Hey guys, went out early this morning and got me some coats. Good deal... $80 for two of em.

Anyway, I also need an iPod, and with it being Black Friday and all, I was curious what everybody thinks is the best deal on one. I want an iPod Touch, and I don't know who could legitimately fill up a 32 or 64 gig if they're just using it for music or movies. If they treat it like a computer maybe... Maybe someday I'll have to buy a 64 GB one and try and fill it up with porn, just for the challenge ;). Man would that be a huge waste of time.

Sorry for rambling... Anyway, point is, I just want an 8 gig. I'm thinking the best deal is to buy a refurbished one directly from Apple online for 150 bucks. It comes refurbished, guaranteed, with a new battery, a big selling point. It says "Previous generation," for the model I'm looking at, which I assume means its a 2nd gen one, because it has 36 hrs. of music playback life, same as 2G.

Also, it'd come with a one year warranty, which I really only care about to get the battery replaced. They'll do it for up to 6 months after purchase for free, and then from 6 months to 1 year I read there was a 30 dollar processing fee. But you can buy an extra Apple Protection Plan for 48 bucks on Amazon, which would allow me to get the battery replaced up to 2 years after purchase date. You can buy that up til a year after purchase date.

Confusing, but here's a summary: I'm thinking about getting the 150 dollar 2G refurb iPod Touch, and then possibly getting the 48 dollar protection plan to extend the warranty (to get bad battery replaced eventually) to two years. Good deal? What say you?

I'm curious if you all think this is the best deal, and whether the extra warranty would be a waste of cash.

Refurbished iTouches are a great value, speaking from someone who has one. However, understand that if you do go refurb, you're missing out on the current gen version, which has a faster processor, better battery life, the two cameras, etc.

Apple's warranty is so nice, because if there is anything wrong with your iPod, you can take it into a Genius bar at your nearest apple store and they'll just say "Oh, I see, well here's a brand new one!"

If you don't care about any of the stuff that the 2nd gen doesn't have to offer, I would say absolutely get one, but don't buy the extended warranty right away. Just renew it after yours is about to run out.

Hmm... thanks Landlord. I'm thinking that's what I'm going to do. I was also going to wait on the extra warranty, which I'll eventually get on Amazon for 48 bucks as opposed to Apple's 59.

So I knew they'd replace my iPod if there was a "DEFECT," but it was my understanding before that if I messed up my iPod somehow and it wasn't just general hardware failure (i.e., I dropped it and it stopped working vs. it just ceasing to work on it's own) that they wouldn't replace it. Are you saying if I dropped it and it failed I'd get a new one?
