*****UPDATE***** "A Huskerboard Cause: Walk for Children" SO CLOSE!!!!!

Recommended Posts

I wish I could have donated more. I hope you reach your goal for your son. I had no idea your son had apraxia. I too know exactly what it is to have a child that can't communicate through speech. You know they want to say so much, they just can't. My thoughts and prayers to your son.

I also shared the link to your fundraiser via Facebook if thats alright.

Thank you for your donation True2tRA.

Thank you for sharing this on FB.

I'm sure everyone here who has children had a time when your child had "monsters under their bed." Well, what if they couldn't tell you that? How they must feel and react to try and communicate this to you without being able to speak.

Keep up the great work guys.

If you can, please donate. Any amount is appreciated. @ http://secure.apraxi...walk/ewicherski

Huskerboard.com members donated an additional $305 in the past few days. That brings our site total to $950. Our goal is $1,000......SO CLOSE!!!!!

Remember no donation is too small!!!!! Folks have donated $5, $20, $100. Everything matters, everything counts.

Several of you have PM'd me asking about more information or wanting to share a story about apraxia......PLEASE KEEP THEM COMING. There a joy to read.

PM me so I can place the graphic in your signature.

An example of what Apraxia "sounds like."

There are all kinds a levels, from those who simple have some slurred, slow speech or missing endings to those who can hardly produce sound.

Walk for Children with Apraxia of Speech

Take a moment and consider this scenario. Imagine for the next 12 hours you are unable to speak using words. You have a voice, but nothing intelligible comes out. You can hear and understand everything around you. Take it a step farther. Put 25 marbles in your mouth that magically stay in your mouth and not go down your throat. How frustrated and exhausted would you become from not being able to say anything when someone accuses you of something you didn't do, when someone makes a horrific comment about your political party or religion, or your beloved sports team. You know exactly what you want to say, but can't. Now imagine living years like this....this is living with apraxia.

My name is Eric a.k.a. Eric the Red, co-owner of Huskerboard.com and Huskernation.com. My son Ben has Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS). He is the hardest working person I know because he has to be. Ben is unable to communicate using words. He has a huge heart, smiles constantly, and gives the best hugs. He is intelligent, wants to learn and strives for approval. He lives with apraxia.

Childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) is a motor speech disorder. Children with CAS have problems saying sounds, syllables, and words. This is not because of muscle weakness or paralysis. The brain has problems planning to move the body parts (e.g., lips, jaw, tongue) needed for speech. The child knows what he or she wants to say, but his/her brain has difficulty coordinating the muscle movements necessary to say those words.

I would appreciate any donation you and your family could make as "I walk for Ben" this September 20, 2014 in Grand Island, Nebraska. Thank you for supporting me, the Childhood Apraxia of Speech Association and the Walk for Apraxia. Every dollar counts! Your donation makes a difference and helps to support apraxia programs and research!
