  1. C'mon? Yes it's terrible and should never happen but there are dips$&ts in every fanbase. This has absolutely no bearing on who would coach here. In fact, if any current or potential future coach doesn't realize that 99.9% of our fans are great and a small handful everywhere are dumbf@&ks, then I'm not sure I would want that coach here. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water. Haha, you're right about blanket statement. That part was sarcastic. As far as it having no effect? You're delusional! Coaches have enough to worry about and rest assured they dont want to have to worry about that! Isolated incidents may not but this isnt the first time. Anyone that doesn't think a coach will be hesitant to take a chance of his family going through that is crazy. Would you think twice about looking into a job where something like that happened? No money, no title, no status is worth that. Coaches are also husbands and fathers too you know. Sure, understanding that things like this happen everywhere, it may cause coaches to reconsider being involved in big time D1 football. But I still contend that an isolated case like this doesn't hurt Nebraska specifically when it comes to coaches making the decision to come here or not. It's bad but let's not pretend we're unique to this type of thing. Maybe we aren't unique to that sort of thing but lets also not pretend its the norm either. Plenty of places to coach and not have to worry about it.
  2. I'm not scared, but I think this is much, much better than a number of alternate possibilities if we hire a new coach. It's a risk for a reason, and the reason is that there isn't anything close to a science or a sure-thing when hiring coaches, and the odds are against you more than in your favor. For every great legacy coach that has been hired, you can find ten that were just as highly regarded that fell on their faces. And that's not even getting into if we hired the next Tim Miles that would win big and he left after 5 years for a new job. At the risk of derailing this, Tim Miles hasn't won anything either. And the pressure for him to succeed even in year 2 was extremely low. I like the guy and he has given me no reason to doubt his abilities so far. I just don't think we should be talking about if Bo is gone we will need to find the next Tim Miles. You beat me to it! Fricken 19-13 and he's being talked about as a great coach? So they went from slightly uner .500 to slightly over .500. Not that i care about bball anyway but Geez

  4. Best fans in the country! Bet that'll get guys standing in line to coach here...
  5. Who said this, and do you have a link to the source? You really think a link exists for this? Most likely 2nd hand from player No, I don't really think a link exists because I don't think it was actually said. And yeah, most likely second hand from a player who has an overinflated opinion of himself. As I said, there would be some that discredit, that's fine, you have that right. But don't assume you know anything. Like it or not, you don't know EVERYTHING that goes on in the program, and neither do I. But I can tell you it is true, it has happened. And to satisfy your curiosity, it wasn't information from a player. Players are tight lipped so they don't jeopardize themselves. But you are free to think what you want. This is another time when a poster needs to understand how to relay information. Did one of the assistants day that? Perhaps. But unless you heard it with your own ears, you can't say that's it's true and definitely happened. Listen, I've posted stuff I've heard, things said, rumors, etc. But I'm not going to insist that it's true and get all huffy when someone questions me about it. This is the interwebs where everything you see is true, right? 1. I dont see how you take what i said as getting huffy? Got some thin skin there? I fully expected some to question and even went as far as to say id understand if they did. 2. Have you not figured out how much politics there are in college sports? Just as in politics where there's smoke there's fire and not everything is released to the media and sometimes sources are kept anonymous. Unfortunately politics some times get in the way of progress. Get to know someone deeply involved with college sports and discuss it sometime. You'd be surprised of what goes on at all levels. 3. I made my post as an answer to a question 4. There are times when there are connections that not everyone has or as in my case accidentally happened upon. Sometimes the connections leak information. I dont like rumors, and would not have posted what i did if it wasn't credible. 5. You have the right to speculate. I will resist further comment. 6. Maybe im the mole?

