Since the transfer portal officially went online in October 2018, 30 Husker scholarship guys have entered the portal.  Only four went directly to a scholarship at another Power 5 school: Lightbourn (Oregon State), Vedral (Rutgers), Spielman (TCU) and Fleming (Maryland).  Guy Thomas (Colorado via a JUCO) and Miles Jones (walk-on at Tennessee but since left the team) were on other Power 5 teams under other circumstances.

    What about Greene to FAU?

I think the opposite has been floated during the pressers - supposedly Frost had been keeping it slower than he'd like for the past couple years to protect the defense, and this was the year he'd felt comfortable enough with the defense to run more tempo. Of course, we only run tempo after positive plays so.. didn't happen a lot. But I think from pressers Frost considers a good defense license to go fast, not a reason to shift to a ball control style.

I'm not saying we didn't run tempo at times - but it seemed far less than his history and what he did at UCF. It also seemed like he did not use tempo as much with Martinez as he did with McCaffrey (I know a different convo).

The bill will take care of this.  The NCAA will total the monies made at all college/universities (still can't determine at FBS or all as it says 132 schools) and total this.  Pull out the monies for scholarships and then divide the remaining monies by 50%.  The school will get 1/2 and the athletes will get 1/2 dispersed equally to each individual.  Athletes covered would be scholarship athletes in football, baseball and mens'/women's basketball....IMHO, this will kill all but the major players in sports.  A lot of schools rely on the monies to pay for everything else........And a schollie player at NU, that never plays will be entitled to the same compensation as say JoJo/Wan'dale/AM etc as an every down player.....Latest estimate of payments.....

Using data supplied by universities to the Department of Education, Booker said that would mean payments of $173,000 a year to football players, $115,600 to men’s basketball players, $19,050 to women’s basketball players and $8,670 to baseball players who are on full scholarship.

Thanks for the info. It leads to a lot of questions.

How will this work with Title IX? How long before women athletes want to be paid the same as the male athletes - especially in the same sport? Also, and like others have said, how long before other programs are cut?

The poaching of players by top tier programs will also be interesting.

Hopefully, we get our new facilities built and paid for before this goes into effect as I don't see major projects on this scale being done with the frequency we are seeing now.

I've thought some about this the last couple days and despite all the crap we've given him, Chins has steadily improved the D year over year. They're no longer the reason we're not competing like we should. The special teams is atrocious and Scott's offense is stuck in the mud.

It's funny to me how the one guy we were so sure didn't deserve to be here has steadily improved his side of the ball towards respectability. If we continue trending like we've been could a top 30 unit be out of the question next year? It would be a huge boon if we got Stille back for another year.

Completely agree on Chins. I do still wish he would blitz or design pressure more often. His defense still has some room left for improvement on 3rd down as well. But overall he has improved the defense.

I've been wondering if Frost may have curtailed his fast pace on offense (and slowed down time between snaps a bit) because Frost realized the defense was the strength this year and decided to shift philosophy a bit. I'd be real interested to see Frost's response to that question posed by a member of the media.

He said USC and Maryland are not in it anymore but Oregon and Washington State have been after him since the early signing period.

He said he's down to Nebraska, UCF and UCLA plus those new two.  Said his best relationships are with Lubick and Chip Kelly.

    Announcing February 3rd.

Sounding like another battle with UCLA between Frost and Kelly. Pleasantly surprised it appears we are in the top 2.

How many years of eligibility does he have left?  Didn't he come in with 3 years?  So...he would still have 3?

I believe Mauga was a 3 for 2. So I think he would still have 3 for 2, right? Or would this year count as his rs year and have 2 years left?

Guys in the portal I'd target:

    Oklahoma RB Pledger

    Oklahoma WR Rambo

    Ohio St. WR Cooper

Illinois DE Carney (second team all BIG 10)

    Notre Dame DB Rutherford

    Colorado DE Harris

    Michigan OLB Savage

The 5 top guys could play right away IMO.

Dear god I hope we go after the OU guys in Pledger and Rambo. Both are legit playmakers and would be immediate starters at positions of need.

