  1. We're really grasping for silver linings here if we're pointing at zero blowouts as a success when this team lost to Pur-f******-due. And it was 42-16 at the end of the 3rd quarter. The whole 4th quarter was garbage time. You're right. Through three quarters our defense gave up 6 touchdowns, on drives starting on their 23, our own 16, our own 22, their 20, their 16, and our 19. 21 of those 42 points came on turnovers with 22 or less yards to the endzone. Pur-f******-due. Doesn't matter the argument--the team lost to Pur-f******-due. Any argument trying to defend/rationalize a loss to Pur-f******-due is like trying to rationalize away a loss to Kansas. At least those Kansas teams beat other FBS schools ...... /rationalizing
  2. Yep. Eighth in the conference in yards per game and tops in yards per catch should have been good for something.
  3. The complaints have been that every thread turns into the same thing. There are plenty of places to argue about the talent on the roster and how it's being used. A thread congratulating the players that made all-conference teams doesn't need to be another one.
  4. List is growing. Check to OP and go to the profile pages for updates.
  5. Riley wasn't there but Stewart visited last night. Riley to visit next Thursday. Stewart told him we want him to play boundary corner which is where he wants to play. Arizona and Utah have also visited. UCLA and USC coming by this week. Helton has been recruiting him all along for USC. Jackson may still visit Oregon despite being out of OVs.
  6. Not sure I really buy that. Unless he meant "The gap is pretty big except for our backup right tackle who we can move to guard for one week and take over the starting spot."
  7. Perhaps Tommy Armstrong is the square peg and the experiment And TA called his own plays? This staff had 2 years of game film, spring and fall ball as well as 11 previous games to review his abilities. Anyone who thought, hmm lets get this kid to chuck the rock 40+ times a game so we can win is an idiot. Every person on this board would agree throwing from the pocket isn't his strong suit. Running is. Everyone on this board always said the hardest thing for any DC to defend is a mobile QB. What did Langs do? Hobbled our returning leader rusher. Made no team worry about his legs on designed runs. TA is a baller. This year, he got Langsed. At what point do you begin to teach your system? At what point is it ok to do that? When Patrick O'Brien gets here? We hold up all that for one player? Or do we teach the system and hope the QB learns quickly? Why would we run Tommy all over the field on designed runs when our best back up is Ryker Fyfe? Does Tommy fit in this offense? No, but he's the best we have. At some point you have to teach your system, it's inevitable. So doesn't it make sense to teach it from the very beginning? Next year Patrick O'Brien could very well end up starting if he is the real deal. If that's the case, we're going to be glad that the rest of the offense already knows what they're doing and can help him out. If O'Brien doesn't pan out, we could be in for another long season. There is nothing wrong with teaching the system. I don't even have a particular problem with any of the plays that we ran this year. I don't think there's any one play that I'd say we should never run. What I do have a problem with is how often we run certain plays and what situation we choose to run them in. You don't have to change the system for any QB we have or POB. Just make better use of it.
  8. Officially visiting next weekend (Dec. 11). Good friends with WR target Desmond Fitzpatrick.
  9. Good effort from the guys. Like the hustle. Not sure why anyone would play us anything but a 2-3 zone. We still have no zone offense. On the bright side, our man offense actually had some good movement to it.
  10. Final stats for the year: 434 rushing plays and 439 pass plays. Also, what I don't understand is just because a passing offense failed under BC at Nebraska doesn't mean a pass offense will never work here. That's a pretty small sample size, but everyone loves to extrapolate from it. I'm not saying one way or the other that this will work under Riley, but just because it didn't work under Callahan doesn't mean we can apply that experience here. It's not really a small sample size. It wasn't really successful at OSU I wasn't saying anything about whether any more passing oriented offense would work or not. For a lot of Husker fans, they base not wanting a passing offense purely based off of the results of a single coach here. Now if they mention that the top 4 teams right now have the following splits: Clemson- 527 run; 407 pass; 44% pass plays Alabama- 503 run; 364 pass; 42% pass plays Oklahoma- 541 run; 396 pass; 42% pass plays Iowa- 506 run; 309 pass; 38% pass plays This I find to suggest that Riley and co may want to rethink their game plan. I guess I'm just tired of hearing fans (not just here) use the singular case of- we sucked under BC, so obviously passing equals bad. I guess I'm just being a bit whiny. And two of those schools have Heisman-trophy-caliber QBs....
  11. You would think that would be one of the first things covered when you're coaching a QB that's prone to INTs...right?... Well you can lead a horse to water....... ... or sit him on the bench.
  12. Good point. I wonder if they "save" a couple scholarships this year to have a couple extra next year. Or through summer/fall attrition they are able to take early enrollees in 2017 and back count them. They would have a better idea of how many schollys are available then. Possibly. But that's kind of gambling on who can early enroll and if you can get them.