  7. Does anyone really care about the rules that help us? We hear every detail about one that doesn't help that's for sure. I know full cost of attendance will help us. An early signing may help us (or could hurt) - but I expect that to come down eventually. Certainly joining the B1G didn't help us with their recruiting rules, but can't blame that on the NCAA. Undersigning by 6-7 doesn't help us, but that's our own doing - can't blame that on the NCAA either. Not forking out the $$ to staff the recruiting department and keep up with the Jones' - again, can't blame that on the NCAA. I'd say most of the disadvantages we have (minus location) are self inflicted or of our own choosing. You could recruit to Nebraska, maybe not top 5 classes but consistent top 15 classes. I'm fairly confident of that. But when you don't sign to 85, you don't put the $$ or time into it, then you aren't going to get out of it what you want. Simple as that. Just asking...Do they not sign to 85 to allow some to be left over to award to players that walked on and work their way into scholarship roles? Because I can definitely see some players recruited on scholarship that don't pan out and never evolve so I'm not real sure that filling up on scholarships is a huge deal considering it doesn't guarantee those players will pan out. Now if we 130 to play with? Take more chances and have higher percentage that pan out along with some that don't but with many more scholarships to award it wouldn't hurt as much? Not discounting your post, just discussing.
  8. Great question. I can't think of any right off hand, not that there aren't any, I just can't think of any...
  9. Notice how the bolds started to become less and less until they disappeared? The decline in bolded teams on the list started about the time teams that used to have up to 130 or so kids on scholarship were forced to have no more than 85! Teams with less desirable locations weren't and aren't able to give enough kids money to go to school farther from home! Bingo.....along with more than just 85 scholarships. Also, I wouldn't say Oklahoma should be bolded because they are in the south and very close to a recruiting hotbed. So, over the last 25 years, we only have 5 bolded teams (without Oklahoma because they shouldn't be). Very true, academic requirements have made it impossible to get some of the kids we won titles with that weren't eligible at least at first and would never make the roster with today requirements.
  10. Who said this, and do you have a link to the source? YeAh seriously, link? Notice I said not openly in the public? As many do on here ( can't say I blame you), I will be discredited as I will not and can not state a link or source for several reasons. However, I can tell you it's true and it is disturbing.

  12. A lot of subbing is left up to positions coaches. Coach P. has some say but position coaches for the most part have final say. Now, that may not be what is portrayed publicly but it is what happens. Unfortunately we have at least one position coach who has said out loud and in front of players that he hates walk ons and they should not play, regardless of position on the depth chart. I would guess because some of those walk ons have out performed his recruited players and he doesn't like it.
  13. What a giant pile of horsesh#t. Yeah, keep telling yourself that. Saban and the like could coach at Alaska and kids would flock there to play. And the pile just grew...
  14. Be careful with logic and truth like that! It could get you in trouble around here. There are a few who really just don't understand how it has changed and definitely don't understand the parity.
  15. I won't guess as to Kenny Bells toughness or that stuff. I do know though that a groin injury is very tricky injury. I had one, several times and have had some very good athletes have them over the years. It gets pulled the 1st time and it just lingers the whole season sometimes. I've had kids do exactly what Kenny's doing. Leave during a game but by Wed. the next week they feel ok and play again that weekend and it takes just a tweak to reinjure it. For some reason, some kids seem to feel better quickly and can run and cut but it is easier to pull after the 1st time. My guess is with the field conditions that game, one of his feet slid a little and of course the reaction is to try and maintain balance and that's when it tweaks again. It really can be a lingering and frustrating injury.
