  1. 5 3 & outs.......I think they are going for a record
  2. No first downs, 4 3 & outs, more penalties...........for crying out loud. This is truly sad thus far.
  3. I thinkl we need to get down by 20 or so, before we start playing. This must be a new strategy implemented into the WCO by BC.
  4. Great post!! As for the comment quoted, you are totally correct. However, I dont think that Cooper is a great coach by any means. Look at how he got handled by Michigan. Would he have been better than billy c, absolutely, but he is not a great HC. There are few, it seems, that you feel would not be a better head coach that BC. 5. What?,.....wow,.......so gay........... I am totally speechless....Why did I have to see that......so gay..........
  6. yep one more year and this thread can come back up imo The thing is, I remember a lot of people on this board saying the same thing last year. Many said if we don't show a big improvement in record this year, Callahan should feel some heat. It seems to me the goals keep changing in so we feel like we're progressing. I'm not one that thinks he should be fired right now...I'm a realist. We're stuck with him. I just think people should be more worried than they are. Regardless of how much progress we think we've made...there was really no excuse for not at least challenging for the north title this year and last year. The division is just so bad. And there's no excuse for having the 96th rated offense. Transition or not. I think Callahan has felt heat since he took over. Most D1 coachs feel heat to win. I do agree though, if he loses the final three games, Pederson will turn up the burner. I have defended BC in the past, but mostly on giving the guy ample time to recruit, install the system, and to let it all grow roots. He had and has a big obstacle to overcome, and if anyone thought it would run smooth in 1 or 2 years, they were fooling themselves. I do believe though, if he cannot overcome many of the mental mistakes, that many of these players are making, if he can't form a solid cohesive system, and if he cannot gain control of the North, by the end of next year, CRANK that heat up and let him dance. Next year, I really think it will come down to coaching, the talent card will have been overused.
  7. I am an elementary/secondary teacher who works with kids all day,..... he may have meant "I HAVE HAD IT UP TO HEAR", and drew a line across his neck.. Then you should be able to spell. It's here not hear.
  8. KU did beat Mizzou. Mizzou, at least in recent times, plays NU well at home. They could beat NU and then turn around and get beat by Baylor. They have just been playing NU well.
  9. Not with the law. Actually the law protects free speech (for now anyway). Might get your a$$ kicked though. Don't get me wrong, I agree that BC should conduct himself in a manner proper to his position, but what he did is in no way deserving of an investigation. I see coachs throwing hat, clipboards, etc on a regular basis. I see them yelling at the refs all of the time. This is no different, unless someone actually thinks he REALLY wanted to slit the throat of the ref. If so, they are retarded. First of all, did you call me dude? Second of all, in no way would I ever bring up Bobby Knight (I am not one of those pinheads). Actually, I was thinking more along the line of coaches like Ditka, Norv Turner, and Bill Cowher just to name a few, that have had there moments of scrutiny for acts of emotion. I know what you meant by the public eye, but the Supreme court is in a another total realm as a coach. But I did get your point. Not a comedian, but my occupation actually requires me to look at the many ways society conducts itself, and I will won't be fired or lose my business. Actually, there has been a constant rise of shock radio over the last 5 years. Stern is simply the face man that the FCC used to send a message. Don't kid yourself, movies, tv, radio, internet, and books are all finding new ways to shock or to push the limits of what is or should be acceptable. FCC could not fire Callahan, they could ban broadcasts of UN football, but not fire him. If that happened he would probably be fired by the university though. I was being facetious. Simply pointing out that once again we can bring things way too far. I actually could...I guess it is a great job. I understand yours as well, but I think it is up to people in the spotlight to push the envelope. I still don;t know what BC's actual intent was (don't care either), but I bet the next set of referees call some holding penalties. If they do, it was worth a fine!

    Murtha

I hope he does start. The young lineman need as much experience as they can get, so this problem will go away next year. Thomas and Evweraye (sp?) have proven themselves to be liabilities (even when promising to step it up).
  11. Definately, IMO, the worst in the 27 years I have been watching Husker football. Slow off the line, stupid penalties, and inability to sustain a block. I think if Taylor is going to get rushed anyway, put all youngsters in and let them learn. Why waste time with seniors?
