WYHusk
This guy Paul Myerberg writes some pretty cerebral stuff on CFB. Including this article on Rex: Nebraska’s Rex Burkhead is a Friday night legend, a walking, talking character from “Friday Night Lights” come to life minus the soap opera twists. At powerhouse Plano High School in Texas, Burkhead was nicknamed “Superman” not just for his on-field exploits, which were otherworldly, but also for his leadership qualities, which were nearly as legendary. Any number of kids in Plano — say, anywhere from age 1o to 16, 17, 18 — have pictures of Burkhead on their bedroom wall, emulating not just his record-setting rushing output but also the way he seemed to embody the all-American qualities born and bred in the boys in that football-crazed state. He’s a legend on Fridays, a TV character come to life, and his legend is growing on Saturdays. ... Very complimentary, and he got NEB down. Nice. http://www.presnapre...a-legend-grows/ How many stars was Rex out of HS, anyway? Quote Link to comment
Hammerhead
Rex definitely made the right call coming to Nebraska. He's exactly what Husker football is all about. Quote Link to comment
Chaddyboxer
I believe rex was a 4-star athlete by rivals. Quote Link to comment
knapplc
Rex was a four-star by Rivals, a three-star by Scout. Here's his initial writeup by Chamrock in our Recruiting section. ESPN had him pegged pretty good: Player: Rex Burkhead Hometown: Plano, TX Position: ATH Height: 5'11" Weight: 191 lbs. 40 time: 4.5 Visit Date: Scholarships offered: Nebraska, Kansas, Texas Tech, LSU, Auburn, Alabama, Cal, Michigan, Virginia Favorites: Rankings/Stars: Rivals: Big Red Report: Assessing the talent: ESPN evaluation says "Burkhead is one of those junk yard dogs that makes your roster meaner and tougher and we love that about him. He's a warrior, throwback type of player that will fight, scrap and sellout to get the job done and make the play." Hard-nosed John Lynch qualities that likely projects at strong safety and special teams. Old school baller. Rex the "junkyard dog"...I like it. More here: http://insider.espn.go.com/ncf/recruiting/...26season%3d2009 Odds of becoming a Cornhusker: 20%. I gotta believe this guy will give NU and Pelini a good look. Thank GOD those odds rose quite a bit. Also, LOL at no early offer from Texas, A&M, etc. They really screwed the pooch on Rex. Kinda like 'Bama and Auburn didn't throw in on Ameer Abdullah hard and heavy in the early going. Those are two HUGE gets by this staff, right outta these schools' backyard. Quote Link to comment
