  1. If we are mediocre, what are y'all? We destroyed y'all 35-7 this year.
  2. If Alshon didn't have that TD to end the 1st half, it would have been different, I agree. That 1 play seemed to suck the air out of 1/2 the stadium. Then our defense just went all out the 2nd half. Marcus had his surgery, everything went well and he's currently rehabbing the injury. While there has been no official report citing the extent of damage and the specific ligaments/tendons torn, we all could see from the replay that it's a nasty injury. The latest "word" came from an article by Phil Kornblut in his interview with RB recruit David Williams. Williams told Phil that the USC coaches didn't think Marcus was coming back next season (which would make since since his injury happened later in this past season.) Marcus told Gamecock Nation on Youtube that he would be back to play at USC. So there are mixed messages, and we might not know until IF his draft paperwork is turned in. I could see him trying to enter the draft this year and getting paid to rehab on a pro roster, but his pick/earning potential will take a hit. Honestly I think he'd be lucky to be picked up in the 3rd or earlier rounds. He very well might still take a full season to rehab and come into the 2014 draft or USC season.
  3. LOL my bad, I woud hate to be looked at as a fan of anyone else in he BIG so sorry about that!!!! I will tell you that I went to a game in Athens about 4 years ago for the Border War when you guys beat UGA...... I loved it!!!! No worries. We're excited about out matchup with UGA next year in Athens. We've won 2 of the last 3 games there, the last 3 consecutive matchups, and this game will set a new record for consecutive wins against UGA and pull Spurrier ahead of Richt in their head to head matchup. Next year we'll be returning 9 starters on offense and they are losing 10+ on defense, so we are going to rip through them again.
  4. I think that is a fair assessment in alot of ways. I agree that alot of players start looking ahead to the draft with the HUGE break in games. I also feel that we are gonna have alot of guys feeling that they have to prove something. I think Murray is gonna have his head in the game, he knows you guys should have beat Alabama. We have a great pass Defense but we really stuggle with the run. This is usually with running QB's. I dont expect the same thing to happen to us in the bowl game that happened in the CCG. We usually prepare well for running backs. I could see us playing you close but I could also see us melting down with turnovers and UGA running away with the game. Oh no, just to be clear, I'm a Gamecock, not a lowly bulldog.
  5. Huskers, you made it to the Big10 Championship like I predicted in my preseason thread, congratulations! Then you got #clemsoned and I didn't see that coming. Now you're going back to Orlando for a good bowl game. Here's my perspective on your upcoming matchup with UGA. UGA is a balanced offense, but the slightly favor the run with 2 RB's who have break away speed. They rank 42nd in rushing offense. Murray throws for a lot of yards, but I don't know where his head is at after the SECCG meltdown when he ran off the field w/o shaking hands. They rank 33rd in passing offense. Their defense has NFL potential everywhere, but how many of those guys are already thinking about the combine and not this game? UGA's 3-4 system is easier to run on than a 4-3 system. They rank 78th in rushing defense and 8th in passing defense. Where UGA is significantly better than y'all is in turnover margin, they are 20th and y'all are 105th. Other than that, both teams are relatively close in a lot of categories. Both teams have a lot of upper-classmen playing in this game, but quite frankly UGA has more players projected at higher picks in the NFL draft. This could play into UN's favor though, b/c they have guys still trying to advance their draft potential. As evenly matched as these teams are statistically, I think that whoever wins the turnover battle and avg's more yards per carry will win the game. I think both teams are going to want to run the ball a lot, knowing that the other team's rushing defense ranked below avg. An XFactor that UN has for this game is that you are ranked, which seems to be kryptonite for UGA and Murray. They've only beaten 1 ranked team in 3 years. I think 34-27 in favor of UGA is a fair prediction, unless the kryptonite takes hold and their players are looking towards the combine.
  6. I like to bet on sports. I try to look at statistics, history (experience), player profiles, etc.... If you dive into some of those areas, y'all just might see that y'all got some good things going. At least on paper, everything is shaping up for NU. My low end projection would be 1 loss from the Big1G Championship game, but with that schedule and running game a trip to the Big1G championship game is entirely reasonable.
