Offensive Guard:

1) Big - Offensive lineman are probably the largest players on the field - they are normally about 320 pounds!!! They stuff up the line as best as they can to keep the QB safe and able to pass. I would therefore say this poster should be one who is "long-winded" and likes to write a lot on any particular subject. One sentence answers aren't this guy's modus operandi - this poster likes to get all the ideas out of his head on every reply he makes.

2) Pulling ability - We've all heard of the "pulling guard!" On the snap, this guy can laterally move behind his other line mates to create a running lane on the other side of the field - especially on sweeps and "counter trey" misdirection plays. The nominee likes to try to use his wit and cleverness to "pull" an argument to his side of the field. He'll also "counter" once in a while in order to create an pro-con scenario.

3) Leverage - The Offensive Guard needs to use good leverage to keep the opposing tackles or ends from getting around them. It's all about "staying low" and "getting dirty" - you know, hands under the armpits once in a while! He might not always be the first person in a conversation (lower in the order for good positioning!), but he knows what he's talking about and likes to add his two cents to get into the conversation (in the trenches)!

4) "Right" (or Left) Hand Man: The guard, who plays, next to the Center and QB, is in charge of all the inside plays. He has to work well with the rest of the offense. He is in on every play, but doesn't always get the credit or make the big play. But he is there regardless. He is always posting, but his posts may not be the most glamorous, but they are there and have a role.

We need two guards, so be sure to vote for the TWO people you feel best fit this description.

Criminy..

These thing are going up "lickity Split".

Why don't you slow these things down to last the whole dreadfully long off-season?

I just noticed the voting thing was happening and went straight to the Tight Ends thread to hopefully see some witty remarks about/from CY and he wasn't even nominated yet...

So I thought, "Why not nominate him myself"? He played TE for some unfortunate eastern school with an I-beam on their helmets, and I always wanted to be a TE on my highschool teams because I had the biggest hands and never dropped a pass durring pregame warmups..

But the voting was over and the thread was locked up after only 3 days of existance?

What else can you expect from our elected officials, though..trying to get junk like the health bill passed while nobody notices?

Then!

Then, I open this thread and I see I have 3 votes which is nice, but it's for a position that I only enjoyed as a Sophmore when I pulled too quick and accidently got the handoff and scored untouched by our starting Defense durring a soap scrimmage.

At least I got to start at OLB/DE by my Sr year..which more than made up for forever being the third string guard who never bothered learning the playbook.

EDIT:

Dang!

After reading the first two qualifications, I'm starting to see what Bio-Ted (my HS Coach) was seeing.

But I already voted for two other fellers.

Interest won't last all off season. We're barely getting 1/4 of the active members to vote as it is. The longer this drags on the less participation there will be. I may even float the idea of leaving nomination and voting threads up for only two days next year.
