Eric the Red
Player: Colin McCarthy Hometown: Clearwater, FL Position: LB Height: 6’1” Weight: 222 40 time: 4.51 Visit Date: Nov. 11, 2005 (KSU) Scholarships offered: Over 20 including: Penn St., Ohio St., Nebraska, Miami, Indiana Favorites: Signed with Miami Rankings/Stars: Rivals: #21/ Bid Red Report: NR/ Assessing the talent: What an absolute joy to watch. Rivals had 7 reels on him and very rarely do they show a lot of defense, but there were six. You want to talk about a kid who’s a ball hawk. A kid that wants to lay the boom and make every tackle, this is your guy. Just about every play was a highlight. He looks like he played at about 180 pounds last year and he may very well have, but it didn’t matter. He can chase, play the pass, blitz, play very strong run support, and hit. The one drawback right now is his weight, but with his frame I see another 15 maybe 20 pounds and a move to SS or other similar positions. His senior season he may never leave the field. He finished the season with 163 total tackles on defense including a dozen for a loss. He added four sacks, five interceptions, two caused fumbles, and one defensive touchdown. Throw in another 600 yards receiving on 30 grabs. Odds of becoming a Cornhusker: 0% I think he’s really got his heart set on Florida, but well see if Phil Elmassian can work his magic again in the Sunshine State. Quote Link to comment
Red November
I love these kids who are undersized, but play the butt off. But it doesn't look so good? Quote Link to comment
StuckinChicago
Has florida solicited an offer yet??? If they have, we might be in some serious trouble. I watched the same video on this kid, and he is exactly the kind of player we want. He has an absolute nose for being in the right place at the right time and he takes excellent angles and plays the position how it should be played. Give him a redshirt and a couple of years of working out and he could be an absolute terror on the football field. Quote Link to comment
BigRedJake
Fast little linebacker too. Quote Link to comment

StuckinChicago
He just plays the position naturally. It is just awesome to watch. He reads the play like a book and then takes a great angle and absolutely flies. You watch these plays and initally think that someone missed a blocking assignment, but then you see that he just used his speed to slip in behind the lead blocker, or run underneath him and blow the whole play up. An absolute joy to watch. Reminds me of Brian Urlacher when he is playing well. Doesnt take on blockers because he doesnt need to. Quote Link to comment

He's fast, tough and smart. But is he big enough. What position are the Huskers looking at him for?? Can we get him out of Florida? Quote Link to comment

Maybe he could play the SAM. Quote Link to comment
NamelessHusker
Even with the visit, i would still put NU's chances at 5% at the moment. Keep in mind he basically had us on the outside looking in and when he got injured this year and several schools backed off of him because of it, he put us right in the mix again. If we are a "Factor" in his decison, we would be going up against Ohio St, and Penn St as serious threats. With him having family around Penn St, they would seem to have the upper hand, even though he hasn't visited. Quote Link to comment
kramer
I haven't seen or heard any reports on this guy yet. He was the most important guy. Did he make the trip? Quote Link to comment
