  1. Hopefully Sparty gives us a good blueprint on how to handle him defensively. Keeping the ball on the ground with long, clock-eating drives would be just the thing on the other side of the ball (read: let Rex carry a lot.)
  2. I love nutbag (no pun intended) fans like this.
  3. Pelini nailing a reporter is one thing, some potential to backfire but a good way to blow off steam--Osborne had at least one spat with the media (http://www.nytimes.c...t-nebraska.html). Visibly losing composure on the sidelines like the A&M game is another thing--hopefully *that* never happens again.
  4. It was more the O-line looking bad and getting pushed around in the first half than Taylor looking bad. He does have atrocious passing mechanics and has locked in on his receivers in the past--he did a pretty good job with the latter tonight, and progress in a young QB is a Good Thing. He also has a poor pocket presence and showed some of that tonight, but I wouldn't put all of that on him. Pass blocking was an issue as was picking up blitzes. He also has a tremendous upside, and that's what we all love to see. Good to see him get some solid action and a huge win (a record comeback!) under his belt. It is what it is--the difference between someone trashing Martinez and an honest critique should be obvious.
  5. That's all there is. Huskers aren't going to be world beaters this year--that's obvious. But any team that can overcome adversity, stick together (we'll see how this goes) and play their asses off has my respect. Hell, I like the Gophers and they're going to be horribly overmatched in a couple of weeks--the NDSU Bisons had six yards on the ground the week before they played Minnesota, then averaged somewhere north of 5.5 against the Gophers. They still play hard so it's all good. Anyone that comes up to the game will see a nice, cozy stadium. Be sure to BYOB, and the shuttle from the U is the best way to get there. [edit] Make that NMSU with six yards on the ground the week before they averaged 5.17 against the Gophers. Burkhead's going to have a monster game.
  6. The thing that killed me early on is that they looked physically overmatched on both the O- and D-line. It was satisfying to see OSU wear down at the end and *really* cool to see the Huskers make adjustments and take over the second half. People were STEPPING UP and it was good to see.
  7. Play to his strengths, and ffs let him run. Take your chances with injury; he wants to run and is coached to go down, and the result is that he's tentative. Running like that will get you hurt faster than going balls out.
  8. LOL @ whoever Bo just rolled over on.
  9. With a fast D like tOSU, it was good to see them get out of the pistol in the second half and put Taylor under center. Those few extra yards behind the LOS can be a big difference maker, one way or the other.
  10. Well that was a roller coaster ride. Love to see tOSU on the field; I caught them at Gopher stadium last year and love to see that D play--great tackling. I love to see the Huskers show some heart, and a big win like this that shows they can overcome adversity is just the thing everyone needed. Wherever they go this year, I hope they do it with the same toughness they brought to the field tonight. #4 and #22
  11. This. Put Martinez in situations he's comfortable in and stick with them for the entire game. The Nebraska of the '80s and '90s didn't get pass happy when down by a score (or up by one for that matter--then again, they weren't able to come back easily--then again they didn't have to very often. ) T-Mart doesn't have the head to be a good passer and panicks too easily. Let him build confidence over time, but in the short term we need to keep the ball on the ground. We're going to start facing defenses that don't make bonehead moves and leave receivers uncovered, and that alone will take away the long ball unless our WRs can go up and fight for it.
  12. Wisconsin is one of the worst matchups the Huskers will face this year. The O-line is shades of some of the '80s Husker teams, and add an extremely accurate QB to the mix. IMHO, Wilson just flat out dominated the Husker defense and was the difference maker in the game. 14/20 for 255, over 18 yards per completion. On third down (discounting two sacks and a 0-yard 'run') he was hitting EVERYTHING: 3rd & 6 - 21 yard completion 3rd & 6 - 13 yard completion 3rd & 5 - 6 yard completion 3rd & 3 - 36 yard TD 3rd & 8 - 16 yard completion 3rd & 6 - 16 yard run 3rd & 5 - 6 yard completion 3rd & 8 - 10 yard penalty on Nebraska (didn't see what caused this--defensive holding? Our secondary was getting turned around all night.) Wilson also ran for a few 10+ yard gains when he saw the opportunity, including his TD run. He wasn't the only factor (-10 minutes TOP, 9 penalties, three picks, no run D) but as it played out, Wilson gets the game ball. Michigan worries me.
  13. Running the option is about the best It's not like there's much choice in the matter, which is the real problem. Martinez can't make precision throws, doesn't time his throws well and likes to stare down his receiver. His option reads are iffy from time to time but at least if he blows an option read he can make a play with his feet. IMO we need to run stick with the option and run more. Miama ran on the Buckeyes; hopefully Nebraska can do the same.
