A little NU-Penn State History

Recommended Posts

Here is a little of our history with Penn State:

The Nittany Lions and the Cornhuskers have played a total of 13 times against each other. The first game they played was in 1920 and Penn State won 20-0 at home. They didn’t play again until 1949 and Penn State won once again 22-7. The teams have played seven times since Joe Paterno has been coach for the Nittany Lions. The teams have not played since 2003 and will play for the first time in 2011. Out of all the games in which they have matched up Penn State has won 7 of the 13 games. Penn State has only lost one game at home against Nebraska and that was in 1980.

Henry Schulte was the coach of Cornhuskers and Hugo Bezdek was the coach of the Nittany Lions when they first played. Nebraska has seen five different coaches come through their program since they first played against Joe Paterno. This will be the first year Nebraska is part of the Big Ten Conference but they have won five National Championships since their first season in 1890. The only game that was played at a neutral location was at the first ever Kick-Off Classic in East Rutherford, N.J. Penn State lost to Nebraska 44-6.

The last time we played Penn State was in 2003. Solich was the coach and the game was in Lincoln:

"The Cornhuskers running game dominated Penn State, as the Huskers won 18-10. Nebraska rushed for 337 yards on 72 carries and held the ball twice as long as Penn State, who managed only 44 yards on 21 carries."