  16. Without DPE heroics, it is not even a close game. Without Davisons miracle catch back in the day, we don't win a title. Don't remember anyone complaining about how that ended up. Seriously, football is a game of plays, some big, some not so big. I couldn't care less what made it a close game. Without a phenomenal catch by one of their receivers you could take away one of their scores too. So lets subtract any and all great plays, only count the average run of the mill plays, subtract corresponding scores resulting from those plays, and that's the real score. Um yeah, ok. And not to mention for most of the game our guys played uninspired. Now, there are some who blame that directly on the coaches, but those that do have never coached or know little about it. You can jump up and down, do cartwheels, and yell all you want sometimes and it won't make the players play hard and that is at all levels. We've all seen uninspired effort by teams before and then at some point later they'll play inspired leaving everyone wondering if it's the same team. That is not on the coaches. They are not cheer leaders and anyone thinking differently, as I said has either not coached or not coached long enough, or has not coached a team or program that is trying to get rid of old ways and rise again. Argue all you want, stupid points won't change that fact, but the only ones that will get it are people who do coach or have in those situations. Our guys' effort and attitude is solely on the players. Now, were there bad calls and plays by coaches? Sure, as is true of every game and I'm sure they were frustrated with themselves about them too. And to add one more, if the game was in dry weather and especially on turf, we win. Our speed and ellusiveness at several positions would have changed things.
  17. Those things definitely happen, and happen to all teams at any given time. Very tough to beat a team twice at any level.
  18. Listen here bud. I disagree with Polo as much as anyone, but your ramble? Most have no frickin clue the jibberish you spewed there. Your comparing an arguably underachieving football team to an unarguably routine event of science. I repeat myself, sorry if you don't understand a pretty accurate and simple comparison. And don't call me bud and talk down your nose at me. Guarantee I'm not your "bud"
  19. and then lose to Northwestern and/or Rutgers, more injuries mount, Wisconsin stomps our injury riddle defense, and we wind up losing a bowl game. Then what? Then hopefully we move in a new direction.Win or lose, I really think that this is your agenda... Well that's on you. Because I just flat out said I want Nebraska to win. We may differ on how they get there, but I've never not wanted them to win Do you not see the bolded part? Where does he accuse you of not wanting NU to win? He's questioning agenda, and he's spot on.
  20. and then lose to Northwestern and/or Rutgers, more injuries mount, Wisconsin stomps our injury riddle defense, and we wind up losing a bowl game. Then what? Then hopefully we move in a new direction. Win or lose, I really think that this is your agenda... Agreed
  21. "Jesus. Wut?" Don't even start. You understand it and you know it. Probably even get the point of it but you want to argue just because. Go for it. And if you really don't understand it, well, sorry, maybe someone will explain.
  22. Who exactly is saying that Nebraska sucks and the coaches should be fired at this point? Shut up Polo. You understand the context of the post. #Entitled Well my point is kinda important because it negates his and yours arguments you see. Wow, just wow. You really don't get the context. I'm sorry. Here, maybe you'll understand this. The sun may not come up tomorrow. The fact it has been doesn't prove anything. It still might not come up. So, due to that reality I refuse to believe it will and in the mean time will look to blame someone if it doesn't. And I certainly will NOT be thankful that it has been coming up because it has to be a fluke, or maybe the worlds just tilted right.
  23. Figure of speech, exaggeration, whatever you want to call it. "changes will need to be made", of course, "if we lose to Sparty" .......Do you seriously think things like that can be said and people don't think it as negative. The people on here that just HAVE to say something to negate any positives we have in order to justify the long lost point that the coaching staff is inadequate really think they can hide the fact that's what they want? A way to say " I told you so" "I was right!" "I knew it all along"
  24. When are nay-sayers going to realize that it doesn't matter who you BEAT anymore than who you LOSE to!? Other than for rankings, it don't matter. Rankings are a joke anyway. For a long time people complained that something needed to be done to change college football to even the playing field so to speak. It was done, and still, people refuse to understand or just simply can't. The field is much more even. Lower or unranked teams can and will beat "better" teams on occasion pretty much every week and vice versa! THAT IS REALITY! Anymore, as a whole, overall, there isn't much difference between #25 and #1 or unranked and #19. Sure, there are exceptions, but not the whole. If it was different, we should just end the season now. Were undefeated, have won 4 games, but not against anybody considered good so we suck, fans need to realize that just because we won 4 games, we're still not good, and coaches need to be fired. LSU got upset but has some quality wins so they are obviously better than us. Phew, time to move on to winter sports, this season is over.
