zoogs
This is the finale in the OWH series on Mike Riley. Centered around Riley's mentee, Paul Chryst, current Wisconsin head coach. http://www.omaha.com/huskers/new-badger-coach-chryst-says-riley-showed-him-nice-guys/article_8cbdaee0-7a01-51ef-8ddf-6a0b803a9494.html The next two years, 1991 and 1992, shaped Chrysts offensive philosophy. More important: Those two years convinced Chryst that elite coaching didnt necessitate mistreating subordinates and neglecting family. Until he met Riley, he wasnt sure. For a young coach, it was like, Yep, I can do it the right way, Chryst says. Through that opportunity, I saw this is the way you do it. Also, some great stuff in the sidebar from Riley himself on some of his own mentors. He names Bear Bryant, Ad Rutschman, and John Robinson. 1 Quote Link to comment

DelK
My impression of Bear Bryant was not that he was a caring, sympathetic coach who cared about ALL the players. I'm glad to have HCMR correct that. Quote Link to comment