Is he a take if Savea doesn't go our way or roll the dice with the portal? We appear deep at that position with some youth coming up so he'd have time to develop.

I get the feeling he is a back up plan to Savea. Not sure if we maybe take and try to beef up to a NT.

The good news is that we will have no problem balancing the scholarship numbers like the other fools during this Covid mess!

Yes. Hopefully with the attrition, guys that are younger will also take advantage of the extra year  (such as Rogers, Reimers, Daniels, Ty Rob, Allen, and etc.) and we won't face the scholarship issue most might.

I'd put Wan'Dale and Cam Taylor-Britt but I suspect they will go pro after 4 years.

Frost has made changes each year though. Why would this change?

I didn’t say he wouldn’t make changes, only that he won’t feel pressure from Moos to do so. Moos has said as much as well.

Another way to look at it. If Frost is the coach, leader and man we hope he is. He will evaluate and make the changes to his staff even if they are buddies or he is comfortable with them without pressure. He should do it because he is a competitor and it is what is best for the program, team and current players.

I don’t think Frost will make any changes. I really think he believes things are going to work themselves out with staff continuity, much like we had under Devaney and Osborne.

  12. Frost won’t feel any pressure to make changes this offseason. If we see a disaster of a season next year is when pressure might begin - but even then is questionable. I really think Frost has another 2 years before he is on the hot seat.

Ok, same page. I like Nelson's potential as an edge rusher and I'm hoping he's sort of the missing link we've been waiting for.

He's not exactly that 'natural talent' kind of guy at that position - but he's strong for his size, and if he gets a little bit bigger & stronger I think he'll work out well.

I actually  think Nelson needs to get a bit faster off the edge if he intends to stay at OLB.

  14. Special teams have improved but still A LONG WAY TO GO. Coverage on kickoffs and punts are still bad and almost atrocious (but improved from last year). Blocking on returns still need a lot of work as well.

  15. @Wistrom Disciple Dismuke has been a tackling machine this year. While I think Farmer and Pola-Gates will be studs, it will be interesting to see if both can hold up over a full season. That's why I think having Dismuke or Williams back and have a rotation to include Dismuke/Williams (whichever one decides to come back), Famer, and Pola-Gates would be ideal.

Stille is still our best D linemen and would be again next year. Robinson may take him over and Rogers is steady force... but it would sure be nice to have Stille around for 1 more year.

  16. @Fru I don't think the 1st post was a shot at Frost's integrity, but merely pointing out the obvious in ways Frost could avoid comments in press conferences that a more seasoned coach would avoid. I think Frost may be on to something (and i'm not saying he is wrong) I just don't know if continuing to put that stuff out there is the best strategy for a young team.

  17. @MyBloodIsRed16 Domann coming back would be huge for next years defense. Also, I'd like to see either Williams or Dismuke come back as well, along with Stille on the Dline.

On offense... I agree, Jaimes is gone. While Farniok has struggled some, his presence on the oline would be nice for next year and agree that Farniok and Stoll are really the only players I'd like to see back on the offensive side.

  18. What is dumbfounding to me is that we always hear in the preseason about how depth has improved and we will see some rotation (amount differs every year). While we saw some rotation early this year at the LG spot, such a statement has proven to be false once again. Rather than try to rotate a few new guys in to give them a chance (Bando or Nouili) it seems the 5 that start are even more entrenched. This isn't a comment on just Austin, but something that has carried over from the past couple regimes.

And that 0-10 yards would be 17-18 with a TD if Warner had caught the pass that hit him in both hands in the end zone against Ohio State.

But this shows pretty clearly we're not pushing the ball downfield, so the question becomes - is that a QB issue, a scheme issue or a talent issue? Because I'm thinking at least 50% of the issue is we don't have any WRs that can stretch the defense right now.

I think its a combination of the 3. We lack talent (and experience) at the WR spot to push it down the field. Another important factor I've noticed is that in Amart's first year it seemed as though there were more designed deep throws with minimal reads (reading one player versus progression). I think we are seeing too many plays called now which require Amart to read coverage (more of a progression tree style offense) - so I think some of the issues we are seeing with Amart last year and this year are play design/scheme.
