  1. your missing the fact that i never said we were all that great. we have a good offense and an excuse for a defense. and we're a lot better at home. see: 5-2 last year. How do you know you have a good offense? It didn't look good vs. BYU and according to you, beating teams that are "sorry" means nothing.. So, how can you claim your offense is good? Oh yeah, and remember, you said last year means nothing.. So you're 5-2 record at home is not worth mentioning. it did fine vs. a solid BYU team on the road. Air force is good this year, and will likely keep close with oklahoma til halftime. unfortunately, stupid coaching decisions and poor play on special teams doomed us. our average starting field position was terrible, and theirs was really good. also, we return a ton of starters from last year, unlike you guys, so last year should give you a pretty good idea of what to expect. and since home field advantage has little to do with personnel, your point is invalid. and if you keep bringing up stupid arguments, i will no longer feel obligated to respond.
  2. I will guarantee you that you do not have an advantage in the skill positions. We have crazy good cornerbacks and safeties, and a lights-out defensive line that goes two-deep as well as anyone in the nation. Where you might have an advantage is if you run the ball straight at us, or use short crossing routes around our linebackers. We've lost our top two linebackers due to injury and that's the weakest part of our defense. Of course, our backup linebackers are very, very good, so we'll see what happens there. Defense is my favorite side of the ball, and I'm very comfortable with our defense this year. We're certainly not unbeatable, but it'll take one hell of a game by an opponent to beat us. by skill positions, i meant QB, RB, and WR. in each, i think we have a slight advantage. in everything else, i think we will be overwhelmed As in, your QB is better than our QB? That I will agree with. While Martinez may have a great career ahead of him, we have a large body of work to look at for Locker, and he's impressive. At RB... I don't think you have an advantage. I'm not familiar with Polk other than what I've seen on film this week, but he does not appear to me to be better than Helu, and I have no idea who your backup is, but I know we go four-deep with pretty darned good skill. If Helu goes down we put in Burkhead, with no dropoff. If Burhead goes down we put in Robinson, with little dropoff. If Robinson goes down we put in Jones, with very little dropoff. We legitimately have four very good RBs. How our #1 compares to your #1 is what you're talking about, I presume, and that I cannot say. Helu is good, like 150-something yards against last year's VA Tech defense good. So who knows there. At WR I would venture your guys are better across the board. My guess is you want your WRs to be WRs, while our coaches seem to think our WRs must be WRs and offensive linemen - so much so that an inability to block has kept a few very good WRs on our bench at Nebraska. I think we have talent at WR, but we also have boneheadedness, and that boneheadedness has also cost us games. So this is also hard to say. The true test, though, isn't Locker vs Martinez or Polk vs Helu. It's your offensive skill players vs. our defense, and vice versa. That's where I think Nebraska has the advantage, because our defense is WAAAAAAAY better than our offense. And our offense is OK. first off, lol@guy who says NU's recievers are better. as for RB, you make an interesting argument. your certainly deeper than we are, but i watched a fair amount of nebraska football last year and was not impressed at all by roy helu. his line gets him his stats, not any elusiveness or YAC, like polk. comparing numbers though, i can see how you might think its close. but Our line does not help Polk out at all for the most part. he earns every yard he gets. and yes, your D is good. not yet willing to say it measures with the nation's elite, seeing as youve yet to have any competition, but they were certainly up there last year. Our offensive line was widely considered our largest weakness last year. So I'm not sure where you can say he benefited from them. We were injury riddled and flat out bad up front last year on offense.. And you're not ready to put our defense up with the nation's elite? We've not allowed a team to score 20 points in 10 straight games (second closest to us is 4 games) and we're not elite? Well, if the measuring stick is now, we can only call our defense elite if we do it this year, against the big dogs, the same can be said for just about every team, player and unit in the country so far. But until proven otherwise, our track record more than indicates our defense IS the nation's elite unit. hmm, i see i've struck a chord with nebraska fans. my opinion stands, even though i think helu will have a better game because our D-line SUCKS. just watching the two, i've not seen helu do anything amazing (though i didnt watch the missouri game). seeing polk, i see him breaking tackles and getting YAC every week. i know i'm biased, but i think a neutral observer would agree with me. and no, after wins over two of the most sorriest programs in the nation, your defense still needs to prove itself. of course they were good last year, but what i see is a group that last six starters, including suh, and a bunch of NU fans buying into preseason hype coming from the coaches. well you know what? our coaches said the same thing. yet we still suck on D. so no, until they go out and dominate teams that are any good, i will withhold judgement, positive or negative. Am I missing something or is your only win against one of the worst programs in the nation? Syracuse? Did they suddennly become not a joke anymore and nobody told me? your missing the fact that i never said we were all that great. we have a good offense and an excuse for a defense. and we're a lot better at home. see: 5-2 last year.