  7. We're just a little over a month until the season starts. I decided to pull for y'all to in the Big1G and I think you have a shot. I don't think y'all are as under the radar as some people are predicting. The way I see it: - 8 starters returning on Offense -retrurning, QB, RB, both WR's, 3 OL, and TE -have 4 guys back on the line (3 OL and TE) is big - 8 starters returning on Defense -returning , both DE's, DT, Buck, MLB, 3 of the 4 guys in secondary. - Maher is returning (he was great at the Cap One Bowl) - ranked 15th in NCAA for rushing yards a year ago. - ranked 104th in passing, but Cotton missed games and the WR's are back and more experienced. Also, you don' have to pass if you can run over people. - Total defense was ranked 37th last year, and you're returning a lot of starters. - 18th in Pass Defense - Total offense was ranked 66th last year, and your're returning a lot of starters in skill positions (so they're more experienced.) - 27th in Net Punting - 7th in Kickoff returns ( I believe your return man is back) - However, low rankings for turnovers, sacks and TFL's. - One of your biggest reasons I pick y'all to win the Legends division this year is due to scheduling. DATE OPPONENT RESULT/TIME RECORD/TICKETS Sat, Sept 1 vs Southern Miss 3:30 PM ET Tickets Sat, Sept 8 @ UCLA 7:30 PM ET Tickets Sat, Sept 15 vs Arkansas State 12:00 PM ET Tickets Sat, Sept 22 vs Idaho State TBD Tickets Sat, Sept 29 vs Wisconsin 8:00 PM ET Tickets Sat, Oct 6 @ Ohio State 8:00 PM ET Tickets Sat, Oct 20 @ Northwestern TBD Tickets Sat, Oct 27 vs Michigan 8:00 PM ET Tickets Sat, Nov 3 @ Michigan State TBD Tickets Sat, Nov 10 vs Penn State TBD Tickets Sat, Nov 17 vs Minnesota TBD Tickets Fri, Nov 23 @ Iowa 12:00 PM ET Tickets IMO, your 2 toughest games are Mich and Wisc, both are at home. Your toughest OOC game is UCLA and they suck. You'll open the season at 4-0, then it's some close games after that. - Iowa is missing too many pieces and doesn't have a lot of starters returning. - Mich State is in the same boat as Iowa - The rest of the division aren't Top 25 teams, except... - Michigan is the key here. You beat them at home, you win the division, IMO. (They lost some key DL men) -You guys should find yourself in a rematch with Wisconsin for the Big1G championship. Here's an idea, how about we both go 13-0 and I'll see y'all in Miami! Good luck this season.
  8. Gamecocks are taking the same approach as 2010. Drop an early game, but then BATTLE through. This will be a good series with zona, they can pitch and they're rested.
  9. haha, Allow me to jog your memory. The team you guys played in your last bowl game.
  10. Glad the team is going back to Omaha and defending the title again. Michael Roth is excited to be on Nebraskan billboards again, I'm sure. Should be a really competitive series this year. Florida and Florida State are both playing really well now, and a couple Cinderella's in Kent State and Stoney Brook are coming as well. Arkansas is upcoming Team SEC too. UCLA and Arizona are coming from the Pac12. Really interesting story with Stoney Brook, small conference champ, #4 seed in regional, obviously won their regionals, and then beat a national seed, LSU, in Baton Rouge. They had 7 players drafted this year. I talked to some tigers, and they all agreed that LSU played good ball, but Stoney Brooks players were flat out better top to bottom.
