  1. I'm not sure if the kid from South Sioux City can be turned from the dark side (Iowa), but you never know. Watching him play in the state tournament I saw a lot of good in him. I don't think he's a program changer but he could be one of those 4 or 5 role players every team needs. Minnesota has the kid from Chadron who has become a decent big man. There was a kid from SD a few years ago who was down to us and Minn and he went to Minn. In short, our state needs some energy to get high school kids dreaming about playing for the U and putting in the time to make themselves better players.
  2. I'm guessing from the press conference, that Tim talked with Tom about the new arena and where the students would be sitting and how many seats would be alloted to students. He understands that while the 50 to 80 year olds may pay the bills, it's the students that make the noise....if they come out.
  3. I'm not sure you give the keys to a $200 million dollar car to a kid who has only watched his dad drive. I'd prefer a guy who has at least driven an old clunker and fixed it up and resold it....and keeps moving up to bigger and better.
  4. I've been hit harder than that playing noon pick up games at the Y. Blake was only butt hurt while the cameras were on and until the decision to eject had been made. As soon as action resumed he was fine. Another case of the NBA protecting it's moneymakers.
  5. The Oracle said "The One" was coming. Have a cookie everyone!
  6. First of all this was not a visciously hard foul. There was some body contact but if you think Griffin didn't milk this for the cameras guess again. I don't think Smith went in with the intention of putting Griffin on his kester but realized too late he wasn't going to be able to draw the charge. No one is suggesting that basketball become football without pads. It is my opinion that dunking has taken the skill out of the game for most big men and too many players at a young age spend too much time dunking and not enough time on shooting, passing, dribbling and understanding angles and defensive skills.
  7. There are not a boat load of great basketball players just waiting to be coached up on this Husker team. That being said I hope to see whomever is here play hard and have fun. I wish Coach Miles and his crew the best in years to come and hope he is the Moses who leads us out of the desert and into the NCAA Promised Land.
  8. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQmV7ETxj2I It looks like Blake wasn't expecting to be challenged on this dunk. I might watch pro basketball more if this happened a few times a game. Let those high risers think their feet might not be the first thing to touch the floor when they come down. Dunking has ruined basketball in general and pro basketball in particular.
  9. With the apparent (and understandable) disinterest of most or all of the young up and coming coaches, I'm leaning toward Rick Majerus. Don't know if he has any interest in moving or likes the anonimity of St Louis U. The man can flat out coach, does well at recruiting and his kids would run through a wall for him. While Scott Sutton may be a decent coach, I'm afraid the Peter Principle may kick in and he'd be another Barry Collier. Rick M would seem to have many of the qualities of Doc Sadler that we liked. Hard working, runs a clean program, recruits good kids, likeable to a majority of fans. Plus he should be a better recruiter with name recognition. I don't think we can do better than Rick, outside of offering 3 to 4 million, but we could do much worse.
  10. In my opinion, Chris Mack can stay at Xavier and hope he never does more than fly over Husker airspace. Instead of recruiting players his university can be proud of, he recruited thugs from AAU programs and failed to make them realize they weren't on the dark streets of Cincinnati. Nothing says pride to a predominantly white school like a gang fight with a crosstown rival on the basketball court of a nationally televised game.
  11. It was probably a number of factors all together that made him less effective shooting 3's. I remember he started a weight training regimen 2 years ago with the intention of bulking up and getting stronger. It was never meant for him to be a 5 on the floor and after a whole game of dragging those big butts up and down the court, it takes a toll on the legs and makes shooting 3's very difficult. It looked too that he was the last option when Spencer was distributing the ball. I saw him have a couple decent games but once Big 10 games started it wasn't as pretty.
  12. As I understand it, the big kid from Creighton and one of the starters for UNC played together in high school in Iowa. That must have been quite the team! The state of Nebraska doesn't have two kids in the whole state that are recruited to a BCS Div 1 school.
  13. Duke's loss isn't going to hurt me as I had them losing to Baylor in the next game anyway. Missouri on the other hand sure killed my West bracket. I had them in the finals against Kansas. I was happy to see Creighton beat Alabama as well. Good luck in your picks.
  14. The lane violation at that point in the game is a snarky call by a ref. In this case it was a bit easier to call with the guard crashing in from on top of the three point line. Still I'd like to see the ref swallow his whistle right then.
  15. It's a shame both the thug schools from Cincinnati won today. I was hoping they'd both go down in flames.
  16. It looks like they are able to recruit Iowa quite well. Good luck to the WSU girls in the Elite 8 Tourney.
  17. I have Kentucky vs Missouri playing in one semi and Syracuse vs Kansas in the other. I tried my best to find a way to eliminate Kentucky, as I despise their coach and team, however I see no way they lose against their bracket. Missouri would need to have an exceptional game to beat them in the semi. Kansas beats Syracuse in the other semi, making it an all (old school Big 8 final). Kansas vs Missouri in the final. I haven't decided on the winner yet. If Harvard gets to the Sweet 16 or the Elite 8, Tom O needs to give Tommy Amaker a call to see if he wants to do a repeat in Lincoln.
  18. He does move well for a lineman. I saw on several plays he took out more than one defender. That being said, it looks like he plays in a lower class because most of the opposition lineman were much smaller. With his speed and the addition of 30 lbs he could make a fine interior lineman or center.
  19. At this point in the first season of the Erstads, I would hope for an 11-6 record. L - Ks St W - UNK WWLL- Cal W - SDS WWLL- LT WW - No Colo WWL - Illinois W - Ks St
  20. Thankfully I'm not seeing many people being all butt hurt about Corey R leaving. There are always a few who feel the need to slam a guy for improving his lot in life. If Scott Frost or any other ex Husker in the coaching profession came to Nebraska under similar circumstances, would we tell him not to come because of all the players he recruited to Oregon? I think we would welcome him home and be happy for him. Corey R just did the same thing. La is his home and LSU is his alma mater. I hate seeing it happen right now but I understand it and wish him well. Not too well....just well!
  21. I think we know why Watson and Gilmore left. Not much intrigue there. Carl P left because he wanted to try his hand at head coaching...something we all knew someday he would do. Sanders was asked to leave....and not because of his coaching....nothing more to say there. Corey R left to go back to his alma mater, LSU, which is understandable. I don't think there is much news here. It's the coaching merry go round. We just aren't used to coaches leaving.
  22. Just a thought. We don't know that Bo didn't tell CR to go ahead and accept the job at LSU. Every story has it's under the radar lines.
  23. Congrats to the Husker team and Doc for the big win. Whether we think so, they have worked hard in practice. I had high hopes they could play like this all year. Too many injuries to the bigs and a lack of depth has hurt them. I'm glad to see them get this kind of win!
  24. I'll be watching baseball season with more fervor this year. I'm excited for the program and feel they are in great hands with this group of coaches.
  25. Year in and year out , one if not more of those 3 teams will be tough and near the top 10. Every year will be a dog fight.
