

everyone wants the percy harvin, dexter mccluster type reciever. Those type of playmakers can be a real weapon in a spread offense.

Excellent points about that matchup with Idaho. I don't know why people think that's gonna be such a cakewalk for us b/c that team knows how to score. They're defense is weak, so I see us putting up 35+. But, we'll have our hands full with that passing game of theirs. As far as the defense being better than last year, I say "NO" because that Suh-led D was one of the top 3 defenses in Nebraska history. One of the reasons that D was so incredible was how rarely they allowed opposing offenses to score TDs once they'd got inside our 30-yard line - we were the consumate "bend don't break" defense that imposed its will to the point of becoming arguably the nation's best redzone D. Slice it any way you want, I just don't see that happening again without a player like Suh. IMO we're in for a rude awakening on D, in spite of the swagger & coaching. I know we don't expect to see this, but I think the offense is gonna need to save our butts in at least 3 or 4 games this season. On paper it would appear our D will be more susceptible to the big plays due to the lack of experience at safety, especially on plays when we blitz LBs or DBs (from nickel & dime packages). Sure, we look pretty solid across the board, but the loss of those 4 seniors is bound to hurt us a couple times. Just sayin... Maybe in the first couple of games, but as soon as this years defense finds their groove like last years D did they will be fine. and the safetys will have alot of help with the depth at corner we have, and overall experience that the secondray has. By the time Big 12 play rolls around we should be clicking as a whole on defense, Bo will make adjustments if needed (its nice to have a coaching staff that actually makes adjustments during a game, unlike a certain staff before Bo and Co).

For some reason, every time I look at Trey he just doesn't seem like he's 235. Whether it's on the field or around campus, he looks like a guy floatin around 210. Maybe that's because of his frame, I don't know. Or, maybe I need to get a new contacts prescription. I'm pretty excited for the future in our running back corp, though. We are so loaded with depth and talent at that position right now. I think Burkhead and Robinson are the obvious front runners for 2011, but Braylon Heard has a lot of potential and so do the guys that we haven't seen much of (Ward, Jones, Okafor). Don't forget Aaron Green D-Train is around 6'1 and looks pretty long, his frame could carry that extra lean muscle without him looking any different. But he does have definate tree truncks for legs. Thats probably where he carries most of his muscle weight. I look at Cody Green in the same way, a frame that can carry his 220 lbs. I guess Sean Fisher is a good example too. Sean looks pretty skinny on campus too, hah. P.S. Your Eric Martin sigfest is awesome. E-Mart is pretty awesome, and scary. When I see him on campus I get scared....literally.

3 players stick out in my mind: 1. Eric Martin- Carl Pelini said in an interview some time ago that he WOULD be the defense. Did an amzing job on special teams though. 2. Terrance Moore- Jared Crick talked highly of him, lets see if he can stay healthy. 3. Taylor Martinez- Alot of talk about him so far, I understand he might not see alot of action this year, but I am excited to see if he can live up to the hype surrounding him as a quarterback.

2006? +1 Cody Glenn, Marlon Lucky, Kenny Wilson, Leon Jackson. I would say on paper that looks like quality depth at the RB position to me. Don't forget the best running back of the bunch in 2006 . . . Brandon Jackson. How could I forget B-Jacks
