  1. Assuming Riley is gone by the end of the year, is there anyone on this staff that is worth keeping if you are the newly hired coach? If so who would you keep?
  2. Which sports are doing better? I wasn't aware that was happening or are we talking about the bowling team
  3. I love my huskers but I truly believe we have a worse athletic director the peterson and a worse coach than Callahan. I still expect to win this game. At what point do you almost hope to lose enough games by enough points to make change happen. I enjoy winning if we are ever to compete in the big 10 we need better administration and a heck of a better coach!
  4. Trying to think of realistic people we could get if we fired Riley. At the top of my head I am thinking dj durkin, Scott frost, Jim leavitt, who else?
  5. So maybe the question is what would have to happen for Nebraska to be good again. I agree we need to not just measure it by wins and losses but also by who we beat and how we win. While in recent history we have had 9 wins almost every season, it seems we have barely escaped defeat against lackluster teams (think Mcneese state and northwestern or losses to pursue and illinois and we barely won those last year). I have heard countless times how recruiting is the missing piece and how great Riley is doing in recruiting but Callahan had top classes (though some fizzled) and Riley classes aren't near that of Ohio State Michigan or Penn state. If it is coaching, would Nebraska ever be willing to spend the money it takes to get a big name coach? I grow tired of hearing how no coach would consider coaching for Nebraska (while we may never get saban, meyer, fisher, harbaugh, or sweeney). For many coaches it cones down to what amount we are willing to pay. I am not kicking Riley out yet but I can't imagine him being our coach in another 10 years. Is it an administration problem? Bo had plenty of issues but I never felt he was given a lot of support by eichorst. Speaking of eichorst, what is he getting paid so much for? Our athletics have declined if anything since he took over and he is I believe the 5th highest paid ad. If he wants to spend his time looking into recruiting regulations and such maybe he should petition for a conference commissioner job. For AD we need someone that is going to fight to ensure Nebraska has a competitive athletic program.
  6. Marking 20 years from our last national championship (hard to believe), have husker fans finally settled for mediocrity? It seems the majority of the preseason predictions have Nebraska coming in with no more than 7-8 wins and no better than 3rd in the Big 10 WEST. Yet the majority of the fan base I hear from seems more than willing to give Riley several years regardless of record. I get Riley is a nice guy and Nebraska needed to change some culture after Bo left (you can't make enemies with the fans). I also wouldn't be surprised if we won 9 games this year if all goes right. I guess I just want to know where all the husker Koolaid is coming from because I am having a hard time seeing it. Have fans thrown in the towel as far as hoping for greatness! Have we become content with a football team and athletic department that is middle of the pack in the big 10 or is there a light somewhere at the end of the tunnel?
  7. Every year we see a hot seat for head coaches. I thought it would be interesting to do thid just for Nebraska Coaches. This yr (so far) we saw Read get the axe. Here is my list of NU Football coaches who have the hottest seat: #1 Reggio Davis- no big rb commit so far this yr and doesn't seem like a stellar recruiter in general. Our rb's have struggled last couple years more than any other time I can remember. #2 Brian Stewart- after one yr of being secondary coach our defensive coordinator chooses to take over the safeties. In the second year we hire a secondary coach. What does this mean for stewart? #3 Mark Banker- we made improvement and have a better supporting staff of coaches. However, we are still having too many melt downs (iowa, Ohio state) and too many big plays allowed. I know we play bend don't break but it felt like we let an awful lot of bend sometimes and always was wondering when we were gonna let up a big play or even show up at all. Time for Banker to prove he can have a great defense. #4 Cavanaugh- offensive line flat out got smacked this yr and not just against top quality opponents. Every team has injuries so that excuse can only be used so much. Our running game is dismal and perhaps that is because of number 1 on the list or because we have more of a passing offense. Bottom line with Gates and Foster back next year and several red shirted players with tons of potential next yr it is time to start looking like a pipeline again. #5 John Parrella- too early to tell. This is a fan favorite who walked into a bad situation and has seemed to do well so far. Why is he #5. Our defensive line still isn't getting enough pressure. Parrella may end up being one of our best coaches. Right now it is just too early to know. #6 Donte Williams- our newest coach and he can recruit. Unlikely he will go anywhere if he lives anywhere near up to his expectations. #7 tie Mike Riley/Danny Langsford- Riley probably only needs 7 or 8 wins next yr and he will remain our coach(whether you are for or against him). If he goes every one else probably goes too. Langsford I feel is tied to the Riley Package. I don't see him going anywhere unless Riley gets fired regardless of how our offense performs. #9 Keith Williams- so long as he stays away from trouble with alcohol, he is our best recruiter and an awesome coach. Any program would love to have him on their staff. Even if Riley were gone we would be lucky to keep Williams (though it would be a long shot at that time). Thoughts?
