  1. Yeah, but how would it look for the spring game???
  2. Not sure what the excitement is all about. We have been reading articles similar to this year after year about our last staff. Oh wait, those articles were about sideline behavior.
  3. LOL the sequence of post from 370-374 is about as funny as it gets (with 374 being the icing on the cake) Bet DH will have that much fun when he finally gets to his "home" in Lincoln.
  4. You can say that, however we all know it's isn't true.
  5. Man I feel for you, I hope this negative attitude didn't start way back at post #1 if so the past 6,700+ post must have been rough.
  6. That's ironic. Am I the only one that finds that funny? Actually very funny, however not as funny as the fact that CM got another +1 for the above comment
  7. And coppying the Alabama blue print wouldn't be a winning formula?Um, lol Not for a program in Lincoln Nebraska. No. So you are seriously sticking with the whole "only specific systems work in Lincoln" theory? This is why people don't take you seriously. I have a very hard time taking anyone serious who says the only system (talking football) that will work in Lincoln is Tom Osborne's offense. I always get confused on which one of his offenses they mean. Was it his pro style offense from 69 and through the 70s? Or is it the option heavy offense we ran in the 80s? Maybe its the power run mixed with the option that he ran in the 90s? sorry duplicate
  8. ^ Great post This is a nice summary and should be the end to this thread!!!!
  9. 6-7 is a decline in production over previous years. If you are a DT trying to get to the NFL. The stats of last year were NOT a decline from the previous year. No NFL scout would look at a teams W-L record OVER the stats that would be effected by a DT....
  10. He was 4th team with POB and behind a couple walk ons that saw reps much earlier on.How'd he look? Well, I guess if he's b/u to walk-ons, that pretty much tells the story. The feed cut right as he got in. I too drew the same conclusion, though based on who played before him. Did Ozigbo get some reps? Sounds like Newby and Wilbon stole the show.He appears to be the most complete running back of the 3. I felt he earned the starting job for his performance in the UCLA game. Ground and pound, baby. Yeah....we all know this....but do the people calling the plays? Seems like they figured it out during the UCLA game. However, I suspect Wilbon will have more to say on the matter. Tell me there weren't moments toward the end of the UCLA game where you were yelling at the field/TV (don't know if you were there or not) "What the hell are you thinking?" It's like this coaching staff seems determined to snatch defeat from the claws of victory. Yes they seemed to have finally figured out that with a couple of 240 lb stud running backs running against one of the worst running defenses (perhaps because they were also very small) maybe....just maybe....pounding the rock might be the way to go. But then, there we all were, late in the 4th quarter, holding our collective breath as we saw the play calling seem to go south again. So, I still wonder if the people calling the plays can figure out the fact that Tommie should not be passing 40-50 times a game and the Huskers should be pounding the rock. Riley seems determined to be a .500 coach and he seems determined to find any way possible to do it. Yeah i'm sure he spends most of those 16-18 hour days focusing on being exactly .500
  11. How do you know that? He may have been second string at the start of fall camp and headed for 3rd by kickoff of the first game. There is also a chance that he valued being close to family.
  12. Actually, you should go with the message board poster, because EVERYBODY knows that ANYBODY can win nine games a season at Nebraska, so it was a net loss of three wins. As long as we are playing "Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda", I remind you that the Michigan State game was closer to a loss than any of those other games were closer to a win. It took a dropped interception and a questionable ruling on Reilly's TD route to pull that one out of the fire. Hailmary > MSU
  13. Wow, just found the 4th quarter on BTN. Not sure what was expected of POB, however if you take away his first and last pass, he looked solid. He took a bad sack and had a guy over the middle that was open and decided to throw to him about 5 steps too late. Besides that his passes where all in a place where only one guy could catch them. I think this guy is second string by the end of fall camp. My next thought was watching Bush avoid tackle after tackle, we need to get him on the field. No chance that he can crack the WR chart this year, however could he play HB or TE? Doesn't look like a blocking TE, however I do remember a few years back where we had a quick TE (Reed #25??) and Cotton (sam??) at the same time.
