I have no idea what is going on right now

:dunno:wacko:

I'm with you :dunno

Well..Ya see..

The star Trek fan (Trekkie?) signed an anonymous petition that was hurled to one of our closest neighboring planets..I on the other hand am a little afraid of repercussions and anyone who watched the movie "Mars Attacks" knows that the only way to defeat Martians is by playing some Whitman.

The Yodeling seems to make their heads implode.. chuckleshuffle

Well, it wasn't anonymous. It was done by the Planetary Society, of which I am a member of. And if the Martians come looking for me, I might...might, be able to pull off a yodel. :box And if anyone watched "War of the Worlds" (The original not the lame Tom Cruise remake), they know that giving them a cold will also work.

I am now dumber for reading this thread......

How can that be Touchdown Tommie? I bet you didn't even know that Mars was 247,927,105.7 (I see that I got it wrong above) miles away. Or that in 3 months, the entire lander will be covered by 3.28083 Feet of Carbon-Dioxide ice. How can that make one dumber? :)

Okay, science lesson over. I'm outta here! :woo

I bet you didn't even know I give a sh*t!!!!! It is a complete waste of money.

As long as it isn't your money, you shouldn't. No wait, you said "I bet you didn't even know I give a sh*t!!!" So that means you do care! No wait, then you say it's a complete waste of money. You kind of contradict yourself, don't you...Hey, is this the real Touchdown Tommie? You sound just like him!

This may be true, but different people have different interests/priorities.

I probably spend too much time on here when I should be out making mopre money..But this is sometimes more interesting.

(Except in the offseason-I shouldn't keep responding to topics like this) <_<

There's plenty of people around to worry about overpopulation or gas prices.

So NASA does not get any money from the government???? And yes, I could care less about some crappy little robot rolling across Mars. I think there are other things we need to be worrying about than if there was/is ice on Mars!

Well, it's not rolling, it's a "Lander", not a Rover! And it's looking for signs of life in the ice on Mars, not for ice itself. So, the total amounts (in real dollars) that NASA has been budgeted from 1958 to 2007 amounts to $419.420 billion dollars -- an average of $8.559 billion per year. Measured in real terms (Meaning: if the value of $1.00 in 2007 equaled the value of $1.00 in 1958 according to an unspecified inflation index), the figure is $618.412 billion, or an average of $12.681 billion dollars per year over its forty-nine year history.

For comparison, NASA's 2008 budget of $17.3 billion represents about 0.6% of the $2.9 trillion United States federal budget. The Iraq War costs $474 billion approximately. Or 1.6% of the $2.9 trillion Budget. Boy, what we could spend that money on!

Or Homelessness, or unemployment, or terrorism...So true about the off season responses. But thanks for the support.

I'm on Mars, how about you?

Back away from that pipe, dude!

:rollin Good one, Bill!