  11. Going 10-2 with a team that was under a litany of sanctions and had nothing to play for has got to be a challenge. He's actually a pretty good coach. Enough so that Barkley turned down millions to come back and play for him. As the late great Colonel Sanders once said, "I'm too drunk to taste that chicken." Seriously, Kitten is not a good coach. Under his watch at USCw they had all of the Bush drama, recruiting violations, and overall program problems. Carroll made USCw relevant again, not Kitten. Kitten went to Tennessee to be the hero from a ailing Fulmer dynsasty...but instead he lit that program on fire with sanctions, violations, whoring (have y'all even seen the recruiting hostess pic.'s?) and he ran out of town in the middle of the night the DAY BEFORE his early enrollee recruits were supposed to report to campus. Now he's playing in a pitifully weak PAC12 and can't win out. Kitten is not a good coach, he might know a little about X's and O's, but he doesn't no jack about leadership or integrity. As far Barkley staying in So Cal...he saw all of the other QB's coming off and knew he might not end up a Top 10 let alone a 1st round QB. He's staying to improve his stock, and lets face it...they're probably paying him to stay...that's USCw's thing. (they're still doing it, and they're not the only ones, look at the Marc Tyler TMZ video.)
  12. After reading the thread I have several thoughts. -The "too damn high" poster was very funny. -Y'all shouldn't consider arky a contender, they will not do as well without Petrino. He was necessary to their success. -Florida State, UGA, and TCU are over ranked. -Gamecocks at #8 is fair, I hope we can live up to the hype. We have 5 games scheduled against pre-season Top 25 teams. -Finally, USCw has no shot at knocking off the SEC this year in the Championship, for several reasons: Lame Kitten is a bad coach, his programs fall apart, USC will lose 1or2 of 3 games played against Oregon, Washington, and Utah, the reduction in scholarships they've had will hurt their depth as the season progresses, and finally, the SEC is the SEC, everybody's looking up and nobody has beat them in the BCSCG over 6 years. It was getting so bad that we had to start sending 2 of our SEC teams to the BCSCG. With the strength of schedule mattering so much to the BCS, a 1 loss SEC team will be taken over a 1 loss USCw team.
  13. Wow, so this might have cost him 5 rounds. New England isn't new to picking up "troubled" players. Belichick did a wonder for Moss. This could be a good fit.
  14. That just goes to show that cheaters never win, and winners never cheat. Oh wait. I guess the Cheating Gamecocks did kick our ass in the Cap-One fiasco bowl. Doohhh! How did I know that it'd be you to bring this up.... You aren't still mad about the Cap One Bowl thresing, are you?
  15. Sweet, nothing more than what we proposed for punishment...that's rare for these NCAA hearings. I think our AD said it best when he said that the hotel fiasco was just someone who looked at the $ amounts and figured it was the same as renting a local apartment and it must be "ok", really that it was just a university offical's judgement error not the players'. We paid the fine, we're on probation, and we hired 8 more people to help in the compliance office to keep this from happening again. Our independent counsel and the team that setup the strategy to deal with this did a great job.
  16. Wow, that was very dumb...a cop...really!?!? His agent must be pissed. At least it's harder to realize what one's lost when one never had it. His draft stock will take a hit to the face...pun intended. Seriously though, it sucks for him and his family.
  17. He's not an Ellis Johnson, but he's one of the best available that's looking for a job while still being employed. Stoops offered to double his salary this year, but he went also went to clemtech to check it out and WVU has him at the top of their board. oklahoma's rankings for Total Defense during Coach V's time were: 2011-55 2010-53 2009-8 2008-68 2007-26 2006-16 http://web1.ncaa.org/stats/StatsSrv/rankings?doWhat=archive&sportCode=MFB Also, if you follow his recruiting, he's landed a lot of REALLY great recruits from TX and the mid-west. (This isn't intended to be a Star Rating debate, but you might recognize a several of those players names, 4/5 Star guys now playing in the NFL or with Pro-potential) http://www.rivals.com/viewcoach.asp?Coach=80&Team=57&Sport=1&Year=2006 So he had 3 great seasons and 3 average ones, but who would be better that's out there and available?
  18. damn, what 3 games did you watch? USC, michigan and wisconsin. We have a duel threat QB, so I wanted to see how y'all played against that type of player during the year. (before our game) I would classify him as more of a dual threat... unless he is very skilled in fencing Shaw is a robot, you can program him for just about anything. On game day, Spurrier just flips the switch to "Beast Mode".
