That's really good information and is pretty much the only thing I could think of that could almost justify that decision, but we don't know exactly what the thoughts of the kid is maybe he absolutely didn't want the redshirt. Otherwise it still seems like a kick in the nuts to Smothers on the way out by burning his redshirt. Cause I'm hearing he might go to the portal anyways

Yep and there is no plan for a QB going forward maybe it's that no one wants to play for Frost, or it could be Frost is just bull headed about Martinez and will go down with the ship thinking Martinez is his golden national championship QB. Trev Albert's had to have known this when he brought back Frost, starting to look like bringing back Frost was more a financial decision than a football one

Torn ACL is pretty bad. Some people never get all the way back.

Well it actually seemed so fitting that Adrian Martinez heroically plays through injury after injury to only come within two plays of allowing Smothers to keep his redshirt. Seems like a perfect way to sum up Adrian's career, but it was Frost who sent Smothers in there for two plays when he could have taken a knee. Frost and Martinez are one in the same I'll only see Martinez every time I look at Frost going forward.

Earlier in the season maybe cause I could see people thinking 4 maybe even 5 weeks ago we aren't going to make a bowl let's give Smothers experience and let's turn the page now. At this point I don't think anyone is thinking that, it's to late in the season and is now pointless to Burn Smothers redshirt for no reason.

Literally went through the entire thread and no one said play Smothers. Unless I missed something. It's be said only a very few people in other threads at this point people would have rather seen Martinez finish out the year then move on and keep Smothers redshirt. So either burning his redshirt is a bonehead mistake or we have bigger issues.

Yeah Hedley we discussed this once before. Part of the reason I justified Frost staying was the transfer portal and him coaching the way he did cause he could save Smothers redshirt. After today I just can't justify his management anymore. If Smothers isn't ready than why put him in save the redshirt, but this is year two he should be ready to at least be a back up if not a starter meaning now we can't develop qbs. But I don't even see us trying to bring in the next QB.

It's not the breaking point. Its the point that I realized the source of boneheaded mistakes. That's the point of the thread. That and it's things like this that chips away at support for Frost, cause I am not alone on this

I can't believe they burned Smothers red shirt when they could have just taking a couple knees at the end of the first half today. While I understand that you weren't intending on trying to red shirt him you don't throw it away carelessly like that. You don't know what position we might be in 3 years from now that was a ridiculous way to burn a red shirt. I honestly supported Frost until that moment. We have made a lot of bone headed mistakes to lose games since Frost took over. After that bone headed move I now know with exactly why and where it's coming from.

Never haven't done it in 4 years. Down a TD we will see Heisman Martinez. Tied we see bad Martinez it's been the same script for 4 years.

Martinez made a heroic effort to play threw injuries only to get Smothers within two plays of keeping his redshirt. Why does this sound so fitting of Martinez?

As far as I'm concerned Frost leash has got shortened to about one inch. Not that my opinion matters but I'm sure I'm not alone
