  1. Nameless Husker, I have heard and read that Coack C has not tried to establish the run as much as he should considering this is not a run first offense. So I wonder how he is teaching our backs, are they looking for the holes, or freaking out when the OL doesn't do their jobs and open up the holes for the backs. Also keep in mind, we don't have the OLINE we did in the 80's and 90's that led us to several rushing titles, plus remember the running backs we have had over the years...Mike Rozier, L. Phillips, A. Green, these guys could make things happen on their own. The players today almost need things handed to them on a silver platter. The running backs I mentioned before were players with skills you couldn't teach, it was raw talent, our players today, seem like they need to be taught...Where does the blame lie now.
  2. Whoever said you can turn it over more is full of it. Turnovers kill you, just ask Ohio State. They had 1 turnover against Texas, and it cost them the game. Chad Pennington had I believe 5 against the Chiefs, and our old friend Joe Dailey, who isn't even in Lincoln anymore, lost his job in part because he was prone to the turnover bug. Turnovers are bad, but if that is a stat you want to win, then seasons like last season are going to happen more often.
  3. You know I keep hearing that the West Coast Offense is better than the option. I am wondering, is it better, or more popular. With the option we had much better stats, and dominating performances. The other teams came in cocky, and left tired and worn out. Teams are happy now because they aren't getting the crap beat out of them, which tells me the Huskers are not as intimidating. What I have read and heard about the Maine game, does not impress me. One writer said the old Huskers would have put Maine away in the 2nd Quarter. We are winning SOME games, however there hasn't been 1 dominating performance with this BETTER offense. I am still hearing about former Huskers, who ran the option. I know we lost games with the option, but we also won with the option, and won pretty handily. There are a lot of teams using the West Coast Offense, so I wonder if it is better or more popular.
  4. Did anyone listen to Jim Rome today. He did not have kind words for Callahan and the Huskers. He thinks we have a lot to worry about. He usually isn't this bold unless someone has made an idiot out of themselves. Did the coach do a repeat of his hillbilly crack, or is Rome being Rome. I don't believe this is the the year we return to dominance, but I am hoping it is a step in the right direction. Another step in the right direction would be to get rid of Callahan, but that is another argument. Rome says we need to beat Wake by 5 touchdowns to make a clear statement...That will not happen.
  5. OKLAHOMA GOT BEAT...it was like an early birthday present.
  6. I don't know much about WAKE, but I have seen their starting QB play when he was in High School. I used to live about 45 minutes from Benny Maucks hometown of Kenton, Ohio. He was everything. He broke state and national records, and was voted Mr. Ohio I believe 2 times. Nebraska traditionally is weak in the secondary. If this kid is given time to throw, our defenders could be in for a long day. Nebraska needs to be aggressive on the D-Line, and get in his face. How was the secondary, and D-Line last week.
  7. I am really OK with this. Does anyone even listen to him...There is anger in his voice. Especially when he talks about Nebraska. You can tell he is mad because the Huskers started to win titles the very next year after he graduated. I don't hear the passion in his voice. I don't think he misses Nebraska football. This hasn't been a recent thing either...it was going on long before the Callahan era.
  8. We are all fans of the BIG RED, and we have know some dedicated fans who have passed away. I believe this is their site as well. Who are some fans you know, that were, or maybe even more die-hard than you. The fan I want to mention is Gary Grady. He had season tickets to all home games, and even traveled to many road games. He took me to my first home game, and introduced me to the Nebraska Bookstore, where I bought my first gameday item. He loved the Huskers, and even has their logo on his stone. He will be missed. It's people like this who make Husker football so fun, because they pass the love on to others like me.
  9. College football is great, one of the greatest sports out there. In my opinion, this time of year, right before the first college game...is the best. One of the things that make it great is the tradition...all the tradition. Tailgating, pep rallies, the list goes on and on. For those who said it was a waist of time to talk about the bands...my statement to you is, you must not appreciate the whole tradition of Nebraska football on gameday. The band is as much apart of the atmosphere, as we are who call ourselves members of Husker Nation. And remember, they are fans of the BIG RED as well...that makes them members of Husker Nation just like us.
  10. I would have to say this is a make or break year for Coach Callahan. The big recruiting class might want to step up...same for the returners. Alot of people think that Coach Callahan may be let go if he repeats last years record (and he should.) So who would be next. My vote is for a current member of the Husker coaching staff. I graduated from Wayne State College, and while I was there Coach Dennis Wagner was our football coach. We won some games...some of his players went to the pros, and then he went to a California school where his O-Line blocked for a kid in the NFL (he is a starting QB.) Coach Dennis Wagner can recruit as well, and he is a wonderful guy, with a wonderful football mind. By the way HE CAN COACH.