  12. It was Professor Plumb in the hall with the candlestick. Doesn't mean we have to accept it, and it definately doesn't mean we have to add to its idiocy. He did put himself into that arena and he is in the public eye; but doing absoluty nothing that is offensive to anyone is impossible. Football is offensive to some people. If the gesture offended some people, so be it. I bet most people who are now offended, became so after the fact. Supreme Court Judge....football coach, I see the connection. Both are expected to act in a similar fashion . Even better! That would make me like the gesture even more. When would he be eligible for parole if convicted? Would the lawyer seek the death penalty?
  13. That's what I am talking about!!!!
  14. Same as any team, any year. Yawn. 2 starters injured. Any team could make this argument. Hmmm, the offense is worse, and the D is not much better. The only area with marked improvement is the special teams, but they were the worst in the nation last year. With this schedule, easily. NU would likely be 8-0 right now with TO and McBride, with their only loss to CU or UT in the Championship game. Bunk. TO won 9, 10, 11 games per year. He never "led" NU to a 5-6 season. FACT: billy c has coached on a bunch of mediocre teams, that have had mixed success and failure, nothing outstanding. He rides the coattails of taking another mans team to the SB, yet he destroyed the team the next year. The rest of his staff has similar "successes" on their resumes. This program is not getting better with them here. Uh, it is no surprise to anyone Former that you hate BC. Thanks for your astounding response.
  15. former, you are wrong here.....completely wrong. one year of recruiting has not nor will it not make for instant success.........instant gratification is for juveniles, get real with the world.........any changes, be it in how your company is run or how a football team is put together takes time......be realistic and qive these guys a chance, hell how would you fare if you were told to take over a failing segment of your company and turn things around? i guess if you couldn't change it immediately you should be given the boot too? think about your unrealistic expectations........alot of things have happened this year that are beyond the control of the coaches, think about it......... hunter Bunk, again. Yes, if I took over a successful area of my company and turned it into a "loser" I would be fired, no if, ands, or buts about it. And I guarentee I would not get 2 years, let alone 5. If I failed this badly, I would have been gone last year. Like I have said before, the coaches run the program, they are responsible for the success or failure. A 10-9 record (8-9 against Div I) is not a success, not after the previous coach went 10-3. Ok, fire BC. Then we could give the next coach a one year contract, if he doesn't win at least 8, fire him. Then hire another under a one year contract......... If they can't win as many as we wish, every year, fire them! If they can't do it in a year or two, they suck. Recruits and players will understand that it is not them, the program just can't find the right guy for the job. WOW, kind of sounds like a single mom I know that dates a different guy every month and dumps him. I am sure her daughter loves the situation.
  16. There is no good loss, but if you figure in the entire game not just the first half, it was close. There are 4 quarters in football (even though we have yet to play all 4). Had it been on the road, maybe aliens would have landed and blown up the field, killing everyone there. 70 points, aliens...neither happened so not really any kind of an argument for or against anything.
  17. The year and a half he has been proves nothing, but a coach trying to rebuild. FACT: Talent was down we BC came in FACT: When BC came in, NU did not have pass savy players FACT: Players were frustrated with coaching changes leading to poor attitudes FACT: Many new players and old players playing together for the first year FACT: Key Injuries FACT: Lack of experience on OL and D backfield FACT: Definate improvement fundamentally over BC's first year (thus far) Just a few that come to mind. Lets say BC is as terrible as you say he is. What would you do if you were AD? Fire him? How would that benifit the team? Whom would you hire that would do better with the players that he has? Are you absolutely positive his planning sucks, or is it player execution and inexperience? Do you feel BC's planning problems are a simple fix? How would you start off against KU? If with the run, how would you fix the problem if the line blocks as poor as they have been? If with the pass, well same as the run? Well, not run-blocking well cause of inexperience and lack of talent, not pass protecting well cause of inexperience and lack of talent; now what? Did Callahan get his many college positions and pro positions because he is terrible? Could Osborne, the great chess player of a coach that he was, take this team (with its current players) and win 9, 10, or 11? I think people really over simplify problems that BC has had. Many also offer up opinions, from the couch side of the televison, and there is absolutley nothing wrong with that; but, to say a coach is a "LOSER" and to "guarantee" that he incapable of winning more than 6 games in a season is rediculous. Time may tell that he does not have what it takes, but give it time. We all want NU to win football games, but I promise you that we all do not know what is best. Even though most think they do. I remember when so many said Osborne couldn't win the big one, hell, it took him 20 years; and he didn't have limited by scholarships.
  18. We lost a couple, but unlike last year, there is hope. We will keep getting better. GO BIG RED!!!!!