  14. ^ +1 Just as it takes time for young backs to figure out how to be patient and how to find the seam - It takes time to understand where that defender will be coming from and then making the play to block him. Newby is 2 steps ahead in this area. After watching NU football for the past 45+ years - it is hard to get the concept on how important this is for RB's. We used to have guys move up the WR chart based on blocking - now the same is happening for RB. It's a team sport and you got to help your brothers!!!!
  15. Any chance that there is a grad transfer out there that is currently playing for one of the top 5 teams in the country that feels he should be first string instead of some spot down the chart and comes our way. How common is that after spring ball - when players have a feel for where they fit in? I get this feeling that Riley is more then happy with our 4 guys that everybody else is concerned about due to lack of experience, however not sure we could turn down a player that wanted to come here and try to gain some stats before making a run at the NFL next year.
  16. Man, thought the N texas and S texas for NU groups that I have hung with for the past 20 years were big. At this rate 2/3 of the state of Cali will be members of the Californians for NU watch parties by year 2018.....
  17. But, seriously, think where we would be sitting with the 4 guys we are missing who would've, could've, should've been back! All four made decisions to leave with a year or more left. Another year and we would have had 4 DTs getting NFL tries. That is really rare! Don't think KW and GM are playing any downs in the league - I could be surprised, thou.
  18. Until this staff gets a couple games better than .500, anything and everything they think do, or say is going to be subject to debate. Nothing stifles dissent like success, and the lack of success produces a bumper crop of dissent and second guessing. That's not just being a coach, it also goes with being president of the United States, a general, a CEO, a fishing guide, or spouse/parent. Get doused with Gatorade and hoist a trophy and this all disappears. Lose to Illinois and Purdue, human nature kicks in to high gear. Nature of the beast. Since Cavanaugh doesn't believe in rotating people in and out, it is probably a smart move for anybody not going to start to look for another place to play. That's one facet of this new coaching staff which I don't agree on either, since rotating fresh bodies in to wear down the defense worked for that one guy who finally stifled a lot of dissent when he was coaching at Nebraska. Our staff has said on more than one occasion that they would like to rotate in, however they like to do it as units. When they get 2 lines that are close to equal - we will probably see that. There are advantages to having groups of 5 stay together and there are advantages of taking out individuals when they need a break. Which is better, hard to say, I will go with the lead of a staff that was 6-7 (with 5 losses that could have been wins) over a message board poster. If a guy wants meaningful playing time in games and he is second string - he has a lot of incentive to fight for first string. If two guys play 50% of the game - not much reason to fight for first string. Again not saying it is right or wrong - just two different approaches. Players can buy in or move on......
  19. Some of our young DT are going to shine by the beginning of Big Ten play. I feel the leaving of the 2 recent tackles has some to do with this.
  20. Thanks for the summary. I know a lot of us don't expect him to start from day one, however I would also say seeing him was probably important to the viewers on TV. Since that didn't happen it is nice to get your insights!!!
  21. The 46 was based on scoring system that awarded defensive plays. Huh? It was offense against defense. The defense scored by accomplishing various things, like 3 and outs and collecting turnovers. The defense won (actually on that last pick thrown by POB). So they gave the D points for doing those things? I guess it's the "participation" ethos bleeding thru the college game, hmm, weird, and whatev.... Did everyone get a blue ribbon @ game's end? lolwut. It's a practice. I think this should translate into real games, like when we play Oregon, if we, for e.g, get a 3 and out, we get 6 points and the ball. Ok, maybe 3 and out is too much to ask, how about a 6 and out? Tackle for loss is 3 points for us. INT is 7 points and you don't even have to run it back to the endzone, just down it. I like these new rules. Sorry this one is 2nd place

This post deserves a ribbon for the dumbest post of the year!!!
  23. Just gotta create your sock account. Funny he double posted something above and they both got +1'ed. good way to get the count up..... I think we need to ban replying to him
  24. no, i think he has a parakeet. if he does, he won't be dumb enough to bring it.
