  1. Road Rat: I'm at a loss as to what specific steps and the timing of those steps that you think Pederson should have made instead of the ones he did and when? To the AD it was obvious that a change had to be made with the HC. Given that, how could he have done the firing and the coaching search in a way that would have made you feel good about it? Solich apparantly had made the AD and Chancellor upset by extending the coaching staff's salary extentions beyond what had been agreed upon earlier that year. HIs recruiting was so bad that some of the coaches didn't even go on the road! The AD couldn't recruit his replacement BEFORE terminating Solich and time was running out. Because Pederson thought that Houston McNutt WAS coming, and not back out at the last minute, there was obviously a delay. Some prospects were reluctant, because Solich had a good win/loss record that last year. Please respond, definitively, as to what and when he should have made the change.
  2. Mack Brown, as well as, Paterno, have been stocking up on 4 and 5 star players for several years. That's the reason that Frosh do so well with that supporting cast. Callahan needs about 2-3 more classes to try to get even, since the NU program's recruiting has been in shambles prio to his arrival. Or, in other words, UT next year, without Young, has more talent. (But then so did UM!!.)

  4. Husker rob: thanks, you are so good to me! I attended the NU upset of OU in '59 that broke the Big 8 Sooner win streak, while I was a frosh at NE Wesleyan!!!! I was wondering why I didn't bleed while shaving anymore. Oh and BTW, wasn't that Gotham bowl exciting to listen to?
  5. When I was at OSU the talk was that the pro scouts better not come around the practice field. Supposedly, a couple did and Woody literally chased them on foot out of the stadium. They ran from him! I was a the practice field one day and listened and watched woody work with his players. He was mean and demeaning to them. When he did his weekly TV show he was the same way. But, his players were still loyal. Unfortunately, the rivalry with UM was much worse than NU's with CU. Cars and store fronts around the campus were trashed the night before the game. If you went to a bar with one of the teams's (either one) sport's shirts you were at big risk!
  6. Stay with us, Victors Valient, for you are welcome. I post on your site, so feel free! Regarding the best conference question, the first step is to agree upon the criteria to be used and the weight appled to each of those factors. Once that is determnined, then it is simple to apply the figures to determine which conf comes out ahead. Should stats be used for regular season and bowl game? Or, should scoring be the factor? Should only the bowls be considered or just the regular season? If polls are to be used, whose? Presumably the polls take into account the competition, but not completely. Then, how much weight is applied to the rankings, such as : does the #1 place have as much weight as 2 other teams ranked #s 3 and 4 combined? The problem, obviously, is that the 2 camps will not agree to a specific criteria, because they know which one will result most beneficially to their stance. Isn't conjecture fun?
  7. Thanks for being a part of the greatest army in history. Your deeds are noble and you are part of the effort to bring freedom, not only to that part of the world for generations to come, but you are saving this country from being overrun by Islamo-Fascism in a similar manner as with Hitler. God Bless you and your fellow soldiers.
  8. I thought that there were 11 teams in what was formerly the Big 10. If it is still refered to as the Big 10, who is the Little 1? I thought that was why it is now the Big 12 and not the Big 8.
  9. rugrat: Wasn't the 2004 season weak with early opponents, as well? husker rob: Brandenburgh was a soph this last season (2005) It's beginning to look like Lucky may play a Bush role and Glenn a White role, with Todd playing less than half the plays. I believe the staff cannot keep Glenn on the bench only for short yardage plays. This gives even more versatility and more plays, with the rotation of 3 backs, to an offense that was a 2 back system this last season. What do you gals/guys think?
  10. From rojo: A year ago at this time Coz, Elmo, Blake and Busch were getting some heat from us fans. Not this year. From the NCAA’s final stats including all bowl games…. I. “Total Defense”: A 30-place improvement for the Huskers. --2004: #56: 372 yards allowed/game. --2005: #26: 332 That’s yielding a half-a-football-field less per game. . II. “Scoring Defense”: A 46-place improvement. --2004: #71: 27.2 points allowed/game --2005: #25: 21.0 That’s a touchdown less per game. . III. "Yards allowed per play": How the defenses of teams in the final Top 25 rank. The teams in the final coaches poll (USA Today) arranged by "Yards allowed per play" 1. Miami: 3.91 2. Virginia Tech: 4.08 3. LSU: 4.16 4. Penn State: 4.17 5. Alabama: 4.29 6. Ohio State: 4.33 7. Texas: 4.39 8. Boston College: 4.42 9. Oklahoma: 4.43 10. TCU: 4.48 11. Florida State: 4.49 12. West Virginia: 4.54 13. Nebraska: 4.56 14. Louisville: 4.70 15. Clemson: 4.73 16. Texas Tech: 4.76 17. Georgia: 4.77 18. Florida: 4.81 19. California: 4.89 20. Auburn: 5.00 21. Oregon: 5.05 22. USC: 5.24 23. Wisconsin: 5.73 24. Notre Dame: 5.86 25. UCLA: 6.03 . The Bottom Line: We did good this year. The Blackshirts had a lot to do with it. Our defensive coaching staff deserves some credit. GBR!
  11. I'm apparently one of the few football fans who have thought for years that Keith Jackson and Pat Summerall were full of hot air and only contributed contrite and too obviously meaniless dialogue with no seasoned thought about the game at all. When I can tell quite easily that the offense has just gone 3 yards and the ref is showing that a first down was made, and then KJ states otherwise in doubt, something is seriously wrong with faculties and/or eyesight. To me it was embarrasing.
