cornhuskers4ever
My wife and I are going to be moving from our apartment into a town home at the end of this month, and I plan to have the router in the living room for use of our PS3/Laptop, and I am going to have our tower computer in the basement. I was wondering what options I have to get internet in the basement if I should run a cord down there somehow (see if cox can do a connection thru the wall), or if I need a internet "booster" that I can use to connect "wirelessly" to the tower. Any info and costs are appreciated I have a Cisco Type N router that does the job at our apartment, but everything is hooked up by the "phone" cable. The blue wire to the PS3, the tower and laptop. Lyons in the Sea of Red.
You could run an ethernet cord through house someway, but I would suggest getting a wireless usb adapter for your tower, you can get them relatively cheap. 30 bucks or so. Quote Link to comment
strigori
Just get an adapter for the tower. They are cheap and unless your basement doubles as a bomb shelter, it won't effect reception. It would certainly be cheaper than having Cox run wires through the house. My game tower is on a different floor from the router, and I have no issues at all. As what you have sounds like a wireless router, you just need to set up a wireless network with all your gear. Its pretty easy, takes about 2 min per machine once you know how to do it. I hope you changed the password and enabled encryption regardless of if you were wired or wireless. Quote Link to comment
