  1. how so? top programs in the big 12 were and always were, nebraska, OK, and Tex.No. We weren't. For the latter part of our time in the conference it was Texas by a country mile, then OU, then the rest of us. We did not hold much power or authority in that conference. so you agree with me, the head hogs always were Neb, Tex and OK. Where is texas now? bringing up the rear currently..its all cyclical. No. Nebraska never was one. The other teams didn't give a sh#t about our rivalry and constantly voted against us. The Big Ten is far better than the Big 12 for us. Big 8 > Big 10 > Big 12
  2. We were never "head hogs at the trough" in the Big 12.
  3. That isn't the issue (at least not in my opinion). People shouldn't be stuck in there for minor infractions for a long time in order to make money for a company. It's a completely corrupt system. They should be there for a time specified based on the crime they commit and what they do while they're there. A longer sentence should not be making someone more $. That incentivizes keeping them in there as long as possible regardless of whether they should still be there. In addition to that it might be costing taxpayers more than it saves. http://guardianlv.com/2014/03/private-prisons-profit-from-taxpayer-dollars/
  4. I'm assuming this was made into a topic as some sort of error.
  5. Once again I'd like to thank the mods for merging this thread with VA huskers so I could enjoy garbage like this. Thank you. And now it's filled with me complaining about people being off topic which is also off topic. Wish someone would just come in and delete the 2/3 of the posts that aren't actually about what the OP intended, and what I actually wanted to read about.
  6. As much as I am b!tching, you realize myself and others are watching this thread, hoping to see us get a bowl invite right? Kind of nullifies the whole "bad fan" label. I love the Huskers and hope for the team to get an invite, but to support this staff. Umm, no. Who said you were being a bad fan? You are just helping to ruin the topic.
  7. That's what the effinig purpose of the topic was. Re-read the OP. If you don't like it don't post in it. I don't care how many dozens of people are being stupid and doing that. That doesn't mean it's what should be done. There are literally 30+ other topics to bitch in. Again, I don't know why the hell these 2 topics were merged.
  8. Lots of twerps in this thread completely ignoring the OP. Go whine in the 50 other topics designated for it.
  9. Martinez might not as bad, but he wasn't that far off. I have the same feeling when Tommy throws his Michael Jordon fade away bomb as when Taylor would drop his back shoulder and heave a prayer. Without looking it up I believe Martinez had a 57% career completion percentage.
  10. Why the hell were these 2 threads merged? One of them was about whether we should accept a bowl invite/deserve to go to a bowl game/how bad the bowl system is if they let in a 5-7 team. The one with the current OP is not about those things at all. It's about our chances at getting into a bowl. He specifically asked that this not turn into a bitching thread and the merging of the two topics automatically turns it into that: OP: "Look, I know at 5-7 we don't deserve a bowl. But let's not discuss that here, nor how the whole bowl system should be overhauled. Please, keep it on track. And don't whine if I call you out for getting off track with the same old arguments." Can we please unmerge the threads (or lock this one and start over) so we can actually talk about what the OP wants to talk about? And what some of the rest of us also were interested in talking about?
  11. The kid wasn't charging the cop. I reiterate, there has got to be a better way to deescalate the situation. This shouldn't have been a death sentence for the young man. Deescalating situations only works when both parties agree to it. In this instance, that might have been the case or it might not have. We don't know, but I am willing to bet the house that there is no way on god's green earth that every situation between a cop and suspect can be deescalated. There are too many variables to go into interactions between cops and civilians to write a text book response and expect everyone to abide by it. Hell, think about the stories of individuals either on drugs or severely intoxicated that require multiple cops to get under control. You're going to tell me that the cops should just work to deescalate the situation? Just to clarify, I do think the cop is wrong in this situation. Yeah, I tend to think that if someone is is not wielding a gun, then deescalation/containment must be the an option. How many cops were at this scene, 6 or so? 6-8 cops can't contain a guy with a 3" blade? I don't get it. The police are unrealistically authorized to use lethal force, is my take. Your's is the unrealistic expectation. Two situations, one of which that doesn't end with a criminal being shot; A) Suspect with a knife, 6-8 officers on site, suspect is ordered to drop knife. Instead suspect turns in a threatening manner towards officers. Guess what should happen 100% of the time. B) Suspect with a knife is ordered to drop the knife and he does. No one is shot. Why is this so f'ing hard for you to figure out? How about cops figure out how to capture guys with knives w/o killing them, especially when they are nowhere near them? I know, it's tough, because cops have shown they will kill kids with toy guns and such. So you're saying the cops should just figure out how to capture him. What if he takes 3-4 cops out before the "figure out" how to capture him, without escalating the tension? Uh, this is why they are supposedly looking at their training protocol and use of lethal force. You know, they have bomb suits for those who disable bombs. Maybe cops could where more protective gear in these situations, but that's not really what I'm talking about here. Surround him, deescalate, wait it