Eric the Red
Nebraska eliminates Miami Fox Sports: LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - For only the third time since Jim Morris took over Miami's storied baseball program in 1994, the Hurricanes won't end the season at the College World Series. Football team knows feeling BY GEORGE RICHARDS grichards@herald.com LINCOLN, Neb. - Some of the greatest moments in University of Miami football history have come at the expense of Nebraska. For the first time Friday, a major Miami program visited Lincoln as the Hurricanes' baseball team opened up a Super Regional at Hawks Field -- in the shadow of the Huskers' Memorial Stadium. A sea of red greeted the Hurricanes, as some fans arrived at the stadium as early as 4 a.m. to get their spot on the rain-soaked grass berm at the minor-league park. Miami is used to visiting Nebraska -- the Canes have been to the College World Series in nearby Omaha 21 times -- but Friday's experience was something new. Kenny Calhoun, Bernie Kosar, Warren Sapp, Gino Torretta, Ken Dorsey or Andre Johnson were not on hand, yet Nebraska's faithful greeted Miami's baseball team as if it was somehow related to a football team that has won three of its five national titles against the Cornhuskers. The standing-room only crowd was announced at 8,308 with only a handful wearing Miami colors. ''We were dominated by the crowd,'' said UM coach Jim Morris, who watched Miami's 37-14 thrashing of Nebraska in the 2002 Rose Bowl from the sideline. ``They were a great crowd and really into it from the first inning. I thought the first inning was like the ninth inning that's how loud they were.'' By the way, Nebraska claimed the 1994 national title by beating Miami -- in the Orange Bowl, of course.
