I really hope AP does play, then the hillbillies ;) won't have anything to complain about when they lose.

Welcome aboard chuckd! Hey I read in your profile that you currently attend the U -- be sure to tell some buddies about the board - we could use some more student perspective on things. :horns2

OU football notebook, 10/28: Stoops optimistic about Peterson’s return

BY CURT McKEEVER / Lincoln Journal Star

Friday, Oct 28, 2005 - 02:04:42 am CDT

Tailback Adrian Peterson, the runner-up for the 2004 Heisman Trophy who has missed most of the Sooners’ last four games because of a sprained right ankle, has practiced this week and coach Bob Stoops said there’s “a decent to good chance” the sophomore will be ready for Saturday’s game against Nebraska.

Peterson sprained his ankle in the second quarter of an Oct. 1 contest against Kansas State. He saw limited action against Texas and Kansas the next two weeks before sitting out last Saturday against Baylor.

While Stoops sounded optimistic, he acknowledged that “there’s a difference in practice and making those cuts on game day.”

Peterson came off the bench in OU’s 30-3 win against Nebraska last season because he had dislocated his shoulder the previous week against Texas A&M, and finished with 58 yards on 15 carries.

Also expected to return Saturday after missing the past two games with injuries are wide receiver Travis Wilson and cornerback Eric Bassey.

-- IT LOOKS LIKE GRASS: Saturday’s game will mark the first time this season Oklahoma has played on an artificial surface. It also will be just the second true road game for the Sooners, who lost at UCLA in their first one. Two weeks ago, they beat Kansas in a contest held in Arrowhead Stadium at Kansas City, Mo. They also played Texas in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.

-- VENABLES TO COACH: Although Brent Venables’ mother died Tuesday, Oklahoma’s defensive coordinator still plans to coach Saturday. Nancy Schumaker died in Norman, Okla., after a long battle with cancer. She was 58.