out, like a hostage situation, nobody gets hurt, hopefully. Shoot him with a tranquilizer, how about that? They even do that for animals in the wild. what a concept. Non lethal, IOW. I'm sure the best and brightest minds can figure this out. This kid was murdered within 30 seconds of the cop showing up. There's got to be a better way of accosting, containing, capturing, there has to be. I've actually never thought about this. Interesting concept, would imagine its sort of the premise behind tasers too. Well, tasers have been shown to be lethal as well, especially when the "well trained" cop tases someone over and over again(in the news a week ago). Not a fan of tasers either. Its taken a couple of pages for me to finally understand, Next time, just come out and say it on page one so I don't fall into the trap of thinking I was actually getting somewhere.... you're not a fan of cops in general. Its a darn shame that citizens of this fine country don't instinctively know the difference of right and wrong and choose to follow the former. I'm not a fan of cops who kill unarmed, unthreatening people with guns or tasers or clubs or whatever. Call me "radical". I'm also not a fan of private prison slave labor and the targeting of commuinties for revenue generation via bogus citation writing. I'm also not a fan of Sheriffs dpts doing hiway robbery of migrant farm workers paychecks. I'm also not a fan of the various "seisure" practices(legalized theft) practiced by police dpts. These are things that I consider "wrong", I call it "corruption", "malpractice", and it's not the citizens doing them. If you support these things, then that's on you. As far as the honest cops go, I'm good with that. so if you have an inmate in prison, it costs money to keep this trash in a dumpster understand? why not put them to work? if the state or prison and make some money back great . its not like they are busy. as far as prisoners getting in house jobs in a state prison, they EARN it by good behavior. Jobs are not given to anyone who doesn't put effort into getting it. just like we do out side. The deal is, that both public and private prisons contract with private companies and use the prisoners as a source of essentially free labor for private profiteering. This is a type of slavery. Modern type of Gulag or whatever. If they want to pay them a fair wage, minimum wage, then that's a different story. You may not have a problem with it, but many do and there is a good deal of push back on the system. There are those in prison serving inflated sentences for misdeamer or those who have served a few years waiting for a trial, i.e., haven't been convicted yet. That's a fair amount of your prison slave labor force. as inmates in a prison you give up a lot of rights you understand this don't you?? and im not sure you go to prison to wait on a trial. that would be a county or city jail. That doesn't mean prisons should be for profit. Prisoners don't, and shouldn't, lose all rights. And when companies make money by keeping jails full, they're going to do everything they can to keep jails full.
  12. Tommy has hit his peak. If he isn't capable of making the decision not to throw a 50/50 pass when the team is in field goal range, he never will. If he still doesn't know it's not against the rules to throw the ball out of bounds, he never will. If he still doesn't know taking a sack is better than winging the ball up in the air toward a random spot on the field, he never will. He's had 3 seasons of college football to learn those things. He is not going to learn them now. Also, I really don't like the comparisons to Martinez. Martinez was never this bad at throwing and at any moment he could score a TD with his legs.
  13. America has done much to destabilize the region and help facilitate that rise of terrorist groups including ISIS. America bears some responsibility for why the Middle East is the quagmire that it is today and it is easy to understand why many have hostile attitudes toward America. I know several Muslims that are here on student visas working on a Ph.D. I will pass along the message that Muslim foreigners are no longer welcome here and that they should conduct their groundbreaking research for some other country. I hope they listen. Groundbreaking research? Into what? LOL We all know about the literally hundreds and thousands of world famous scientists and inventors of the Muslim tradition that have made our world so much better, brighter, safer, healthier and more peaceful! 3 of the brightest students in my department are Muslim. Quit assuming other people are making stuff up just because of what you've heard on the news. Writing something off when you don't know sh#t about it is obnoxious. A lot of students at the Masters and PhD level at UNL in STEM fields are from areas of the world where Islam is the dominant religion. More than half of the students in the graduate level stats course I took as an undergrad were from the Middle East or Africa. The same goes for the class I took after that. This is the same every single semester. They are all doing research in important fields.
  14. Hard to keep it together when they score consecutive TDs on the same play. Once Nebraska shows they can stop them I'll feel like we have a chance.
  15. Hey guys, Mark May is so impressed with Iowa's offensive line. I mean they're clearly dominating us. Just look at the score.
  16. There's a reason TA has a 50% completion percentage. Pretty much every throw is a 50/50 ball. The rest of the throws are either straight to a receiver or straight to the other team.
  17. Football. With rules. Rules that are trying to limit the number of brain injuries these guys get. Meh, that's what helmets are for The helmets don't do a good enough job to prevent CTE
  18. If they knew they were going to go for it why didn't they run it on 3rd??
  19. King will be there next time f#*k Armstrong doesn't know when he should run it. His brain kills me.