  4. Thank you, Captain Obvious. That goes for your Huskies too. Holding onto the ball isn't gonna be an easy task against the Blackshirts. Unlike previous seasons in which our D hasn't erupted as a turnover-producing machine till the 5th or 6th game, we're already there after game 2. Just in time for you now, now, no need for name calling i don't mean a million turnovers, like last year against iowa state. i mean one turnover could be the difference in the game. keep in mind, i'm one of the more level-headed husky fans saying that nebraska should be the favorite. as much optimism as i see on here, there's a ton of fans on husky forums that are pretty confident that the huskers are a bunch of overrated media darlings that are living off the hype from last year. either way, its just homerism on both sides, and i see this as being a very good game.
  5. not really. he did early last year, but was sure-handed the rest of the season. on that play, he got caught in midair and got a direct hit from a helmet. most backs would fumble.
  6. Source? Make that RELIABLE source? http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/huskyfootballblog/2012421961_checking_in_with_ivan_lewis.html?syndication=rss Apparently you misinterpret the word reliable. I'm definitely going to believe that. No. by 'reliable' you probably mean 'i want something from a huskers site saying that', so here http://thehusker.com/jake-locker-40-yard-dash/ and yes, it's unofficial. his lowest official time is 4.43 No. By reliable, I mean I want something from an unbiased source. A Nebraska site is not unbiased. Nor is the Washington coaching staff. Rivals, Scout, ESPN, Yahoo Sports, etc. its not 'biased', its unofficial. i can find hundreds of sources that all say the same thing: locker was timed at 4.39 unofficially, and ivan lewis reported it. again, his lowest official time is 4.43. heres the source: http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=65735&draftyear=2011&genpos=QB
  7. With 20K Nebraska fans, I doubt anyone is worried. i'm not going to say anything else, cuz thats what we want you to think

  10. no, the husky fans will be nice and quiet when you have the ball. i mean, it might as well be a home game for NU. the fans will not factor in at all.

  13. Washington isn't Texas Tech, and simply watching film isn't going to make them into Texas Tech. If they beat us they'll do it in their own style, using their own weapons. Locker is 10x the running threat that Sheffield was, and their wideouts aren't as good. Kearse may not end up being as good as Crabtree, he won't put up crazy numbers because we don't run a spread crazy offense, but he is a legitimate NFL prospect. well, he's only in his junior season, and he's putting some big numbers up already. i wouldnt rule anything out haha...
  14. ya, our O-line isnt great, but watch out for Chris Polk, famous for being able to break tackles from guys much bigger than he is.
  15. Question: "Will this D be the best Locker has ever faced?" Answer: if he played against them last year, yes. this year? no.
  16. hahaha how bout playing some actual competition before thinking the huskies will roll over at home? our only two losses at home last year were against oregon and LSU. against LSU, we outplayed them, but hurt ourselves with turnovers. against Oregon, theres no excuse, but your offense is not as good as theirs. i mean, not even close. i'm not saying we'll win, but when you nebraska needs a second half comeback, you'll realize that the huskies are not to be taken lightly, and that, despite the preseason hype, the nu D will not be as good as last years unit. and anyway, we beat syracuse pretty easily, despite spotting them 14 points with turnovers and special teams mistakes. i mean, we beat them by the same score NU beat idaho. doesn't mean idaho was ever in that game. in the end, if you guys manage to avoid fumbles, you probably win. turn the ball over, and you guys are in for a long game.
  17. I disagree. We must easily roll over the Huskies in order to prove ourselves. The Pac-10 is weak and if we are what we think we are, they should offer little resistance. We'll see... pac-10 is weak...we'll see this weekend. i'm not sure a neutral site W over AZ justifies someone calling the pac-10 weak, but theyve yet to prove themselves. either way, on the road in husky stadium, you guys should just be happy to get out with a W.
  18. Throw Locker's mind into Ganz and you don't have an NFL quarterback. Throw Ganz' mind into Locker and you've got a great quarterback. Locker is getting all this attention because of his frame. locker, sark, and uwub are just media darlings. NU is not. just the way things are. what??? media darlings??? since when did that start??? Locker has excellent running ability, a cannon for an arm, can throw on the run with the best of them, and puts up pretty good numbers for having not much of a team around him. besides, those were stats from his junior year (his second full season).
  19. husky here. looking forward to a great game! i think we will show you that we are not to be taken lightly! however, while i think we have an advantage at the skill positions, we are thin at the lines, and our D is unimpressive, which doesn't bode well for us in the latter minutes of the game
  20. -locker runs 4.4 -martinez runs 4.5 locker is a target with no o-line, while martinez has good linemen in front of him. i think i'm not going to be quick to crown him because of the lack of competition.
