  9. Hey guys! I know it's a few weeks away, but I was wondering if anybody is having a tailgate before the game? It's been a few years since I've seen some of you, and it would be nice to catch up! Mom & I will be there!
  10. This is an awesome rescue! I stayed up half the night watching the miners being brought up. This is kinda personal to me, since my husband and son both work in a coal mine. I just pray every day that they and all the other miners stay safe. It's not an easy job, but "Coal Keeps the Lights On". Bless all the miners, families, and rescuers in Chile!
  11. " The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart". Psalms 34:18 You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
  12. Guy....I'm old enough to chime in! Beating Oklahoma in the Game of the Century was unforgettable! I can still hear Lyle Bremser calling the game...."man, woman, and child"! It was a Thanksgiving Day tradition!
  13. I, too, have been personally affected by cancer. My Dad lost his battle with prostate cancer about 4 years ago. His cancer came back and he also decided against treatments. He was 82 and had lived a long, good life. Why spend the next several months not feeling well? We agreed with his decision, and he passed away in May 2006. My Mom and I were with him, and we knew that he was finally not in pain anymore. A few years ago, I had a scare after going through several mammograms, aspirations, and biopsies. I have been a volunteer for the American Cancer Society Relay For Life for the past seven years. Last year I was co-chair and will be again this year. My wish is that we NEVER have to hear the word "cancer" again! Anyone can participate in Relay For Life. Friends, families, neighbors, classmates, sports teams, etc., can form their own teams. No matter who you are, there's a place for you at Relay. It's a life-changing experience. At Relay, every person in the community has a chance to celebrate, remember, and fight back. And every person who participates joins others around the globe as part of this worldwide movement to end cancer. Everyone's reason to Relay is as unique as their own personal story. At Relay, you can find healing, comfort, and support from others who have faced cancer or who have lost a loved one to the disease. You have a chance to meet people in the community who are equally as passionate about finding an end to cancer in our lifetime. You can thank all the people who have done so much to support you through your personal cancer experience. And you can gather together with friends, family, and colleagues to laugh, cry, and create lasting memories. This year more than 11 million cancer survivors will celebrate another birthday, thanks in part to the progress we've already made. I have made a commitment to keep fighting until we find a cure! And.....knapplc, you are right....we cannot find a cure fast enough! Thanks for reading this and I hope you would all think about joining a local Relay For Life......you'll be amazed!
  14. Well, I finally had a dream come true! I got to see a tornado on Thursday! I was on my way to get my hair done in Dover, Ohio. It was raining pretty hard most of the way up I-77. About a mile from the Dover exit, Mom mentioned that there were a lot of birds flying around all of a sudden. We had noticed the sky was weird too.....bright blue sky, but underneath a layer of really dark clouds. All of a sudden we saw the tornado! We were so close we had to look up out of the windshield to see it! It was huge and there were gigantic pieces of debris swirling around in it. I was yelling, "Mom....I'm getting to see a tornado!!" She told me I needed to pull off the road, so I did, along with all the other cars behind and in front of us. It was an amazing sight! We watched it go across the interstate and off towards Dover. I couldn't grab my cell phone quick enough to get any video or pictures. Obviously I don't like the destruction afterwards, but I still can't believe I got to see a tornado!! There is lots of damage done there and more in Wooster, Ohio. After living in Nebraska for 20 years I had to be in Ohio to see a tornado!!
  15. Seems so many of you all get to go to the games, and was wondering how you always get tickets?! I usually don't have too much trouble finding some, but guess this is the year that will change that! I've been checking out the different "vendors" who have tickets online. Just wondering how reliable some of them are? Looks like StubHub has the best deals right now for the Missouri game. Any comments on past experience? Thanks!
  16. Happy Birthday! Long time, no see.....hope all is well with you and your wife!
  17. Trying to find tickets to the Texas game.....giving up and going to "Plan B"....Missouri game. Can you all feel sorry for me and let me win?!
  18. OK....so we decided Nebraska/Texas tickets would be just about impossible to find, so we are going to Plan B. Does anybody have any or know of any Nebraska/Missouri tickets? This is for our "Annual Mother-Daughter Football Weekend". Please help! We need 2!
  19. Looking for your tickets now.....where are they?
  20. I heard Kenny Chesney's new song "The Boys of Fall" and just thought it was a cool song. I saw the video for the first time last week and it is absolutely awesome! Obviously I never played football, but it brought back memories from when my boys played....their hopes and dreams, pride, Parent Night, victories and defeats. There are clips of biddy football, high school, college and pro. I can't wait for football season to start! Go Big Red!
  21. "There's no place like home"......Happy 71st Birthday to The Wizard of Oz! My favorite movie! Love it!
  22. Roxy....this is my brisket recipe. I make it every year for our Labor Day cookout. Very good! 10-12 lb brisket Cover the bottom and sides of the pan with foil, and let the foil go over the sides so you can cover the brisket. Get 3 of your favorite beers. (One for the brisket, the other 2 for you!) Pour the bottle of beer over the brisket. Sprinkle finely chopped onion all over. Now for the seasoning: 2 T Kosher salt 1 T Ground Black Pepper 1 tsp allspice 2 T Onion powder 1 T Garlic powder 2 T chili powder Rub this all over the top, fatty side as well as the sides. Pull the overlapping foil over the brisket. You will need to wait 10-12 hours for the brisket to be tender and ready to eat. I start mine around 8 or 9 pm the night before. 225 degrees. When I wake up in the morning there is an incredible aroma! (I don't put BBQ sauce on mine, but my recipe calls for this: 1 medium can tomato sauce 1 small can tomato paste 1 C water (or beer!) 1/2 C white vinegar 1/2 cup pineapple juice 3 tsp worstershire sauce 3 T soy sauce Heat to a simmer over medium heat, for about 10 minutes. Enjoy!
