  1. It is painfully apparent that you don't have the foggiest idea what happened or there is no way you could say he's a classy guy that made an honest mistake. The graduate assistant saw Sandusky engaged in sodomy, met with his father and then for some reason decided to go to JoePa--I'd speculate because JoePa essentially was the father to PSU sports. JoePa (instead of reporting this to the police) met with the AD the next day--and here the language gets unclear in the grand jury report: "the graduate assistant had seen Jerry Sandusky in the Lasch Building showers fondling or doing something of a sexual nature to a young boy." How does sodomy turn into 'fondling or doing something'? Exactly what did Joe Paterno hear from the semi-ironically named McQueary? On it went up the chain until it reached the university president, who is required by PA law to notify the state: http://law.onecle.co...63.011.000.html This is more or less what happened. His reputation and legacy and PSU are irrevocably stained, but yeah, I'll give hm the benefit of the doubt until I hear otherwise. I'm not trying to absolve him of blame, but at the same time I absolutely do not consider him a monster.
  2. PSU has always been classy, except for that diss on Pittsburgh residents. Actually, who cares about the residents; only the Steelers matter! [edit] I feel bad about JoePa - he's a classy guy--still culpable, but an honest mistake (IMO, I don't know exactly what happened.) PSU overall is still classy, the whiteout at the stadium kicks ass, and I hope it looks like blood flowing with all the Husker fans in attendance! Heh
  3. That's an inspirational poster for Oregon's uniform design.
  4. You're only here because of Lil Red. Admit it.
  5. Some looked better, some looked awful--one pass had me crying with laughter because of how contorted TMart was. I couldn't believe that he kept his feet afterwards. But whatever, he had a pretty decent game and as soft as NFW was playing, I expected even more passes. Get the ball in the WRs hands and they can make people miss, and with 8 in the box NFW was ripe for the plucking. Too bad it didn't work out that way--Bell's drops and the two fumbles really killed momentum in the first half. Martinez' inaccuracy and lack of touch doesn't help, but in the end I'd prefer him to be more elusive when running. He ran pretty strong yesterday which was a nice change.
  6. I always respected PSU for their class and integrity; I'm sick that the college--and Paterno's legacy--is going to be tarnished. There aren't many squeaky clean colleges that are a major factor in college ball, and losing one will make a small group that much smaller. (Most importantly are the children that were molested and punishing Sandusky, but that goes without saying.)
  7. The valedictorian was having sex with the English teacher, the prom king shot someone the other night and the starting varsity is all getting paid under the table. Analogies and NCAA violations by SEC teams go hand in hand.
  8. One of the LBs was nearly always sitting in the middle with eyes on Persa/Colter/Siemien or anyone coming out of the backfield. Problem is, Persa and Colter are both fast, and Persa made some smart runs in the first half. Coverage was usually solid so there were times he'd have to run or got sacked--and that got Persa knocked out of the game. Colter had 17 runs for 57 yards, not necessarily the problem in the game, albeit with some very timely runs. There was no single area of concern on either side of the ball, just a pretty flat performance all around. David was mostly in coverage.
  9. Beck called the first half was called pretty well, Subtract a couple of fumbles and it's 13-7 or 17-7 at the half.
  10. What was with the crowd counting along with the play clock? The blue hairs people complain about probably yelled themselves out in the '60s and have been attending games since.
  11. Bell dropped a couple of nice gainers in the first half, too. Receivers dropping catchable balls ages me. [edit] Siemian looked pretty comfortable coming out in the second half. NW has enviable depth at QB.
  12. Reed managed to be the primary read and got flagged for ineligibile downfield in one play. I think Kinnie covered him on the LOS--Pelini was yelling at him after the play. Other than that...
  13. I'd like to see the Huskers play for the Big Ten title this year. If it doesn't happen, so be it.
  14. I'm curious to know how many coaches pull their starters because they got banged up some playing football the week before. For that matter, I wonder how many starters would say 'yes, I want to sit' when asked.
  15. Take it back to the GI Independent boards. Northwestern has played giantkiller for years in the Big Ten. They are not a bad team. Nebraska has been gashed on the run all year by just about anyone that wanted to try, and NFW (ask any long-time Big Ten fan what that means) basically ran at will, dared the D to stop them and the D failed. Pelini has his issues, sure, but playing the coaching carousel is just idiotic. Not a bad team? What world do you live in? They lost 5 straight, have one of the worst defenses in the country statistically, and don't have a winning record. Nah, they're pretty good. NW lost four in a row to teams that could beat Nebraska, and they have a long tradition of toppling Big Ten hopefuls. Colter is a worse matchup against Nebraska than Persa is, NW was able to run at will and convert third and fourth downs, and they also converted 66% of their passes, including a bomb. This isn't one of those blowout losses that got out of hand because of failures in all aspects, this was a team that outplayed the Huskers D today. Or a coulda, woulda, shoulda, if you will. Lose a turnover. Lose the 81 yard pass. Stop Northwestern on one fourth down. If you're going to call for Pelini's head, at least wait for a game where he's obviously overmatched. This was actually a pretty enjoyable game , except for the final result. Leave that true fan BS at the GI boards. Where did I mention I liked Pelini?
