  1. Sweeping a team in a weekend series that we are fighting with near the top of the standings is huge this time of year. Winning 3 one run games on top of that is even better and should give the men a much needed boost in confidence. Keep fighting Huskers and make this a year to remember.
  2. This next year might be rough but it looks like we are sitting much better for the year after when the new arena opens. I think I remember reading we have 6 openings for the year after this for new schollies? This also will give Miles and staff a full year to get their foot in the door for some good recruits. Some doors were never going to open at CSU that might open now with NU in the Big 10. He will recruit a few kids with checkered pasts but will hold them accountable when they get here.
  3. Welcome aboard the Husker train Christian. It's great to hear of your excitement to be here.
  4. He used it the one time in Omaha, trying to make a joke that he spends most of his time there, and said later he shouldn't have. I don't think he will again.
  5. I fully agree that the media had every right and should have reported RB's attendance at the meeting. It was public news and he, whether he wants to be or not, is a public figure. My mention of the media previously was more centered on the national media and how they try to make a bonfire out of a campfire. I think local media will see it in a somewhat better light and understand the powderkeg it could become. If it blows up they too will have no choice but to report it every hour on the hour.
  6. Politicians and heads of major institutions aren't paid to have convictions as much as they are to follow the path of least resistance and put out fires. Newspapers and tv stations and franchises like ESPN do their best to make waves and ride them. They aren't interested in civil rights, religious rights or the fracture a firing would cause. They make their money on dissent, unrest and dumpster fires. Perlman is pressured more by the other heads of the Big 10 and doesn't want to loose face among his peers. Stay cool gentlemen and let this blow over.
  7. It has been noted that E(Spin)'s Rick Reilly has again called out RB for his involvement with the Omaha city council. My fear is that this devolves down to a point where Harvey P feels it necessary to remove Ron from the university. If or when that happens all hell will break loose in this state. I'm not sure where the decision makers (big donors) would stand on this issue. Hopefully cooler heads will prevail and outside influences aren't persuasive enough to cause civil war in Big Red country.
  8. I think we found a coach who knows how to look under every rock for players. Plus he hired staff who seem to be able to do the same thing. Congrats to this coaching staff.
  9. The article I read says he is out for track now and with that speed I would hope in the sprints. Never know however. Scott Frost was a sprinter and shotputter in HS.
  10. As a follower of Christ I love Coach Brown and the missional work he has done in this world, but I disagree with the last statement. I don't think that what Ron Brown is doing looks at all like how Jesus lived. You know what words I didn't hear come out of Brown's mouth during this entire thing? Salvation. Grace. Forgiveness. Gospel. To name a few. What he is preaching isn't what Jesus preached. Ron Brown's method is "what you are doing is wrong, you need to stop that and change" when Jesus' method was "I love you and have a plan for you" and then that love was what changed people's lives. Jesus accepts us as we are and changes us from the inside, we can't earn or will ourselves to be pleasing to God - we just have to place faith and let Him do the work. I don't know if you've ever attended one of Ron Browns events where he preaches from his heart. He speaks often and passionately about salvation, grace, forgiveness and the Bible. The event recently in Omaha wasn't a venue where he came to preach. Just to give his opinion about changing a law for the city of Omaha. I don't know if he has worked in the political arena before or not. I'm guessing not often or we would have heard about it. Jesus wasn't particularly averse to calling a spade a spade whether it was with individuals (the woman at the well) or organizations (like the Pharisees). He didn't tell the woman to try and live a good live and just do your best. He told her to "Go and sin no more" or in your words "Stop that and change". It was unusual that He was even talking to her as she was a Samaritan, she was a woman and by using her cup he would have been declared ceremonially unclean. Jesus did have a way of showing love and compassion to people which was magnetic. He could call out their sins without condemning them.
  11. A phrase that has been popular for 10 or so years is WWJD (what would Jesus do). It would have been interesting if Jesus had been at the meeting in Omaha that started this discussion. Some think RB and Jesus would be debating on opposite sides of the issue. Some think not. Jesus himself said he didn't come to replace the law but to fulfil it. He wasn't concerned with rights as much as understanding and living by the first two commandments. Loving the Lord God and loving and respecting our neighbors. My best guess is Jesus would have offered life. The one he called "abundant." And I think we all have a lot to learn about that. Probably the question is do we want to seek it or continue to argue about the law? He told the woman at the well that "he didn't condemn her" but he also told her, "go and sin no more." Not because he condemned her, but because he wanted the best for her. This is how I see Ron Brown. He isn't condemning people individually but calling out a lifestyle that he understands the Bible condemns.
  12. I'm sorry you lost a good friend from the animal kingdom TO. They can really become a part of us and hold a place in our hearts. Any other discussions are for another day. For now just be well.
  13. Offhand I'd say it's different because he wasn't advocating the hatred of a group of people while at Penn State. I sung his praises for his role in that Penn State game, and I'm the one who started this thread. I have no agenda against Coach Brown or against religion. I have an agenda against discrimination, which I would think Coach Brown, a Christian, would also have. But sadly, that is not the case. I have followed the career and spiritual work of Ron Brown for 20 years and I challenge you to show one instance he ever "advocated hatred toward any group of people and especially gays". Maybe he is another citizen who is weary of every disillusioned group claiming civil rights for every agenda under the sun. As a black man I'm sure he understands the difference between something genetically determined like race and gender. Show me where gayness is genetically predisposed? I don't see RB as a man who would ever turn his back on someone and not help if he saw the need. He wouldn't call out an individual gay student or worker as Barbara Baier claimed. If a player came to him and in private claimed to be a gay person I am certain RB wouldn't make that info public. They could agree to disagree and leave the meeting as friends with two different opinions which is something a lot of posters on here should do without letting their emotions and politically correct inclinations rule their thought process.
