Husker_x
Boca Raton - Injuries have hit the Owls in a vulnerable area, as the defensive line will be without a starter and key reserve when the Owls play at No. 24 Nebraska. Coach Howard Schnellenberger said Andy Czuprynski (ankle) and Jamere Johnson (knee, ankle) would both miss the season opener. Schnellenberger said Czuprynski, a starter at tackle, should be back for Owls second game, Sept. 19 at South Carolina, but Johnson, No. 2 on the depth chart at end, could miss that game. That takes two players out of the rotation at the line, which is a problem when facing a team with an offense like Nebraska, which averaged 450.8 yards per game last season. "We have had our share," Schnellenberger said of the injuries. Starting defensive end Kevin Cyrille said the defensive line worked hard in the offseason and is prepared to play. "We still have guys who can get the job done," Cyrille said. Quick hits Spitale back: There was some good news, as Schnellenberger said starting offensive lineman Carl Spitale, who injured his neck two weeks ago, had been cleared and was full-go Tuesday. That means the offense will have all its starters in place for Nebraska. Practice cut short: The Owls, who started practiced at 3:30, were chased off the field around 5 p.m. by thunderstorms and the rest of practice was cancelled. "We can't look at it any other way than a practice stoppage by a higher authority and we bow to His wishes and we'll make up for it with better practices in the sunshine," Schnellenberger said. knapplc
Sad to hear about the injuries, but I doubt it'll change the outcome much. Quote Link to comment
redout22
Their O is completly healthy so it will still be a good game. Quote Link to comment
OwlFamily
Yup, Hopefully its just for a game or two. As someone said, our Defense is not what will give us a chance at this game, its our offense and they are all healthy and back in place. I didnt think we could get much pressure on your QB in the first place, and this will just make that even less certain. Your gonna score, I have no doubts about that. Quote Link to comment
Igetbored216
Yeah, from what I have seen, the Owls don't play much defense. Quote Link to comment