  12. 1) Rose Bowl- Intense to the end and good play. 2) Alamo Bowl- Very intense because the underdog rose to the occasion coming from behind against the NFL players. 3) Fiesta Bowl- I attended grad school there when Woody Hayes (never could stand him) took them to play OJ in the Rose Bowl. (Days of Kent State disaster!) Great contest for 3 qtrs.
  13. I felt sorry for him during the broadcast, because he seemed to be really slipping with his memory and eyesight. He made many many mistatements about the players and the field postion and the ref calls. His partner had an uncomfortable time trying to correct what he said in a respectful way. KJ's time has come; the TV execs need to move him out to pasture, so he is not embarassed, further.
  14. Still Watching: I thought exactly the same thing re "Mr. Inside" and "Mr. Outside." It will be interesting to see what the staff does with Lucky and Glenn. It looks like Todd may only play half the time.
  15. Does anyone know anything about this guy.? Has anyone heard anything from the practices? Punter 97 Dan Titchener, 6-0, 195, So., Cheyenne, Wyo. (Koch's backup)
  16. Your take is a surprize, since the coaches all year have felt otherwise, regarding his role vis-a-vis Lucky's. I presume that will be settled very early next season. Maybe you're right in that I don't have an accurate picture of Lucky. If I were to bet on it though, I'd say that Glenn will be persuaded to be a FB. In that role he'll get much more playing time and not just blocking! I see him also on short yardage situations with Todd blocking.
  17. I've read that his son (new UCLA grad) may be offered one of the grad assist openings!
  18. Don't conclude that Lucky isn't doing the job, yet. Remember, Ross had some very poor yardage games in the middle of the season. The reason, up front blocking was poor. Lucky has to get down the techniques of blocking, particularly protection blocking, as Ross did so well. Once he gets into that phase of his game and with the line jelling, like it was against UM, he'll be terrific, I think. Glenn had a good TD to carry ratio, becauwe he was a fine short yardage back (230 lbs) that they relied upon near the goal line. I believe that he could be a terrific FB for carries, blocking and routes for pass receiving. But, it looks like, the staff likes Todd as the starter.
  19. I had thought that with Glenn's weight (230) he would supplant Todd as fullback, because of his pass catching ability and route running out of the backfield. Just this week I read, in an interview with Glenn, that he had little interest in being a fullback. When Ross went to the sidelines, Lucky went in for him. That says to me that Glenn won't get much playing time with the current configuration. Using him only on short yardage situations seems a waste of talent.
  20. HANC: Thanks for the correction on Octavien. How can Palmer step in with no experience? I'm unsure what they will do with Leon. Since our need will be more with the DBs than with WRs, I concluded he stays at FS. Patrick took over as a starter for Murtha late, but who knows for the future. Also, in addition to Muhammed, Suh has too much talent not to be a part of the DL picture. If that's so, it gives the coaches a little more opportunity to experiment with Turner as a speed rusher, aka Demorio! Then they could run a 5-2 on third and long. I presume that Andy Christiansen will be a backup and I see Phillips losing his starting status, as well. I'm most unconfortable with Grixby and Green on defense, but otherwise both the offense and defense should be improved due to experience and those coming off injuries. Congdon needed a little more strength, but he is still very young. I have no idea if the punter we have for next season has top caliber tools.
  21. I am attempting to guess at the 2006 Spring Fling starters. I invite corrections to any errors I've made or disagreements as to my picks: TE (Y): 11 Matt Herian***, 6-5, 240, Sr., Pierce, Neb. 81 Josh Mueller*, 6-5, 265, Jr., Columbus, Neb. PR: 2 Cortney Grixby, 5-9, 165, Jr., Omaha, Neb. 83 Terrence Nunn*, 6-0, 185, Jr., Houston, Texas HOLD: 8 Joe Ganz, 6-1, 200, So., Palos Heights, Ill. The Redshirt Frosh (Rfr.) I changed to Sophomores (So.). even though they may be shown as a year behind their actual class, because they had 3 yrs of eligibility left. Herian is listed as a Sr. next year for the same reason. Octavien, I presume still has 2 more years of eligibility. Also, I didn't take into account a third down pass rush lineup with Barry Turner or nickle and dime packages. The stars are from the 2005 lineup that I didn't change for letters earned. It looks like 5 seniors from next year's offense and 8 seniors from next year's defense will play their final year.
  22. Here is the 2006 Husker Football schedule: http://www.huskers.com/SportSelect.dbml?DB...SPID=22&SPSID=3
  23. Are the UM and OSU recruits more from the north than from the south? I presume that the midwest and northeast or hotbeds for those schools, rather than TX and CA for us.
  24. Weasel: I would like to encourage you to express yourself more. Holding back like you do makes me wonder if you really care about ESPN!!!
  25. By the time the Spring Fling rolls around, what changes will have been addressed by the staff regarding our weak areas this season? Defensive Backfield: It seems to me that Grixby and Green were marginal playmakers in that backfield this year. Bullocks, Tiedtke and Bowman seemed to be the stong ones back there. Who could be that 4th top notch player? Shanley/Jackson/Brothers? Offensive Line: The tackles are just green. But, is there depth for them and the guards. Who can help? We need quality backups to rotate. Who do we have - Huff? TEs: Phillips was an average playmaker, especially on routes. Herian will be back. Who else can help- Mueller? We lose Ross, Koch, Adams, Smith, Bullocks, Tiedtke, Ickes and Koch(P) who started in the bowl game. Seven out of 24 positions is not bad at all! Ickes was playing for an injured starter, to boot. Who will be in line as a punter? Does Titchener have promise?