  14. Thanks for the additional names and congratulations to them for the accomplishments.
  15. The former UNK heavyweight defeated former UNO wrestler Les Sigman in the finals to claim the honor of representing the USA in the Olympics. It's great to see Nebraska represented by these two fine men. Hats off to both of them.
  16. I have no idea for sure but I'm guessing our staff wanted him to walk on instead of offering a schollie. The same with Drew Ott who played at a small school near me. He's a big rangy kid with great athletic skills but with last years small class NU couldn't offer and wanted him to walk on. For some reason Iowa feels they are worthy of a full ride. It's good to see at least one school showing some love for our D1 and D2 (Nebr small class) athletes. Other side of the coin, I'm not throwing blame to our coaches for not offering. If they feel they can recruit a kid with more experience playing in larger classes, I'm sure they feel its a safer bet. Some kids are wiling and maybe financially able to walk on with the hopes of getting a full ride in a few years. Others may not and that's ok.
  17. Another 8 man player from Nebraska to take his game to Iowa. I don't condemn these kids one bit for taking a full ride over walking on at NU. He played for Howells and was a runnerup in wrestling as a heavyweight. Best of luck to him and Drew Ott of Giltner at Iowa.
  18. If Westercamp gets to campus shortly after graduation so he can practice with his teammates and start learning the plays he may get on the field this year. It's way to early to even think he'll star this year. I don't think this is an easy system to learn and we know how Bo loves players who don't fully know the system. What the coaches may do is work him into 5 or 6 plays and get him on the field for those. Then next year he'll have a spring game and the whole summer to learn what he needs to know.
  19. An answer that works for me to the question of why God (if he exists and I firmly believe He does) allows some to be healed and others to not be healed is found in understanding the Nature of God. What He values most is having a relationship with us on a daily basis. While I believe He values all of creation, I feel He most loves His final creation....humankind. I read in the Bible of all the steps God took toward us to get us to understand His intentions and finally the last and eternal step He took to show us. I as a parent don't want my three sons to love me because I gave them their every wish growing up. I didn't as they can well tell you. However I know they love me because I showed, guided and disciplined when necessary to get my point across which was for them to become mature adult men capable of raising another generation. I feel God has the same mindset about granting our every prayer. If we knew God would grant His people everything we prayed about including relief from life threatening illnesses then our churches would be full of immature Christians who were there for one purpose. Believe me I have the same pain when I see family and friends go unhealed from serious diseases but I'm not doubting that God can if it be His will. Three weeks ago our Pastor held a healing service. We do this rarely and I have only seen one person healed from a problem that confounded Drs. A friend of mine who has been confined for 4 years to a walker indoors and a powerchair outdoors went forward for prayer in the early service. He finished the service, left to go home with his wife but came back during the end of the 2nd service to show that he was capable of walking and jumping. I worked at his house the week before the healing service and saw how dificult it was for him to walk and heard how he had pain from his neck to his feet. For 2 weeks after he was healed I worked there and saw him clean his garage, load a dumpster and help me push it to the street for pickup, plus walk his dog twice a day. He mentioned to me several times that he doesn't understand why he was healed within minutes of asking and others who were there have yet to be healed. He did say he thinks everyone who prayed got an answer....either yes, or no, or not yet. Yes we do serve a wonderful God!
  20. Our wishes came true this afternoon for Biggs. Word is out that he committed. It is important for many reasons. It establishes a link to the (only) premier basketball program in Nebraska high School. It lets other recruits know we are now making some noise and creates that spark our program needs to get off the ground. Welcome home Mr Biggs! http://huskerextra.com/sports/mens-basketball/article_ef3a158e-57bf-5e04-94ad-210da006ab45.html
  21. Yes.. Sammy Davis Jr was black, and a Jew... Talk about a man who overcame many social stigmas of his day, Sammy Davis Jr was black, Jewish and handicapped! Sarcasm aside, it seems like Louis Farrakhan loves to keep his name in the news.
  22. I'm thinking the team Coach Miles had at CSU would have been a bit more competitive in the big 10 than the one Sadler fielded. Probably on par with Minn, Mich, Iowa and NW. While better, it still wouldn't have gotten to the NCAA's more than likely, maybe the NIT. I see hope in the fact that Miles should be able to pull in better players than he did at CSU. I'm more hopeful that the assistant coach with Chicago ties will be able to convince kids to play for a school in the Big 10 than a school out in the mountains in a mid major conference. I haven't been this excited for Husker basketball since the middle of Danny Nee's term here.
  23. As hard as this is for me to say, here goes. No sex is worth losing a 3.5 million dollar job for which there was no end in sight as long as he coaches well and wins games. Plus the loss of your wife....and the alimony that will be forthcoming. Having to look all your assistant coaches in the face as they pack their things and move to who knows where. On the bright side he should have enough left to take a summer trip on his Harley......as soon as it gets out of the shop.
  24. They best not show off to much and start winning consistantly or UNL will shut down that program as well. UNK better watch out too....they did well in wrestling this year and their football team is no slouch.
  25. Not calling anyone out, but I've never understood the attraction of giving a player or coach a nickname. Example: Taylor Martinez = TMart. Kenyon Martin = KMart. LeBron James = King James. It sounds too much like a "hanger on mentality" where someone wants to attach themselves to a players reputation. (Rep ....another slang word I despise.) A little too much man love for me....sorry.
