For stat lovers. The subject is the toughest (college)stadiums to play at. The answers are always - Autzen, Baton Rouge, College Station, Knoxville and the Swamp.

Well, UM's record at the Big House the last couple of decades is considerably better than all of those schools. LSU and Oregon, in particular, can't even hold a candle to us. Some night games sure wouldn't hurt either. Maybe then, people might mention the Big House more often when the "tough places to play at" subject comes up.

Anyway, I looked up how all the schools mentioned (plus Neb, FSU, Okla, Ohio St, USC, etc.) have done at home the last 30 years. If you like stats, here are my findings....

nice stats, Lincoln is a tough place to come into and be able to stay focused. I have been to a few other schools for road games and although notre dame has its magic, and the big house has alot of people, and colorado has its ........well I better just leave that alone. I would not want to have any other place to play at then Lincoln.

Of course I am biased but what the heck.

i find all those stats impressive, but if i remember correctly isnt the big house the largest college stadium? doesnt it seat over one hundred thousand people? id be pretty intimidated to play there, and the collesium in LA too, that place looks pretty big. the horseshoe at ohio state, the swamp looks frickin huge too,

isnt memorial stadium's max attendance like 78k? its been so long i have forgotten. what about all those additions, prolly pushed it over 80k but i just dont know, some correct information would be nice on this matter,

off topic: what sport has the largest playing surface? polo. 300 yards by 160 yards by 200 yards if unboarded. now you can impress your coworkers with a wee bit of sports trivia

I think people don't rate Memorial higher because our fans are such good fans. They don't get rowdy and throw stuff (although I was in the Great Cup Fight of '90, got cut), they actually applaud the other team.

The fans at NU are the greatest, that's proven by the sellout streak...this prompts me to come up with another poll...

I went to NU vs. ND back in 2000. It was a really impressive place. The entire place...campus, stadium, everything is beautiful, clean, and impeccably kept. Not one flower along the sidewalk was trampled.

The fans were extremely respectful, every place you saw a TV was playing Rudy and it was an awesome experience. The thought of being on the same campus, in the same stadium of the 4 horsemen, Joe Montana, Tim Brown, etc. was enough to give you goosebumps.

That being said, maybe it was where i was sitting and the fact that there were soooo many Big Red fans there, but the stadium lacked the intesity/insanity that you feel in every game here in Lincoln. The pregame and aftergame seemed lame too. South Bend is pretty small and there's nowhere near the downtown environment we have in Lincoln. The campus seemed quiet enough it was almost eerie.

Overall grade: Tradition/mystique-a small step above

Atmosphere-NU in a landslide

Fans-NU for our total lack of reservation, yet ability to show respect

My sister and brother-in-law lived in Seattle back in '96 and I got to go see a Huskie game up there. Petty nice stadium with the view of the lake. There were boats that would pull up in the lake to watch the game. The stadium upper deck was very steep and kind of gave a virtigo affect. A track is around it so the fans are not too close to the field. No way does it compare to a Husker game. I don't know if it was who they were playing or not ( San Diago State) but the fans were not too into it. Nice natural surrounding though.

Just think if we had a 100,000+ seat stadium in Lincoln. We would definently be the loudest, and certainly one of the toughest places to play then. Lincoln is one of the toughest now, but I would bet most opposing teams look forward to the challenge as well as the hospility that we Husker fans bring to the game.

For a stadium that holds more than 100,000 penn state does not compare to lincoln at all. The fans do not know much about the game, and for how many people are there, they arent loud at all... heinz field was louder when nebraska played there, and penn states' almost double the size of heinz field
