Jermarcus Hardrick took tough road to major-college football

By Curt McKeever

Jermarcus Hardrick is one of those kids marketing folks love.

First off, he's the only player on the Nebraska football team's depth chart to have his nickname printed alongside his given name.

He's also got a heartwarming story that will remind you of fellow Mississippian Michael Oher, whose real-life, rags-to-riches tale was the basis of the 2009 movie "The Blind Side."

But, really, all "Yoshi" Hardrick is interested in at the moment is getting a better vantage point for when the Huskers take the field right before kickoff.

"I want to jump with Bo," said Hardrick, who wasn't anywhere close to his fired-up head coach when the Huskers ran onto the field before last week's season opener against Western Kentucky. "When I get my first start, I'll try to get up to the front."

Notice that the 6-foot-7 and 320-pound left tackle didn't say "if" he gets his first start. Then again, why would he have doubts?
