Syzygyone
Ok im 27 and eversince ive started watching husker football ive been hearing about the blackshirt defence but im curious as to where it came from. Ben Some time in the 60's, Bob Devaney. I think, decided it was a good idea to have the defense have a different colored jersey. They went to the store and all they had was black. So that's what was given to the defense. It has since become a mark of achievement to be given a black shirt which up until recently denoted a starter on defense. It had been a mark of excellence, indicating that you had earned the right to take the field as a part of the most feared defensive unit in college football. Nowadays, not so much I am afraid. However, it is my fervent hope, and I think I speak for all Husker fans, that the BLACKSHIRT DEFENSE with it's in your face attitude of punishment on every play, will again become the norm at UNL.