  19. damn, what 3 games did you watch? USC, michigan and wisconsin. We have a duel threat QB, so I wanted to see how y'all played against that type of player during the year. (before our game)
  20. His last game a Big East team put up 70 points against his D...you guys don't deserve that kind of crap. Steele dumbed down his defense so much, b/c he said he had "young players," only that was a sham. Check the Depth Chart yourself, there wasn't a single freshman who was the starter and only a fistful on the 2 Deep. http://clemson.rivals.com/cdepthtext.asp You guys should be going after Coach V from OU.
  21. Let me preface by saying, I only watched 3 Nebraska games this year. However, TM could be a great QB, if he works on his release (speed and quickness) and goes through his check-downs at a faster pace. He's got the feet to keep the chains moving, but good defenses know how to stop mobile qb's now. Y'all's OL is good, as always, so he has time to throw, he's just got to make better decisions and improve accuracy.
  22. uga @ #6 is a joke. They didn't beat a Top 25 team in 2011, and they're losing key players. They keep Ogletree and Rambo, so that's good for them, but their OL is depleted and they can never keep those guys healthy anyway. They've got a cake-walk schedule, USC will be the best team they play all year (we're the only ranked team they'll play), so I think they still win 10 Reg Season games, go to a Cap One/Outback/Gator bowl and get smashed by another Big1G opponent. During this year's schedule changes, they were able to Drop Alabama to pickup Mizzou, and they did it b/c they know they'd get smashed. The c$%ks at #10 is fair, we also have a tough schedule, with 4 games against teams on that Top 25 pre-season ranking, including lsu and arky. We will have our s**t cut out for us to get 10 Reg Season wins.
  23. Perhaps I just worded it poorly, but here's my thoughts on the issue. How many wide receivers can you name, right now, that have come down with more than one hail mary pass like that in their life? Not many, I assume. By extension, this makes the play a fluke catch he will probably never make again. This isn't a slight on his ability. It's an analysis of the situation and how he got the ball. Which goes back to what knapplc said, and what I really meant to say before. The play itself was a fluke. Great catch by Jeffrey, but it's one he won't make again, more than likely. lol at gamecocks--who purport to be a football fans--arguing that a Hail Mary TD is anything other than a fluke. This is a fine example of football stupidity showing through. If it's not a fluke why would any team ever punt? And why do you think it's named after a PRAYER? It's not a Hail Mary when you know if you put it up your guy is more than likely going to come down with it We've been throwing Bombs (passes of 30 yards or more to Alshon for 3 years.) He more often than not gets the ball b/c he's bigger and can jump higher than just about any DB in the country. There are soooo many in this clip it should illustrate the point AND he was making these catches against some of the best DB's in the NCAA. This clip is shorter and has some of the more amazing Bombs. Y'all watch a power run team, we watch a spread/zone read team. We see plays like Alshon made on Dennard all the time and have for years. I understand that if you don't see something often, or at all that it could be perceived as fictional, outlier, or fluke-ish, but to the Gamecocks, we see Alshon make grabs like those several times over the season. NU just decided not to double team Alshon so we got 2 Bombs off in the 1st have alone. Who knows how many yards he could've had if he didn't palm strike Dennard. I would think he would have easily had 200+ and anther TD. Heck, he was on pace for nearly 300 yards.
  24. One small quibble, jumping and catching the ball in a pack of players are skills. Exactly, there were 4 huskers and 2 c$%ks in the area, Alshon jumped higher, got the ball, turned and went through Dennard into the endzone. That's a good bit of skill and strength.
  25. haha, you can't argue stat's based on fictionally taking them away. What if the Gamecocks said, "Well, Dennard had 4 tackles, 0 passes defended and 0 interceptions, if you take away those 4 tackles, you wouldn't have even known he was there." My point is, there are NO MULLIGANS in football. We practiced that "Hail Mary" all year, and we've ran it a few times and we hit it this time. It wasn't luck, it was execution. Dennard won the fight, he landed 3 punches to Alshon's 1 open palm strike, but Dennard lost the matchup. In just over 1 half of football, Alshon caught 4 of 5 balls for 148 yards and a TD. Pelini gambled that Dennard could hold him and it didn't pay off. That's why SEC defenses doubled Alshon almost all of the time this year. I hate it for both guys that they ended their college careers like this, it's embarrassing for both to go out on ejections.
