HUSKER 37
http://content.usatoday.com/communities/gameon/post/2012/01/baron-davis-suffers-a-very-painful-typographical-error/1 Baron Davis is living proof that you can't believe everything you read in newspapers. And in Davis' case he's overjoyed that the terminology the Charlotte Observer used to describe his injury is totally inaccurate. With Davis' Knicks scheduled to play the Bobcats last night, the Observer made note of the "herniated disc" that has kept the guard sidelined. Problem was, there was a typographical error in "disc." Observer executive sports editor Mike Persinger did his best to explain in a clarification today, writing: "Observer reporter Rick Bonnell wrote the preview box, and in it he wrote that Davis, a former Charlotte Hornet, is recovering from a 'herniated disc' in his back. The box was edited by an experienced copy editor, the reporter's first line of defense, and moved along in the production process as written. "The next stop was a final read by a second editor, another experienced employee who recognized that 'herniated disc' doesn't conform to the newspaper's style for that type of injury, and that it should be 'herniated disk.' That editor tried to type in the correction, but ended up with an unfortunate typo. "Because part of that second editor's job is to send stories to the typesetter, the typo was moved along without another set of eyes to catch the error, and that led to what you saw in today's paper. And no doubt to a lot of snickering. "Baron, get well soon." The Observer's website also posted the a copy of how the mistake appeared in print, with the inference that Davis was seriously hobbled in his nether region. Davis, who always has been known for having a great sense of humor, had fun with the typo on his Twitter page, tweeting that everyone should "Excuse the person from the Observer who made a typo." He added that, "My Goldmember is not herniated." Quote Link to comment
NUance
I would have used that typo to my advantage. Maybe gotten some massage therapy for my "ailing" member. Quote Link to comment
Mavric
These injuries are becoming more common. A year or so ago a Golf Channel reporter (she is female - you can decide if that's relevant or not) reported Tiger Woods had a "bulging disc" with the same problem. Quote Link to comment
