Looking for Some Help

Recommended Posts

As a life long USC fan, I'm looking forward to our rematch in September. It should be a great game. As a Southern Cal transplant to Northeast Arkansas in 2004, I plan on driving up to Lincoln to see the game on September 15th. I've heard some great stories about the atmosphere at a Husker game so I feel not only will I be lucky to see a great game, but in a great atmosphere. As much as I love California sports teams, the crowds tend to be "laid back". Win or lose, I'm sure it will be a blast. Anyway, do any of you know of any websites that have travel packages for Cornhuskers games? What are some of the best places to stay in Lincoln? What about restaurants? My wife thinks I'm nuts for being willing to pay $300-$500 for a ticket, but I quit trying to explain the excitement of seeing a college football game "live" years ago. Thanks for any help you can send my way.

Welcome to the board Fan4USC, hope to have some riveting discussing with you and the upcoming season.

Well, you are definetly in for a treat, Husker game day in Lincoln is not something you can really you can put into words. Especially if you are use to USC "laid back" atmosphere because Lincoln Nebraska on a fall Saturday is anything but "laid back". :corndance

In my opinion the best place to stay is the Embassy Suites Hotel off of P st. It is within walking distance of the stadium and normally have events going on the night prior to the game. The rooms do fill up fast though for gameday so I would not wait. Their websight is listed below.

As far as restraunts, well if you have never had a Runsa make sure you get one of those during the game. They are a definate treat. :thumbs

For pre-game "prime up" :cheers Barry's or the N-Zone is always good ... You probably will get razed a little for wear USC colors but our fans SHOULD welcome you nicely. I would hate to think the Husker Nation would degrade itself by acting inappropriatly to any opponent. Unless they come from a state that begins with the letter C and enjoy throwing biowaste on other people. I know that alot of Huskers are looking forward to this game more then any other this year so you should be in good company anywhere around Memorial Stadium.

$300 -$500 a ticket? I personally have never paid that much at Memorial Stadium for a ticket. But this is prime time game so I would not count it out. Most games you can get a ticket from a scalper outside for a good price. I would not try that method for this game because the tickets will not be easy to come by.

MODs correct me if I am worng but I am pritty sure ESPN College Gameday will be there outside the East gate. I am sure good ole' Herbstreit :asshat will be telling the entire nation how the Nebraska teams of the 90s sucked and how great USC is, and blah blah blah.

I hope your trip to Lincoln is a memorable one and I am sure it will be a fantastic game.

GBR :restore

Thanks for the welcome! I'm getting really pumped for the game. In fact, my 80 year-old mom called me last night and said, "Get me a ticket!". My wife is ________________(fill in the blank) and feels it is pointless to go to a game when it's on TV. Maybe as time draws closer and I start to share what I've heard about college crowds in Lincoln, she might warm up to the idea. As far as the game goes, I'm think it will be close. The Cornhuskers will be ready for some revenge (is Carpenter going to be your starter?) and your offense will have a year's experience under their belt. Our defense will be killer this year, but our offense has some new faces on the O-line and we bring in a brand new crew of wide receivers. Thankfully, we have Idaho to beat up on two weeks before to get some of the kinks out before we head to Lincoln.

Carpenter? I think you mean Keller. ;)

By George I think that may have been a little dig? Even if un-intentional it was still good! (Considering the 'talk' that our backup, Ganz, may actually be competition for the job!!!)

I have had the same problem with ticket prices. The only thing I have found on the WEB starts at $440 and the seat is in Kansas! Thats why I will be watching the game on TV. If you can find tickets for less, be sure to let me know also. One reason I would like to be at the game is to see if the Husker fans are as nice at home as they say they are. They were very nice as visitors in LA last year. It's just hard to believe that in today's age people can still be nice. Its OK to be rabid and pumped up. I'm not into that laid back stuff either. Don't get me wrong Huskers, I believe your clean reputation, but I sure would like to see it first hand.

The people are nice for the most part all around the stadium (mostly because the average age is 60+) but you always have a few drunken idiots around the place (esp in the student section).

Thanks hastingshusker for the confirmation. I never thought about the stadium seat being one of the highest points in Nebraska. That is a totally different perspective. Besides if I was way in the back, I wouldn't have to worry about getting egged by one of those 60+ fans for wearing my cardinal & gold, SC Trojans, "Fight On!" T-shirt paraphernalia stuff! (Just kidding) Yeah, everybody has their youthful drunks. College kids I can understand, but when they are in their early 30's you know they don't have a life. By the way huskergirl, when you were talking about revenge, were you talking about us? I am shocked. Me too, I am excited.

Welcome Trojans!

One piece of advice for you is DON'T pay more than $150/ticket. Last year Texas was the premier game here in Lincoln, and you can easily get tickets 3-4 hours before the game without paying an arm and a leg. Unless you want the comfort of having the tickets in hand that would be the route I would go.

Another option is ebay. Generally a month or so before the game the tickets will be pretty high, but when it comes down the the last couple of weeks before the game, the prices start to drop considerably.

The last option is to wait until halftime. I'm sure when the Huskers build a 7 TD lead there will be plenty of fans that will give you their re-entry passes when they head downtown for a beer! ha :cheers

One thing is for certain if you travel to Lincoln: If you walk 5 blocks in ANY direction from the stadium you'll be safe, even in those dreaded Trojan colors!

Good luck