  8. With the end of 2016 coming upon us, It is fun to look at what 2017 may behold. With so many variables and too far ahead I have no guesses on how we will finish, but have what I see as our best and worse scenario. Best Case Scenerio: The huskers land many of their top targets and get a couple surprises and end with a top 20 recruiting class. With the help of offensive linemen redshirted in 2016 and a healthy Foster and offensive line, the offense soars to new heights with an air raid. The Huskers win all the games they are supposed to and upset Oregon, and Wisconsin. The huskers Lose to Ohio State and another conference game but manage to win the Big 10 West. The huskers lose in the Big 10 Championship game but win their bowl game and end the year 11-3. Worse case scenario: The huskers gaffe on most of the remaining class and and don't fill some positions of need. They end up ranked in the top 40 but don't reach the top 25 recruiting class. The huskers start the season out decent with a 4-1 record losing only to Oregon. But with a newer qb and no rushing attack, they proceed to lose to Wisconsin and Ohio State. They manage to beat Purdue or Minnesota but lose the rest of their games. Eichorst is let go because every men's sport has declined since he took over. The new AD immediately fires Riley. We finish the year with a 5-6 record. For the record, I do not see either option happening. Most likely something in between will happen. However, I see no way we do better than the first option (hope I am wrong) and if we have a season like the second option see no way Riley maintains his job. I do not believe he gets a "free pass" until (insert date here). Thoughts?
  9. My primary pick for a rival in the big 10 would be Wisconsin. I like trophy games that the big ten has That being said this is how I would lay it out: We would play Iowa Veterans day weekend for the Heroes trophy. We would play Wisconsin the day after Thanksgiving for the BIG RED RIVALRY (loser has to wear black next game) or something similar. Other possibilities Although, I hope it doesn't continue to be as close of a rivalry against Northwestern the winner could receive a trophy of a graduation cap and diploma or something. Minnesota used to play this team before we were in the big 10 way back when and hopefully again it is never close but I wouldn't mind having a trophy in our trophy case every year for walloping on this team.
  10. I thought the Wisconsin game was more embarrassing as well. It seemed they ran the same play over and over and over again. Every time we seemed to have no clue on how to stop it.
  11. Between the 2 I would say the Ohio State game. It was against a traditionally good oponent, even if they did have their worse team in over a decade. Northwestern, although I am happy we won, and although it was an incredible ending, was almost an embarrassment. I understand we are no longer in the 90s and Tom Osborne is no longer our coach, but being the equivalent to the likes of Northwestern and Iowa is hard to swallow. I would atleast like to be able to destroy the mediocre and lesser teams in the conference. Still I am looking forward to the season, hopefully a strong defense can take us to new heights under Pelini. My vote for best win under pelini would probably be the Oklahoma win (although opposing team ranking wise there were better wins).
