Conference competition kicks off this week and the Huskers will be tested against #11 Iowa State in a match to be nationally televised on ESPNU. The match will be played in the Ames High School because the August flooding in Iowa damaged Hilton Coliseum. I heard today that they are borrowing the sport court that Nebraska uses at Devaney to make it more appealing for national TV.

 

Nebraska leads the all-time series 77-1, with Iowa State's only win coming in Lincoln last season, but head coach Christy Johnson-Lynch, who was the setter on Nebraska's 1995 National Championship team, has done a great job building this program. The Cyclones have not lost a match since their opener against Florida, and swept nationally-ranked Northern Iowa last weekend. The Cyclones' defense can frustrate opponents, and libero Ashley Mass is one of the very best in the country and was a first team All-American last season. OH Victoria Henson was also an All-American last year (third team). OH Rachel Hockaday, who had 18 kills against the Huskers in the Cyclones' victory last year, is out for the season with a torn ACL.

I love me some CJ. I hope she wins every match she coaches - all but two per year, that is.

 

When we're in the Big 10 next year I'll be a closet ISU fan. But not until then.

BTW, Nebraska is letting Iowa State use the court for the rest of the season since no more matches will be played at Devaney Center. The Ames High School gym is lined for basketball, with extra white lines to mark volleyball dimensions. This will be a big improvement.

Nebraska came back from a 6 point deficit midway through the match and Huskers were able to make a big run with a few key blocks to get back into the match.

Yes. We had 8 service errors tonight with I believe 4 of them by Kayla Banwarth. Good to get the win but we definetly got to get that figured out.
