  1. I didn't know that we were throwing out credentials here. But since you started I will say that I have been a coach at the collegiate level and the high school level. I actually like bo pelini as a coach. But let's remember that this is the first time he has ever been a head coach. We did overuse Rex Burkhead last year. And by overusing Rex we lost a future running back in our program. As far as the quarterback position is concerned, I'm just asking questions. I'm just wondering what is his thinking. And I'm wondering if anyone else is thinking the same thing that I'm thinking.
  2. I have good pocket presence but i dont have a big arm. Lol
  3. Most players do look horrible when they don't get any live-action and only taking 20% of the snaps and practice. I would also like to add that we do a horrible job at developing our younger players. Didnt we just lose a running back to TCU? Can you blame him?
  4. I suppose when I say three years I am referring to most of the spring before he started. it just feels like the job has always been his. Brion Carnes has never really been given a chance. Let's not forget that we were the only school that offered Taylor Martinez as a quarterback. We are Nebraska, we should have a much better selection of quarterbacks. What anyone argue with that? And I would Hardly call 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions some success. Is that the standard now at Nebraska have we lowered our expectations so far that this has become acceptable? Where is Jamal Lord when you need him?
  5. At least Sam Keller can throw a 5 yard out
  6. I am sure that this topic has been brought up before, but I could not find a thread on it so here we go. Why is it that Brion Carnes is not able to even push Taylor Martinez for the starting position. He doesnt even get much "clean up" time during blowouts (not that there have been a ton of those anyway). I remember Cody Green battling it out with Taylor Martinez and Taylor won obviously but there was sme debate. I suppose my question is why are we so invested in Taylor Martinez? Why has Bo Pelini stuck with him so long? Would anyone argue that Brion Carnes has more natural ability as a pure passer, better throwing motion, better footwork, and comes from a better pedigree of football? Manatee High School is one of the best high schools in the country. Why has Brion Carnes never been given a chance in live action? Is there something that I am missing? Like I said, maybe I have missed other conversations on this topic. I just feel like we have all our eggs in this basket and the basket isnt producing champioship results. We cant throw verticals, bubble screens, slants, sprint outs, or 5 yard outs. Surely the coaching staff sees this. Every year we get our hopes up that Taylor Martinez is going to make this vast improvement and it just hasnt happened. He has been the QB for the better part of 3 years and has made only minimal improvement. And yet not much talk about the second QB. Why is this?
  7. We wont know anything about Taylor Martinezs improvement until he is flushed out of the pocket. To this point he has not been a dual threat QB. He has been ineffective in making the defense respect even his "scramble" ability. He is quite the anomolly in that he is a running QB that cannot scramble or throw on the run. I hope this year we let him throw more 3 step verticals to stretch the defense and lift the safeties out of the box. The coaching staff has to take some responsibility for his development, but ultimately he is what he is. Its up to the coaching staff to bulster his positive traits and conceal his negative ones. We probably wont win more than 9 or 10 games with him at QB because there are parts if the field we cannot attack offensively. Yes, 9 or 10 games is a good season but it will never be a championship season. Aren't we trying to win a championship?
  8. I wish you guys would read my previous post about Watsons lack of ability to develop QB's. Pelini kept him around longer than he should have, he was being too nice.
  9. TO would never let that debacle happen again.
  10. "Taylor Martinez" is not Bo's fault. Its hard to tell how any kid will react UNTIL they have a little success. Taylor had some, then he was a problem. It will be interesting to see how he reflects on that in the off-season. Will he be better for it and turn the corner? Will he be ready to compete for his job again as Brion Carnes, Kody Spano, Cody Green (which i dont really think will be much of a factor), and Jamal Turner will bid for his job over the next 8 months......time will tell what kind of person he really is. I think you will have your answer after spring ball. But at least wait til then.
  11. Mangino would be a great fit, for the staff and for the offense.
  12. I can say that I do not appreciate Taylor Martinezs' body language. It suggest that he is not all there as far as him and the Head Coach being on the same page. The hype came out after the k state game ad he pretty much couldnt handle it. He digressed as the season went on. He did not get better. But this begs the Question.....Who is coaching our QB's? Cody Green is still as good as the day he walked on campus....Zac Lee...may have gotten worse. Its Obvious that the Blackshirt defense is for real. Hands down the best Pass defense in the nation and arguably top five defense over all (yeah i know we give up rushing yards, but if you havent noticed....no one really sticks to the run). We dont give up a lot of points. But I think at this point, its time for a fresh face at the QB position. Offense has struggled and it only seems to get worse towards the end of the year. You cannot win championships that way. I am not much for "coach bashing", but I think it is time for a change at the OC position.