  16. Didn't wear Husker gear. Let my wife talk me into driving to the bar to watch the game while the game was already on. Left the bar before the game was over. This one's on me.

  18. 1) How long have you been a member of Husker Nation? Since 1971 - What a good year! My first real 'rabid fan' memory was playing Dig Dug at a tiny arcade and listening to TO go for two. 2) What/who led you to The Nation? 3) Where are you from originally? Born & raised Nebraskan 4) Where do you live now? Minnesota, Twin City area 5) Favorite Husker memory? Frazier's run against UF. He broke something like seven tackles and was in the clear. He looked back once, twice and again, and when he turned his head towards the endzone all I could see was this giant grin on his face. I'll never forget it. (I got a bit misty while typing this.) 6) Worst Husker memory? 52-17 (Mizzou), closely followed by 62-36 (CU) 7) Number of home games attended? I don't recall, but not many. 3? 8) Number of away games attended? 0 9) Favorite Husker memorabilia/apparel? The newspaper following the UF blowout. Still have it! 10) Favorite place to watch a Husker game? (section in Memorial, bar, friends house etc.) Home, surrounded by friends. TVs on (thanks B1G network!) and usually audio from huskers.com 11) Favorite all time player? Oh boy.. I guess Frazier. 12) WCO or Option? Option (whatever - passing is nothing to be afraid of) 13) Stevie Pederson or Billy Byrne? lol 14) Lil Red or Herbie Husker? Lil Red - he creeps my wife out 15) Favorite Husker play? See #5 16) Favorite game-day beverage? Yes 17) How did you find HuskerBoard? (referral source) Google
  19. +1 Climbing the ranks is like playing a video game and there's always the potential for poll drama, which fuels offseason forum discussion, which in turn makes the time go by until the spring game.
  20. Damn, you're on these boards a lot now. Not that it's a bad thing. Vested interest, or has DoNU become a second favorite of yours? He just wants to Badger any Minnesota residents about Gopher/Viking football.
  21. Wow! tOSU's a young D (and will get much, much better) but it's still an impressive stat.
  22. I'll throw a line out there and ask why the Tea Party and and OWS don't merge into something cohesive, namely: 1) Limit the scope of the Federal government and pass on more responsibility to state government. 2) Limit the power of corporations via intelligent regulation and end the sweetheart deals. Those points are extremely vague and open to interpretation and debate, but it doesn't make sense to me to distrust government and allow corporations to run unchecked, or vice versa. As an example of #1, the FDA. It provides some needed oversight to prevent quackery and enforce standards; on the other hand it has been successfully lobbied by drug manufacturing firms. As an example: http://www.dailypaul...it-to-be-a-drug Forgive the link if you don't like ___ Paul; I grabbed the first google result I found. In this example, a company spent something north of $100M on a drug study, only to find out (well into the process) that the drug occurred naturally and was already in many supplements. It lobbied the FDA and, due to a timing loophole, the FDA wound up placing the drug on its banned substance list with the result that the vitamin (B6) is no longer in off-the-shelf supplements. Government in action. :/ We're living through an example of #2. Another one off the top of my head are limitations on who can get into an IPO. Goverment and corporate are so intermarried that it would be a shock to the fundament of our economy to make substantial changes, but IMO those changes need to take place. Separation of church, state and business. [edited for punctuation and clarification]
  23. Where are you staying? Joe Sensers in Bloomington has historically been the Husker gathering point. http://maps.google.c...F-8&sa=N&tab=wl There is also a Sensers in Plymouth and Rosedale. If you're in Saint Paul there are good restaurants/bars everywhere. If you're downtown, same, but more of a clubby atmosphere. Uptown is the people watching place--kind of an Old Market atmosphere on steroids. Maple Grove has everything, but you're pretty far away from everything else unless you want to take a 5-mile jaunt NW on 94 to Cabelas. I do NOT recommend taking highway 94 W on Fridays because everyone is going up north, and the walleye are biting.
  24. This really is a fascinating topic and is a microcosm of a deeper division in Husker nation that started around the time Callahan was hired--or maybe back to 62-36 (or perhaps the "Osborne can't win the big one" commentary that preceded most forms of internet message boards.) The salient point here is that Pelini chose to draw a line in the sand, and there's going to be some debate on whether it was necessary and what it really means. Supporting his players? Great. I love the fire, and most of his players love playing for him. However, taken in a larger context with some of the tantrums Pelini has thrown on the sidelines, his latest condemnation of Chatelain's article can be viewed as a deeper issue, and viewpoints critical of Pelini are just as valid as those opinions critical of the media in general (which IMHO has been overly critical at times.) I'm not trying to play sides here and I hope my choice of wording reflects that. I just hope it all works out in favor of Pelini because that means the team and kids playing for us are successful.