  12. Texas Tech 2004: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-P4Fs6PFZQ or Wisconsin 2012 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2MRxQ9dw-ok
  13. Personally I would like to see the Iowa game played around Veterans day and the Wisconsin game on Black Friday. Even though Nebraska the last few years hasn't been a huge threat to Wisconsin, traditionally we have the biggest name in the West Division. Hopefully, Nebraska returns this year to being a threat to the top teams in the conference. To Me having Northwestern, Iowa, Minnesota, or any similar team as a rival is a joke... We have too much tradition for us to call them a rival (unless every team you play is a rival), atleast not the main rival. If it becomes the norm for us to barely compete with the lower half of the Big Ten and calling some of the lower half teams our rival, then it is time for Nebraska to look in a different direction.
  14. Tom Osborne made the right decision in hiring Bo, i have no doubt. Remember Callahan? He took away the walk on program. He made our running QBs pass. He insulted Oklahoma Tom Osborne, and our fans. He ruined every record ever held in Nebraska. I remember watching fans wear bags over there heads in games out of disgrace. The list can go on. There is a list of all the coaches hired the same year as Bo and Bo has the best record. He brought us back to winning seasons, to division championships and to conference championship games. He brought us respect back in the Big 12 and brought the walk on program back. He cleaned up off the field issues, and brought our athletes grades up to the highest mark ever in history. I have a lot of respect for what Bo has done and I think this week that deserves to be remembered. I think we are ready for another chapter in Nebraska football. However, I think Due to Bo's success we are not in the same situation we were in when We fired Callahan. If Bo does not return to Nebraska next season, I wish him the best and have confidence he could have success in his future endeavors. I am pulling for a new coach in hopes of achieving greatness, but I think Bo deserves a big Thank You for bringing us this far.
  15. MIchigan, bowl game- definite loss Michigan st, northwestern- probable loss Penn State,Illinois- who knows purdue, iowa-should win sdsu- Definite win (i hope)
  16. How about Mark Dantonio with a big offensive coordinator hire.
  17. I want to start by saying I am hopeful that Bo Pelini has a great season and is very successful at Nebraska. What I get annoyed of hearing, however, is that should Bo Pelini not work out that no coach would be interested in the position or that Bo Pelini is untouchable and can escape with another sub par year. Below is a link to when Osborne Fired Callahan. I am linking this as I believe Osborne lays out what the standards of Nebraska football are. When Bo Pelini arrived he said something along the lines of "I have never coached a bad defense". Lets see how his defense stacks up. (http://www.cornnatio...defense-edition) Don't think it is that bad? Watch the wisconsin game highlights again. Compare them to the texas tech highlights Again, I am hopeful we see a quick turn around and I am not saying we fire a coach coming off a win. However, if Pelini gets the Axe this year, here are some reasons a coach may be interested in Nebraska(There is no place like Nebraska). 1. We are the 4th winningest football team. 2. We have some of the best football facilities in the nation. 3.We are in a historic and strong conference (even if the SEC is the king of football right now). 4. Our football coaches make a good amount of money and we have money to pay a football coach. 5. We have a schedule in the next few years that sets us up for success. 6. We have a strong offense and talent on our team where a coach doesn't have to start from scratch. 7. We have some of the best Fans in the country. 8. We have a strong walk on program. 9. You are no longer following a Hall of Famer (Osborne). 10. The Nebraska brand still resonates nationwide. Finally, everyone acts like it is completely unprecedented for any team to fire a coach for few losses. How about John Cooper (Ohio State) how about Lloyd Carr Frank Solich of course Mark Richt has been on the hot seat. My memory doesn't serve me well but my point is most teams with history and prestige also have high standards. I really hope Bo Pelini turns this ship around. Right now I am not sure he will.
  18. Hopefully Wiscy gets put in our division so we can schedule them for the day after Thanksgiving. Must admit I didn't read everyone's reply but I agree. I would love to see Wisconsin (not Iowa and definitely not Penn State) as our rival.