  11. I have see the Marching BIG RED, and they are great...with maybe the biggest sound in the country. I have also seen the Ohio State Marching Band, and the Notre Dame Marching Band. With the Huskers No.1 in the band department, who do you think is next.
  12. I am origionally from Nebraska but now live in California. This site brings me closer home. I think the new member will feel right at home...it's almost like being at the game. THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME
  13. Hey Eric the Red, Wasn't sure where to send this, but I saw what you added at the end of all your messages...pretty cool. Thanks for the love and using my quote. GO BIG RED
  14. I am origionally from Southeast Nebraska...born and raised. That simply means I AM, I did not become, or move into the state from somewhere else, I always have been a fan of the BIG RED, and always will be. I now live 2 hours away from where Coach Callahan used to coach in Oakland, and they are still trying to pick up his mess from a team he took to the Super Bowl. I was at work the other day, and a pastor from Grand Island was in our store. He recently moved into Nebraska, and at the time did not have an affiliation with a college football team, so he chose Nebraska. In just a couple of years of being a fan (3 I believe) he told me that getting rid of Frank Solich had to go. This fan doesn't understand the tradition of Husker football. Frank Solich, even though from Ohio, bleeds RED. He was a player, and a coach, and coached some of the greatest running backs in the country at Nebraska. He was hand picked by a man who won 3 National Championships and could have won more. When Nebraska lost 7-8 straight bowl games...did they fire the coach, NO. I'm glad they didn't. And don't give me this bull the option was outdated, Dr. Tom won with the option, and he lost with the option. We keep saying that Callahan needs time to bring in his players and develope his system, well we didn't give Solich the time he needed. Callahan's leadership has brought in a loosing record, no bowl game, and I think the thing that bothers me the most...he doesn't embrace walk-on's anymore. Men who simply wanted to be Huskers. Frank Solich was the man for the job, because he was Nebraska football. Callahan is not Nebraska football...he is a Coach. I guess we will see if he really is a Coach this year. Keep in mind when Solich went 9-3, it was an improvement from the previous year, the end result, he was fired. Husker fans, I believe we will be better this year, but maybe by a couple of games. Can Husker Nation handle another 3-6 losses, and Callahan keep his job. It would be an improvement, but...We will wait till the end of the season to find out.
  15. I have always been a part of Husker Nation. You see Husker Nation is not just a web site, it is a family of die-hard Husker fans. I was born and raised in Falls City, NE. My first memory of the Huskers was in the early 80's when the BIG RED played Clemson. The first team I remember was the Mike Rozier team that should have won the National Championship. I am an old-style Husker fan...our rival is, and always will be Oklahoma. I know we had a crappy year last year, but when Oklahoma got beat up in the national Championship game last year, order was restored. Some of my favorite moments as a husker fan. Listening to the Huskers on radio with Kent Pavelka and his cry of, "TOUCHDOWN, TOUCHDOWN, TOUCHDOWN." Going to Notre Dame, and seeing the Huskers beat the Irish in OT (By the way, GREAT Turnout!!!) Beating the crap out of Peyton Manning, and giving Tom a National Championship for his last victory. Spending a Saturday in the third largest city in Nebraska, and watching the boys play. Meeting other Husker fans. There are a few Moments I would like to forget. The 7-8 consecutive bowl losses in the 80's/90's. I tend to remember a game in Lincoln against Washington...we were winning (I believe winning going into the 4th quarter.) and we lost. That was my first game in Lincoln. I was at the Orange Bowl when Miami shut out the Huskers 22-0, and I was also at the Citrus Bowl when Georgia Tech beat the Huskers. I was not real happy when we were taken out to the woodshed by Colorado...that was the beginning of the end...downhill from there. My favorite player(s) Mike Rozier, Tommie Frazier, Corey S. A. Green (I happened to have the chance to shake hands with A. Green...he was back on campus getting ready to get his degree.) T. Rathman, G.Wistrom, D. Brinson, D. Erstad...and all of the walk-ons who simply just wanted to be Huskers. My favorite play: Not sure what it is called, but it is when the QB takes the ball, runs behind the O-Line towards the sideline...fakes the hand-off to the F-Back, and then drops back 3-5 steps and passes the ball. No one ever figured that one out. That is it for now...I hope to post more later. GO BIG RED
