  1. Especially the second effort at the kick. He had a brief moment to chill but cleated him anyway. I have been as adamant as anyone in defending his "dirty" playing in conversations with others, but that was just a sign of something... and you know what? If he had come out and said, "I lost my cool, I got mad about some things I thought were going on, and I acted out pretty stupidly," it would seem considerably less bad. But that was a childish explanation. As an aside-- I wonder how Detroit Fan (from Detroit) is taking this. After years of being a joke, they finally have a player who is tough, nasty, and effective. I donno... if I were a detroitian, I might feel an odd sense of pride and identity with him. I was embarrassed for Detroit that the whole country had to watch that. I'm glad he was ejected, and he deserves to be suspended. I thought Gholston of MSU was a punk for the cheap shots he took in the Michigan game, and it would be a double standard to say that this should be any different. I thought a little of "dirty" reputation was overblown before today, but now I think most of Detroit agrees that he has some serious work to do if he ever wants to shed that reputation.
  2. 2007: #12 class 2008: #10 class 2009: # 8 class 2010: # 20 class 2011: # 21 class The last couple weren't great, but most players with significant minutes were from top 10-15 classes. Don't underestimate how bad of a coach rich rod was.
  3. While I agree a couple calls Michigan got were pretty bad, I don't think you could show me any sporting event that doesn't have a handful of absurdly bad calls. It's part of the game. I recall the 2005 Alamo Bowl where Nebraska got the benefit of some pretty questionable calls too. Was it the reason Michigan lost? Of course not, but a bad call is just a random event; some go in your favor, some go against you.
  4. Thanks, guys. Wish I coulda been there to meet your visiting fans in person (I've heard nothing but great things). I think we definitely benefitted from some home cooking officiating and turnovers. This has definitely been an.... unpredictable year for the B1G, but I love having you guys in it, and can't wait to visit Lincoln next year.
  5. Corner falls down, safeties knock each other over. Most pathetic defensive play I have ever seen.
  6. He wasn't injured last saturday. He was benched because he had two straight red zone turnovers and nearly threw a pick six while being tackled. This just went over Craig James' head, who just assumed Denard must have been injured. Denard is a great athlete, but he makes dumb, dumb decisions. I don't really see him having a big day against you guys, because he has yet to play well against a solid defense in 2 years. I read in a couple of news reports that he had a light sprain to one of his wrists? Yep, very light. Hoke said he could have played on the next series (which I interpreted as he was benched)
  7. I think the big ten has been overrated because 2 of the three traditional powers (Michigan, Penn State) have been down since 2006. Now, Ohio State is down too. A conference is mainly judged based on how its top tier teams do. MSU and Wisconsin are good teams, but I don't think they are strong enough to be flagship programs for a conference (I thought they were, but they each had embarrassing bowl losses last year). While it is a very deep conference, I don't think it will get respect until some combination of Michigan/Nebraska/Ohio State/PSU is back on top
  8. B10 QBs, I would rank: 1) Wilson 2) Vanderberg 3) Persa 4) Cousins after that, big drop off to: 5-6) TM/Robinson (I honestly think they are a wash...explosive on the ground but bad completion percentages and bad TD-INT ratios. Denard is more explosive but TM is less error-prone) vandy=no. cousins=no. you are looking at it from a pure passing perspective. rushing IS a part of the game and has to be taken into account. i would say that both of our qbs are top 4 in conference for sure. stats arent everything. you cant measure leadership in stats last i checked. and i would argue that both are about the same explosively. you wont see it this weekend because TM has been held back for obvious reasons but he is a very very explosive player. Eh...I hope I'm wrong, but I really think Denard has regressed every week this year. The past 2 weeks, he was downright terrible (he had 2 awful turnovers which singlehandedly lost the Iowa game). His main job right lately has been to be a distraction to the defense to clear up space for our running backs. At this point, I don't think I could put him in the top 4 in the league.
  9. 1) I would give a slight edge to PSU, but I made it to the UM-ND game this year and have never heard a stadium that loud in my life (and I've been to a night game at PSU). But I don't think a noon crowd in november can compare to a night game in september. Also, I don't think Happy Valley was particularly intimidating last week with the somber mood. 2) I think defenses go PSU > MSU > Michigan. But the differences aren't really all that great. We do struggle with mobile QB's, though.
  10. MSU's offensive line has been absolutely ravaged by injuries and he still has pretty impressive stats despite this. Vandenberg has the big tens 3rd best passing efficiency, and I've been pretty impressed when I watch him play. Either way, I think both of our QB's have a lot to fix before they are top 3 in the conference.
  11. Denard is more explosive but TM is less error-prone)
  12. No logical M fan disrespects your defense after seeing that MSU beatdown. That said, I think you guys are over-estimating how much of a one man team michigan is. This hasn't really been true since notre dame.
  13. 1. I've never seen Denard have a good game against a good defense. Yes, he is healthy. 3. They are OK. Good punter, mediocre kicker. Kick/punt coverage is so-so.
  15. Well Hoke is going to go back to the Henne/Hart days, but we need the players first. His first recruiting class looks far more like the old school michigan (dropback, slow QBs, big bruising linemen). He is just smart enough to know that a spread look is the best chance we have with the players we have. I think after Denard graduates, it will be a long, long time before we ever have another mobile QB.