  19. schriznoeder, I like your creativity with how the divisions play. Although your plan should provide a sure way to the Big 10 Championship, I would like to see the big 10 add some meat to the conference. If a team wants to consider itself great it has to beat other great teams. Utah and West Virginia are two teams in the past who had easy schedules and had nice winning percentages, until they joined a conference and played some real games. The Big 10's reputation is already in question and adding more Patsy's isn't going to help the matter. Whether anyone likes it or not Football is still the moneymaker in college sports. The most realistic idea is the big 10 adding 2 cream puffs simply because they are AAU Members and staying at 16 (four four team pods) unless notre dame ever decides to join in which case the big 10 would expand most likely to 20. I find it disappointing, however, seeing the Big Ten add teams like maryland, rutgers, virginia, and georgia tech, while other leagues are looking at teams like Florida State, Clemson, and Virginia Tech. The Big 10 is already having trouble competing against the SEC (for several reasons) and I don't see these new teams helping the matter. `
  20. I think you may be on to something with the academics. The Big 10 insists on only adding teams that are AAU Members. Which means these are our choices:http://www.aau.edu/about/article.aspx?id=5476. Anyone see any one of interest among those? I wasn't a huge fan of Rutgers or Maryland. Really won't be a fan if we continue to go with that mind set, although it appears to be inevitable.
  21. I don't care for Texas much either. As far as revenue sharing, I believe the Big 12 is currently revenue sharing everything except the Longhorn network. http://content.usatoday.com/communities/campusrivalry/post/2011/10/big-12-revenue-sharing-agreement-grant-broadcast-rights/1#.UQgMDWfYewA. If they were willing to do away with the Longhorn network in return for the Big Ten network, I believe all parties would come ahead in the bargain. The Big 10 would gain better recruiting footprint in Texas, some big name schools (Texas, Oklahoma), several respectable teams, Some natural Rivalries(Iowas vs Iowa State, Nebraska vs Oklahoma), and new markets. The Big 12 needs some new teams to keep the big 12 strong http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/_/id/8891859/big-12-athletic-directors-discuss-pros-cons-staying-10-teams, Their games would be televised every week nationally via the big 10 network. Both teams would gain strength of schedule and it would keep us from adding teams like Virginia that have no merit to get themselves into the Big 10. Geographically it would also put teams in 4 regions with the other teams in the division being mostly border states. We would only play Texas once every five years unless it happened at the end of the year. I for one wouldn't mind getting another shot at Texas. You always want to go out on top and we have not yet accomplished that.
  22. So long as it is agreed every one gets equal share. If that is the case, Ohio State and Texas are virtually the same. Don't care for either but they help with recruiting and do bring in a good amount of money. I also see virtually no way the other Texas schools nor the Oklahoma schools leave without Texas.
  23. Division red (Texas, Baylor, Texas Tech, TCU, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State) Division Green (Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Indiana, Purdue, Minnesota) Division Blue (Nebraska, Wisconsin, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State) Division Orange (Penn State, West Virginia, Rutgers, Maryland, Northwestern, Illinois) My Proposition is that the Big Ten and Big 12 Merge into one Division Call the Big 24 or simply THE BIG. The Conference would then negotiate to get 2 BCS Bowls. I have outlined how this would happen below. Some Sample Schedules: Each team would start the conference off against a protected rival ( a school from a different division that they play every year). 