Texas injuries in NU game

Not sure why the injuries to the texas players that seemed to happen every time the husker offense got some momentum was never discussed on a national level. CBS is now talking about a similar plot by Cal used to slow down the oregon offense.

Cal suspends assistant for fake injury strategy

There was a whole lot of uproar and outrage coming from the Pacific Northwest following Oregon's win over Cal a few weeks ago, as there was plenty of evidence that Cal players were faking injuries on defense in an attempt to slow the Oregon offense down during the Ducks' 15-13 win on November 13. It was rather obvious in this video that a Cal defensive lineman wasn't really hurt when he went down, unless a sniper in the crowd shot him in the leg with a BB gun.

Well, head coach Jeff Tedford denied it at first, but now it seems that the head coach has changed his tune. Cal suspended defensive line coach Tosh Lupoi over the weekend for being the mastermind behind the evil plot.

"This is a young coach who made a mistake. We make mistakes in life a lot," said Cal AD Sandy Barbour in a statement. "He stood up and he accepted responsibility for it. The head coach accepted responsibility for it and I accepted responsibility for it. That's what we do as educators."

While Lupoi may have fallen on his sword, Tedford has no plans on firing him.

"I respect him a great deal," Tedford said. "In the heat of the battle and trying to get a substitution in, he used poor judgment. That's no reflection on his character whatsoever or his love for Cal and the program. ... He's a great football coach. A mistake was made. I'm sure we'll learn from it as a whole. We will make sure that we stand for the right things and move forward."

Yes, I'm sure Tedford and his coaching staff will learn from it in the future. Next year, they'll make sure that their players know to fake the injury before being sent out there, instead of waiting for a signal from a rogue coach on the sideline. Whom I'm sure was acting alone.

The Nebraska-Texas deal was not discussed nationally because Nebraska is not an up-tempo team that thrives on no-huddle fast paced. Nebraska flat out lost that game free of conspiracy.

This is true, but that doesn't mean that Texas players weren't feigning injury. However, this "faking injury" thing happens all the time.

Has everyone forgotten Suh's "injury" against Oklahoma last year?

Suh's injury timeout was just a bit less noticeable than that Cal Dlineman. I'll give him a D+ for that bit of acting.

If you seen footage of the Cal D-Lineman's "injury", you'd give him an Epic Fail. He threw himself down on the ground feigning injury worse than a 2 year old does when he/she is throwing a temper

So it's right up there with a soccer injury? haha

There were some calls that went way against NU. the pass interference on Niles on the 10 yard line about 5 minutes after NU was flagged for the same thing. The pass interference they called on Kyler Reed when a linebacker ran through him. The no call on no 32 when he shoved down Taylor long after a play ended, this was right in front of the Back Judge. NU didn't help themselves but there were a lot of dubious calls in the game too.

Good call, but it's actually worse. Check it out:

That is hilarious, agreed, much better than soccer guy that writhes in pain until the "magic spray" is applied.

In an interesting artice from the Journal Star this morning about number of plays per game:Linky-Journal Star

Stats can be deceiving. Couple the average plays per game on offense with the number of plays per game the defense has to play and compare those. Nebraska averaged 65.3 plays per game - BUT - our opponents only averaged 65.8 plays per game - second lowest in the Big12 behind Texas at 65.3 plays per game.

All it really means is we slow the game down and in so doing, we're taking points off the board on both sides. It also shows that the most pass-happy offenses run more plays. Makes sense since the clock is stopped half the time.

Reference: N.C.A.A. Season-To-Date Game Lengths/Plays Thru 27-NOV-10

You could also couple number of plays run with number of points scored. In that list, you'd see Nebraska is #2 behind Oklahoma State.

Reference: N.C.A.A. Season-To-Date #2 Average Listing Thru 27-NOV-10 Offense

Team Plays Points Points per Play

OK State 76.8 539 7.02

Nebraska 65.3 405 6.2

K State 65.6 403 6.14

Baylor 72.3 391 5.41

Missouri 70.3 364 5.18

OK 87.7 450 5.13

TX Tech 80.8 385 4.76

TX A&M 80.9 382 4.72

Colorado 70.6 290 4.11

TX 73.2 285 3.89

Iowa St 69 260 3.77

Kansas 68.6 205 2.99

Of course, none of this really means anything -- it's just interesting.

If we could figure out from stats who was going to win the game, we wouldn't bother playing it. :P

Bad calls yes, conspiracy no. That game was lost because of poor tackling and dropped passes.