10 Conference Games Baylor: Non Conference, Non-conference, protected rival; Iowa State, Oklahoma ,1 orange, Oklahoma State, 1 green ,TCU, 1 blue, Texas, Texas Tech, Illinois: Nonconference, non-conference, protected rival; Indiana, Penn State, 1 red, Maryland, 1 blue, West Virginia, 1 green, Rutgers, Northwestern, Indiana: Non Conference, Non-conference, Protected Rival; Illinois, Indiana, 1 blue, Minnesota, 1 red, Ohio State, 1 orange, Michigan State, Purdue Iowa: Non Conference, Non-conference, protected rival; Michigan, Kansas,1 Green, Wisconsin, 1 Orange, Kansas State, 1 red, Nebraska, Iowa State, Iowa state: Non Conference, Non-conference, protected rival; Oklahoma State, Wisconsin, 1green, Kansas State , 1 orange, Nebraska, 1 red, Kansas, Iowa Kansas: Non-Conference, Non-Conference, Protected Rival; TCU, Iowa, 1 Green, Nebraska, 1 Orange, Wisconsin, 1 red, Iowa State, Kansas State Kansas State: Non-Conference, Non-Conference, Protected Rival; Texas, Nebraska, 1 green, Iowa State, 1 orange, Iowa , 1 red, Wisconsin, Kansas Maryland: Non Conference, Non-conference, Protected rival; Minnesota, West Virginia, 1 red, Rutgers, 1 blue, Northwestern, 1 green, Illinois, Penn State Michigan: Non Conference, Non-conference, protected rival; Iowa, Michigan State, 1 blue, Indiana, 1 red, Minnesota, 1 orange, Purdue, Ohio State Michigan State: Non Conference, Non-conference, Protected Rival; Wisconsin, Michigan, 1 blue, Ohio State, 1 red, Purdue, 1 orange, Indiana, Minnesota Minnesota: Non Conference, Non-conference, Protected Rival; Maryland, Indiana, 1 red,Purdue, 1 blue, Michigan, 1 orange, Ohio State, Michigan State Nebraska: Non-Conference, Non-Conference, Protected Rival; Oklahoma, Kansas State, 1 green, Kansas, 1 orange, Iowa State, 1 Red, Iowa, Wisconsin Northwestern: Non-Conference, Non-Conference, Protected Rival; Purdue, Rutgers, 1 red, West Virginia, 1 blue, Maryland,1 green ,Penn State, Illinois Ohio State: Non-Conference, Non-Conference , Protected Rival; Penn State, Purdue, 1 blue, Michigan State, 1 Red, Indiana, 1orange, Minnesota, Michigan Purdue: Non-Conference, Non-Conference, Protected Rival;,Ohio State, 1 blue, Minnesota, 1 red, Michigan State, 1orange Michigan, Indiana Wisconsin: Non-Conference, Non-Conference, Protected Rival; Michigan State, Iowa State, 1 Green, Iowa, 1 Orange, Kansas, 1 Red, Kansas State, Nebraska etc, etc etc with other B1G Schools Right now there are 9 conference games. This is by design. At the end of the year is the B1G Tournament. Each Team is team is paired up against an opposing team of equal strength in a different division red vs blue and green vs orange. The standings are based upon 1. standings in division, 2. head to head win, 3.conference record, 4. Ranking Red Seed 1 Seed 2 Seed 3 Seed 4 Seed 5 Seed 6 Blue Seed 1 Seed 2 Seed 3 Seed 4 Seed 5 Seed 6 Green Seed 1 Seed 2 Seed 3 Seed 4 Seed 5 Seed 6 Orange Seed 1 Seed 2 Seed 3 Seed 4 Seed 5 Seed 6 The Regular Season is now over and now it is time for the conference championship: East(the winner of red and blue seeds 1) vs west (the winner of green and orange seeds 1). Other than in Tournament or Conference Championship, each team would play every team in its division every year. They would play every team in their protected rivals division every 5 years. They would play every team in the other 2 divisions every 6 years. *Division names to be determined colors used for easier understanding of scheme.
  24. Some names for head or assistant coaches we should go after: my thoughts: Wisconsin's line and strength and conditioning coaches for same position for us. Walsh or whatever taylor martinez's off-season qb mentor for qb coach. Luke Fickel- D Coordinator (osu has a good run defense). Keep Bo, Ron Brown, Joseph, and Fisher, Scott Frost- Recruiting Coordinator/ tight ends new coaches for linebackers and d line: and pay whatever it takes to get the best. what are your thoughts.
